The deluxe edition looks pretty nifty. I've read the rules, but haven't actually played it. Looks fun, though -- plenty of opportunities to mess with the other players around the table.

I see that if you preorder this game, it comes with a miniature. Is this a miniature-based game? I'll need to check out the rules and see what this is all about. I love games for the family dinner table and this one looks fun.

I was at the GenCon seminar when they talked about this a couple of days ago and I think that the miniature is meant to be a higher quality replacement of one of the pieces from the game. The game, I believe, is a board game and not miniatures based.

It's only the coolest game ever. (Well...ok...maybe not...)

I've played enough KDL in the last few days to have dreams about the dastardly Doctor. The deluxe version is in fact a non-Cheapass game - it will have a solid board, wooden pieces and wooden chips for the Spite Tokens. The cards will also be of professional card stock, not the thick paper stock so favored by Cheapass Games.

The preorder miniature is rather cool, but it's not required to play the game.

I recommend anyone who likes KDL to purchase the deluxe version - my Cheapass version is going to be my travel version, with the deluxe will be the home model. =)

I can't wait for the game to come out - I'm going to get it for myself for my birthday!

I think we'll all agree, in the end, that I won that thread in the name of truth, justice, and the Golem's Got It way.

Seriously though, what kind of twisted individual tries to kill a little old man?

Hi Vic,

I did pre-order the game, but it was after the published dead line, any chance you can still sneak one if for me? No biggie, but I thought I'd ask :o) Order # 670046

We've extended the deadline for getting the mini—so long as you preorder it the game before it arrives in our warehouse (which we expect to happen in late October), you'll get the mini.

Will Kill Dr. Lucky be available anywhere other than Paizo?

The cost of shipping to Canada, is almost half the price of the game.

I was ready to pre-order 2 copies, but not at 34$ for shipping.
I really want the Dr. Lucky mini, but I don't want to pay 17$ for it either.

Any information is welcome.

You should be able to buy the Titanic version of Kill Doctor Lucky wherever you buy any other Paizo or Cheapass products.

We've also offered the mini as an incentive to distributors for preorders, and the distributors should be passing them on to the retailers, who should be passing them on to you.

In short, pick a retailer, and ask them to preorder the game for you, and make sure they make sure that their distributor is going to get the mini for you.

I'm not sure if this is the place to post game questions/comments, but we had an epic session of KDL, and up to the last game everyone was really enjoying it. What put a damper on the last game was that the spite tokens seemed to create all most too much of a balance and no one could kill the good doctor, we just kept passing spite tokens around to each other. Now eventually one person did amass enough that the group could stop him but by then we had all started to lose interest. Just wondering if you'd run into this at all or if it was just a bit of a fluke. Despite running out of cards to prevent kills the spite tokens kept the game going on forever. I don't want to give the impression that I am complaining, I LOVE the game and I really like the addition of the spite tokens but with 5 players we just ran into a quagmire and wondering if that had come up at all for anyone else.

Hey y'all:

We ran quite a few demos of KDL at GenCon Socal and I can't say we ever ran into this type of quagmire. I can see how it might very rarely happen, but I think what you ran into is a abberrant game and not something you would likely see happen very often.

In our experience, spite tokens generally tend to move the game along faster.

When there were 3 people playing that was the case with us as well, but when we added 2 more and the tokens got spread out about evenly is when we saw an issue arise. It worked itself out, it just took awhile. I appreciate you folks responding to questions.

I've played the game 4 or 5 times and hadn't noticed I was missing cards. A poster on BoardGameGeek made me check and sure enough I am missing cards too! Any thoughts on how to get the missing cards?

I picked this game up over the holidays and have had a lot of fun with it. The rules are simple to learn, and there is a good combination of strategy and luck. I enjoy read the the cheesy descriptions on the failure cards.

It is out of stock. We hope to reprint it later this year sometime, but have no concrete dates. That said, I noticed that there is a copy where the box was slightly crushed that we had set aside. I could have customer service contact you to purchase that if you are interested. I was going to put it up for sale as Non-Mint this next week, but you can buy it if you want!

That game is fun. I shoulda bought a copy at VCON when I was there. On the plus side, I did get to play the game with James Ernest. He cleaned us out pretty good, but I got him back on Enemy Chocalatier!

I'm a grade 4 teacher, and I brought this game to school with me the other day. I tried to teach 10 nine year olds how to play (they played on teams of two). It actually worked (with some supervision). The only real problem was that whenever anyone made a murder attempt, they would all just start to toss their failure cards in the middle instead of going around the table in order. We're still working on that concept, but we've played twice now and they did much better the second time round. Pretty soon, I'm going to be able to leave them to play it without me as the ref/coach. Next I'm going to introduce them to Key Largo, and then maybe Settlers of Catan or Pirate's Cove. Then we'll move up to Arkham Horror (okay maybe not). The kids loved Dr. Lucky! I just hope that I don't get any phone calls from parents about their kid playing a game where you try to murder someone. My principal walked in while we we're playing the first time, and she thought it was Clue (we didn't bother to correct her).

That is such GOOD news. We've starting doing a month of board game reviews on our Geek Parenting blog/website and, of course, the Titanic Games printing of Kill Doctor Lucky topped the list. We felt sad telling everyone "It's an amazing game. Too bad YOU can't have it!"

Before I found this, we told people to stay on the lookout at their favorite game store and they MIGHT get lucky (no pun intended). After I found this thread, I added a comment with the good news.

Thanks for keeping this great game alive.

Those grade 4 students that I taught to play, now know how and have been enjoying the game whenever they have free time. Unfortunately, one of them accidently ripped off a section of the board when he folded it the wrong direction, and the cards are getting worn out much faster than they should be. As a result, I'm also looking to get my hands on a new copy of this game.

A pack of card sleeves would help the cards and can be found either here or at a local gaming shop. The board... that's another story.

---------------------

I received this game for Christmas from my friends almost 2 years ago and I have to say it's pretty awesome. Play time can be 10 minutes to 2 hours, depending on the luck of the cards.

I bought the expansion "And his little dog too!" with Shamrock at GenCon '08 and if you thought spite tokens were tough... wow. I recommend NOT using "Shamrock" in games over 4 people as there is way too much line-of-sight going on. We had one really good shot at taking out the dog(in an 8 player game) and I stopped it... I haven't heard the end of that fr 6 months now, lol!
