I declined the Featured Selections for SFBC this month and was browsing the other reccomendations when what did I see but Northwest of Earth by C.L. Moore And it had the Planet Stories logo on it.

Are you letting SFBC have some of your extra's or will this be printed in their Hardcover format?

I think this will certainly get the Planet Stories name out there which is a good thing.

They have contracted to do a hardcover edition of the book for their members. We're looking at it as a way to get the brand in front of some people who haven't seen it yet.

Is there any way for a nonmember to get a copy?

Don't think so.

Are you guys licensing the entire line?

If you read a lot of Sci-Fi and Fantasy I would encourage you to think about joining SFBC.

Thier Hardback's are sized down from a normal hardback size, probably closer to a Trade paperback. They cost twice as much as a mass market paperback but the tradeoff in quality I find appealing.

I read a lot on my Kindle currently but there is nothing like having a Physical book or series that you love sitting on your bookcase.

You don't have to Buy anything on a regular basis. They send you the card or you can go on their website and decline a month's featured selections so they don't automatically send them to you.

Sure...SFBC is fine...if you already have a Planet Stories subscription.

Yes. First things first, people.

We've not licensed the entire line to them (and we have no plans ever to do so!). Right now this is the only book we've worked with them on. I'm very curious to see how it goes, and I hope it brings a lot more people to Planet Stories.

The books are selling OK enough, but I sure wish they were selling better.

But isn't the Kline book the top seller this week? I don't remember ever seeing a Planet Stories book outsell Paizo's other products, and that seemed pretty impressive.

Does the SFBC often carry classic Sci-fi stories? I’m not too crazy about most modern ones.

Disclaimer: I havn't been a member of the club for a few years so things might have changed.

Usually I would see one-two "Classic" sci-fi items a month in thier bulletin that they send out. When I was a subscriber, their webpage had a larger selection than the bulletin over-all but was still less than 10% classic feel. I always found their exclusive compilations to be their best deals.

I love being a Planet Stories subscriber and I love SFBC.

Most SFBC stuff is newer releases. They have a few compilations of older works but most of the stuff is new fiction.

This is largely a factor of our printer royally screwing up the delivery date on Pathfinder #19. That _should_ be our best seller right now, but it won't be until it actually comes in from the cold. In the meantime, whatever subscription product we most recently filled has a near-lock on the top seller spot, though I'm pleased to see that Monte Cook's Book of Experimental Might has finally clawed its way to the top.

I don't want to give the impression that Planet Stories isn't doing well, but as a line it certainly could do a lot better. We're in the process of figuring out how to make this happen, but in the meantime all of the word of mouth, online reviews, and grassroots publicity you guys can drum up will certainly help.

Free year's subscription to people who get Planet Stories tattoos?
(Great for advertising...)

Good to hear of the additional outlets for PS. The more the merrier, because this line MUST prosper!!

I whole-heartedly agree. I've been preachin' the gospel over on the REH Forum. However, with a blog to write weekly for "The Cimmerian" and all sorts of pesky "real life" stuff, I may not be spreading the word as much as I should. I'm thinking about working up a Brackett or Merritt post for the TC blog. We'll see. :)

That would be great! I love The Cimmerian!

Hi Erik! I'm Deuce Richardson, once just a fan of the "Cimmerian" journal (RIP) and blog, now a TC blogger and still a fan. :) I name-dropped Merritt in my first-ever blog. Brian Murphy name-dropped YOU in his most recent TC blog on Gygax. Hope you enjoy the posts from all four of us TC bloggers in the future.

Best, Deuce
