I'm a noob to exalted, though I have most of the books.

I'm up for playing whatever type of character.
What's allowed? Just Core? just the Manuals of Power?

What is the world like/different form the what's in the books?

Remember when WOTC got sick of pirates and took down all of their PDFs? White Wolf had the core book as a free download for a week or two after that.

I'm doing a Night caste.

Core's allowed, and everything else you need to clear with the GM.

I would prefer to stick to Solars. I plan on having the party know each other when the game begins.

Excellent! My idea is for a Twilight Caste bladesmith, who uses Elemental Empowerment to make basic "enchanted" weapons.

EDIT: If we are going for a Perfect Circle, that would leave Eclipse still unclaimed. That tends to be the bastard child of the castes, though, so I'd be happy to switch to an Eclipse if fray would want a Twilight instead...

Well it's not forbidden. groups tend to have just one of each caste usually though, because they complement each other.

I don't want to make a social guy and have lots of fighting or vice versa.

Since we all know each other, will we have a 'head quarters' or someone who gives us missions? (Like someone in the Celestial Court?)

Will we be hunted as described in the rule book?

I plan about a fifty fifty mix of combat and non-combat. If there is a imbalance it will be leaning toward the non-combat side. Of course how you characters handle things could change the way things happen as well. As far as a headquarters and being hunted, I saw you as more the wandering ronin, trying to avoid capture by the Dragon blooded while helping those in need. Think either Avatar: The Lat Airbender, or the A Team. which ever givesyou a better mental picture.

The styles in Imperfect Lotus tend to be more esoteric and dark than the ones in the original. At least that is how I read it. They are th truely hidden styles, that many in the Martial Arts world don't even know about.

Can anyone learn martial arts?

Does it matter what kind of profession we are?
Will we be assumed to have funds to survive as we are 'on the run'?
Do we need to have a source of income?
I was thinking of being an 'adventurous messenger', if I won't be getting any work since we won't have a 'home office' I can change to be something else.

Well, it's just a ability/group of things a lot like charms, so I couldn't see why you couldn't.

While I'm here, anyone see any major problems/tips for what I've got so far? By the way, the motivation might be changed/reworded, I'm still trying to figure out the right ratio of master criminal to Robin Hood.

The rule book is not organized well for making a character. Sections are not organized to for making a char. Would be nice to have things in the TOC, and in alphabetical order.

Can I take abilities that are not Favored or Caste?
Is there a Max (3) for abilities in char generation?
Is it worth it to take 1 Dot in an ability?

I assume so.

Yes, but you can spend some of your bonus points to increase them further.

Well, Exalts don't take penalties to skills they don't have points in, so only if you want another die in it or take charms based on that ability.

I numbered your questions for ease of answering.

1) Yes

Also an adventuring messanger doesn't have to have a home office, remember that particularly outside of the Blessed Isle, there are a lot of isolated regions. You could carry messages from the village you are in to the village you are travelling to without being part of an organized courier service.

First question, it says it does under Linguistics' description, so yes.

Second, it better be, that's how I got Seven Shadows Evasion.

Ok, I think I have the basics done. I'll post it tonight.
I know I have some blanks on the character sheet that I will need some help with, like the Compassion Flaw stuff, not sure what to do with it.

I would also like some feedback on whether it's a viable character too. (I'd be bummed if I make a walking cardboard box instead of a character.)
