Is the remaing commander blind? If so how many balance checks would I have to take to get in position at M7?

Rall Kirnast,

11550 620 20 avatar

Bumping the MAP
again.

Rall attempts to move through the line of kobold and coup-de-grace one of the kobolds on the other side.

Acrobatics check: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25

The Chronicler,

19 Opener Hanging Plaza 01 A avatar

Bowen would need one balance check. IIRC, a coup de gras is a full round action, not a standard action. The kobolds, however, are no longer unconscious... just stunned and blind (this includes the commander). And it looks like that is wearing off. Stunned creatures takle a penalty to AC but I do not believe they can be coup-de-grased.

That's correct. Coup-de-gras is a full round action, automatic hit, automatic critical.

A stunned creature drops anything it was holding, can't take any actions, takes a -2 penalty to AC, and also loses any Dex bonus to AC. So, basically, stunned kobolds would become unarmed, unable to move or fight, and they become much easier to hit by opponents. But they can't be immediately killed with coup-de-gras, because they aren't totally defenseless.

The Chronicler,

19 Opener Hanging Plaza 01 A avatar

Yeah so in other words we need an attack roll from Rall and an action or two from Bowen.

Bowen Quaid,

Heads 3 avatar

Balance
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12

Bowen moves over the bodies of the kobolds to block the path from the shriekers.

Bowen moves to M7

Rall Kirnast,

11550 620 20 avatar

Rall sees the kobolds starting to come to and attacks the nearest one. "Oh no you don't."

1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20

1d8 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8

Rall would be on the other side of that line as well. There's an entrance at our backs now, isn't there?

Chloe "Clover" Verjust,

Blackgodskiss avatar

Chloe joins Rall in trying to end the lives of as many kobolds as they possibly can before the next ones arrive.

If there's a leader kobold still blinded or stunned, she'll target him first in the hopes of weakening him.

Melee attack with scimitar... 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22
Damage with Arcane Strike... 1d6 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 2 + 1 = 9

Chloe "Clover" Verjust,

Blackgodskiss avatar

Wow. That's a first. Maximum attack roll result and maximum damage roll result. Sweet. Couldn't come at a better time...

Confirm critical threat... 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16
Oooooh! Come on! We need this one to go down! Hopefully, his AC is reduced by all the stunning, blinding, whatever-else...
Damage if necessary...
1d6 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 2 + 1 = 7

Wow. If this hits, it would be Chloe's singular best combat result ever.

The Chronicler,

19 Opener Hanging Plaza 01 A avatar

Bowen moves down to the tunnel entrance where he sees two kobolds on their strange giant toads barrelling up the passage towards him.

Rall charges across (L13), neatly jumping over the sorpses in the way, and whacks one of the kobolds on the head, dropping the creature. Chloe, moves behind Rall (L12) and with a neat spin decapitates the poor, blind, stunned kobold commander in her way.

Arla?

"Quick!" calls Rall to the party, "Grab their spears and set them against a charge."

Rall demonstrates, bracing the end of the spearshaft against any outcropping or crevice in the floor that could support it, point towards what he hopes will be rapidly coming kobolds.

"Bowen, fall back behind the spears when they hop in."

"I saw it in a play once."

If Rall has time, he'll grab a torn shirt or anything other fabric he can find to throw over the spear head and make it less visible.

The Chronicler,

Arla?

Arla Kalandras,

Iggwilv Summons Grazzt Fin 1 avatar

Apologies, bit of a crazy weekend..
At Rall's call, Arla turns and dashes towards the tunnel entrance to back them up. Already having a spear of her own, she sets the butt of it against the rock, holding it angled and as steady as she can towards the charging toads.

Meanwhile, Ash, assists Chloe in attempting to kill the disorientated kobolds still remaining

Ash's attack & damage

Rall was planning on setting the spear wall up behind the line of kobolds in the hopes of further complicating things for anyone trying to get to them but Arla's idea might be better. Thoughts?

The Chronicler,

19 Opener Hanging Plaza 01 A avatar

The kobolds are using short spears. Which, as they are sized for kobolds, means they are about two feet long. A perfect throwing or melee weapon for a kobold but not so useful for a brash young deputy wanting to set up a spear wall. Rall realizes this as soon as he braces the little thing and realizes he's at an ackward angle.

Arla moves up next to Bowen and sets her spear just as one of the mounted kobolds rushes at her, attempting an overrun atop its toad-thing.

Arla gets an attack (at either the rider or the mount) and can consider her spear braced. Ash meanwhile harries the remaining blind and stunned kobold but does not manage to get a grip on it.

Arla needs to attack. The kobolds get their attack. And then the new round will begin.

Arla Kalandras,

Iggwilv Summons Grazzt Fin 1 avatar

Steeling herself against the impact that she knows is about to come, Arla tries her best to keep her spear steady, aiming the tip of it towards the toad creature.

Braced attack and damage on the toad
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19

2d8 + 2 ⇒ (7, 1) + 2 = 10

The Chronicler,

Arla's spear slams into the fanged toad as it shoots towards her.

Overrun attempt: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7

The Chronicler,

19 Opener Hanging Plaza 01 A avatar

Arla's spear thrust stops the toad's charge and it fails to move past her as the blade of the weapon digs deep into its flesh.

The second toad is forced to go up.

Up along the wall that is.

Ride Check: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6

This confuses the kobold's mount who stops on the wall behind the speared toad thing.

Rall and Chloe hear the sound of movement faintly down the other tunnel. It sounds like additional reinforcements will be along shortly.

Anyone moving through, or stopping in, any of the following squares must make an acrobatics check (DC 10) or lose their standard action (i.e. move action only on a fail) due to the bodies and the blood: I10, J10, J11, K10, K11, L13. The blood is slowly seeping into the ground and will be less slick shortly.

Rall leaves his spear tucked in amongst one of the kobold's corpses (hoping to make the kobolds more difficult to cross) and slips over to the entrance of the other tunnel.

Stealth check to surprise reinforcements:1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22

Chloe "Clover" Verjust,

With forces moving toward them from both sides, Chloe grows even more worried. She leaves Ash to finish the last reeling kobold and hurries to the aid of Bowen and Arla before the toad-riders overrun them. Seeing the one toad caught on the druid's spear, she hurries forward and strikes with her scimitar.

Move action away from the carnage (thus, no Acrobatics check needed?).
Melee attack with scimitar... 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22
Damage with Arcane Strike, if applicable... 1d6 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 2 + 1 = 4

Chloe "Clover" Verjust,

Wow! When the heck did Chloe finally start living up to her battle sorceress ways? I've never had back-to-back natural 20's from her.

Confirm critical threat (please?)... 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21
Extra damage, if applicable... 1d6 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 2 + 1 = 7

EDIT: AWESOME!

The Chronicler,

19 Opener Hanging Plaza 01 A avatar

If Arla or Bowen finishes off the Slurk before Chloe gets there, I will assume that Chloe attacks the kobold. Bowen and Arla are actually blocking Chloe's way but as both go before her in initiative order, I assume one of them can move back and make room for her.

Understood. If necessary, we can say she switched to one of the kobold javelins and threw it at the slurk on the wall, as well. I'm open to however you want to handle it.

The Chronicler,

Bowen moves to L7. Sorry for lack of posting midterm time for me.

The Chronicler,

19 Opener Hanging Plaza 01 A avatar

Bowen does indeed finish off the skewered toad monstrosity.

Chloe "Clover" Verjust,

Blackgodskiss avatar

So Chloe's attack goes against the rider. Or, if you want me to throw one of the kobold javelins at the other toad, that's fine, as well. I don't have a good sense of positioning and I'm terrible with deciphering maps and movement anyway. So go with what makes the most sense to you.

With Bowen moving back, the kobold is left atop a dead mount and open for Chloe to move in and attack. Of course, if Arla kills the kobold, Chloe could just charge on in at the second toad. Your call.

Chloe "Clover" Verjust,

Blackgodskiss avatar

Okay. Let's see what Arla/Mishi does and go from there.

The Chronicler,

Arla attacks the kobold rider.

Melee attack with spear... 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19
Damage, if applicable... 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8

EDIT: If that slays the kobold rider, go ahead and have Chloe charge the other toad with her previous attack.

The Chronicler,

19 Opener Hanging Plaza 01 A avatar

Sorry for the delay in getting to this thread. Its been a long week.

Arla stabs the kobold and then Chloe moves forward and ends its life.

The other kobold, in the meantime, urges his mount forward to attack Chloe. He barely manages to hold on and does not himself attack but the giant fangs of the toad slice at Chloe.

Ride Check: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7

Slurk Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19

Bowen, Arla, Chloe?

Chloe "Clover" Verjust,

With her additional injury, Chloe fears she may have gotten in over her head by charging the last rider. She calls for help from her comrades and launches another attack at the toad.

Chloe's glowing scimitar neatly slices into the toad thing's neck and it convulses and collapses onto its belly, the fight completely taken out of it.

Bowen Quaid,

Heads 3 avatar

Since I can't get in the south corridor to help with the riding kobold I'll ready an attack on anything Rall doesn't hit.

The Chronicler,

19 Opener Hanging Plaza 01 A avatar

We may need someone to post an attack for Arla again.

Chloe "Clover" Verjust,

Blackgodskiss avatar

Arla attacks the remaining kobold rider with her spear, while also calling Ash to her aid. As she strikes, the dog charges and leaps to defend his mistress.

Arla's melee attack with spear... 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20
Arla's damage, if applicable... 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

Ash's attack with charging bonus... 1d20 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 3 + 2 = 15
Ash's damage, if applicable... 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5

The Chronicler,

19 Opener Hanging Plaza 01 A avatar

Arla hurts the kobold which in turn tries to strike at her.

Ride check: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11

The dying mount however, prevents this.

Two more kobold riders on toads leap into the room past where Rall is hiding.

Rall may make an attack as can Bowen.

Rall Kirnast,

11550 620 20 avatar

Rall closes his eyes as he stabs at the kobold passing closest to his hiding spot.

1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
