The notice just arrived in my email that this coming years' OwlCon is scheduled for February 19-21,2010, at Rice University in Houston, TX. HoustonDerek and I will be signing up to run some Pathfinder Siciety scenarios, and would like for anyone else interested in running some to let us know.
I'm interested. We'll have to talk about it on Sunday.
@Daigle, how would you feel about running a scenario or two? I know this is far in the future, but it never hurts to begin to generate some interest. HoustonDerek had a couple of ideas he wanted to talk with you about.
While I enjoyed just hanging out with you guys last year and watching, I'd certainly like to involve myself more this time around, so, yeah, that sounds good. We can work out the details between now and then. Y'all know where to find me.
I'm just bumping this to let folks know that I will be attending OwlCon and will be running at least a session or two. I wonder how many folks from this side of the internet are interested in attending OwlCon and playing some Pathfinder? It'd be good to get the ball rolling now to make plans for how many tables are needed, and it'd be really awesome if there was a big Pathfinder attendance there. I'm going to try and drag as many crew as possible from my regular home game, and I know the Houston crew is going to have a nice presence, but what about you other Austin, San Antonio and DFW guys?
As it stands right now, there are 6 slots set up for Pathfinder Scenarios. If anyone wants to run additional slots they need to sign up soon, like immediately. The already scheduled slots are Fri, 2-19-10 @ 8 pm, Sat, 2-20-10 @ 10 am, 3 pm, and 8 pm, and Sunday, 2-21-10 at 10 am, and 3 pm. Preregistration begins on Dec 18, 2009.
If we get more folks signing up than already designated, what are the chances we can get more tables? (I'm aiming high and being hopeful.)
I also talked to Derek a little bit the other night and had some advice for you guys organizing the Pathfinder tables. Talk to him and make sure he carries it out. Feel free to email me at any time if you need to work things out, and think I can help. I talked to my crew here and they seemed interested, but I didn't get any confirmations from them. I'll keep pecking at them and bugging them until I get a solid yes or no.
It'd be fun to have a whole crowd bloodthirsty for some Pathfinder games, and we have the time to draw them in before February.
It'd be cool if we could entice some of our Dallas-Metroplex crew and our San Antonio crew to make the journey. Hell, I'm rolling in from Austin with at least half of my regular weekly group.
Did you register as a GM? Or did you want one of my slots to run a game? I can play just as easily as GM. It would be awesome to have you be the GM for me.
AD, I sent you the schedule of Pathfinder slots for OwlCon earlier today. I hope that helps you out. I also sent Josh the schedule with a reminder about Asgard Games.
The preregistration for OwlCon begins on Friday, December 18, 2009. Anyone interested in attending should register as soon as possible, because that will help determine how many tables we get to run scenarios on. Initially they are only allowing one table per time slot. They base their assignment of tables on how many people sign up for a given slot. I have posted info in the Society events page here. Hope to see many of you in February 2010.
I just received notice that 4 additional time slots have been opened up for Pathfinder Society Organized Play at OwCon. Please sign up to GM a game if you are interested.
Here is the schedule for scenarios for OwlCon 2010.

#14: The Many Fortunes of Grandmaster Torch 4 - 6 players
Sat1500 (6) Intermediate
Minimum age: You must be 13 years of age or older to participate in this event.
When four statues of unspeakable power were found in a tomb in Osirion and then stolen, the Pathfinder Society assumed they were gone forever. When they appeared again in the illicit inventory of a Qadiran smuggler in the massive trade city of Sedeq, the Society wasted little time dispatching you there to recover them. Finding the smuggler dead and a familiar face from Absalom responsible, your task quickly becomes a race to retrieve the statues before their brutal power can be unleashed on the citizens of the Satrap. Can you find the statues in time or will Sedeq be swallowed in a plague like none Golarion has ever seen?
Pathfinder Lugizar Trantos recently returned from the Mwangi Expanse with haunted eyes and a pack full of strange idols. Absalom's famed Blakros Museum purchased his pieces and Lugizar vanished. The strange monkey idols he pulled from the misty jungles of Mwangi carry with them a fell curse, and now their power has laid claim to the museum. Can the Pathfinder Society uncover the source of the curse in time, or will the Blackros Museum be forever lost to the mists of Mwangi?
I only found out about OwlCon last evening. Too short of a notice to get approval from "She Who Must Be Obeyed". :( Hopefully next year I can make the trek from Alpine.
Is there anything else during the year worth going to in the area?
Our particular group meets at Asgard Games on Kirby in Houston every Sunday from 1 pm to 5 pm. Our schedule of gaming is as follows:
1st Sunday of the month is a campaign arc of modules based in Darkmoon Vale;
last Sunday of each month is our Pathfinder Society Game Day;
the middle Sunday's are currently set in the Second Darkness AP.
February's schedule is a little bit warped due to OwlCon happening on the weekend of Feb 19-21, 2010. You could still come and sign up for the games on the days you can attend. There is always a chance that someone that signed up would not show up. If you need more info the website is OwlCon.com. You will find a listing of what games are scheduled for all tabletop gaming.
I’ve got a game at 8pm on Saturday that’s already got 4 players pre-registered, so I’ve got two more seats. I’m going to show up Saturday noonish, and if things go well this week, I hope to find a spot to playtest something I’ve been working on before I run my scenario. I also plan on bringing a couple of guys from my regular group, so if tables need more players or if we need impromptu GMs, everything’s covered. Also, I’m going to bring a few other games (Kill Doctor Lucky, Ticket To Ride, maybe Dominoes for cash or Mumbletypeg for the brave), so if anyone shows up and doesn’t have something PFS to play, there’ll at least be something to play. This may also come in handy for folks showing up with wives or kids that aren’t into RPGs.
I hope to see folks there! If this thread made you show up, let any of the volunteers know. It feels good to hear responses to your rallying. ;)
Didn't mean to sound so angry(?). Just wanted to let you know that we have 2 tables that are needing players out of 8 tables. All but 2 of those valid tables are full with 6 players signed up.
You didn't sound angry in the slightest. I really appreciate all the work you've done to set this up and get the word out, in addition to keeping me up to date on things throughout all of this. I look forward to seeing you guys this weekend.
Silverhair is our driving force. He really went out of his way to recruit GMs for OwlCon PFS events and it's looking like a great weekend. I'm more than a little nervous being the first time I have run anything for complete strangers, but I'm looking forward to it.
I'm a little nervous myself. I've been gaming with the same crew for over 15 years, and despite going to conventions, I rarely play, much less run games. At least half of my table is folks I know.
Adam, I believe I signed up for your game. I cannot be sure, you see I've slept since then.
Also, I do not have a 7th level PC so I will need a Pregen if you have any.
@ Wolfthulhu, I too hope it is a good weekend for us and the PFS. We were there the first time last year with 4 sessions. This year we have 9 sessions. That is quite a jump in my opinion.
This is on Sunday the last day of the Con. So far my concerns of not having enough players for the 9 slots we had scheduled turned out to be unfounded. It so happens that we had more players than we had slots. We were able to create at least two unscheduled tables during the Con. Many times we had to turn people away because we could not allow more than 7 players per scenario. Hopefully, we can get more GM's for next year and get time for 10+ tables for Pathfinder.
Yep. More GMs next year are totally needed. It was nuts when my table went from 6 to 8 to 12. It was awesome that Derek split off and started another table on the fly. Next year is going to be off the hook.
Edit: Also, thanks to James (I think that's his name) for co-GMing with
me. Not having to mess with math was awesome and really let me just tell a story.

Yeah, it was great to meet you, Adam! I was one of the legal players at your game! hehe! Another 2-3 extra games split off today - I played in one of those impromptu games this afternoon. so while 9 events were planned at Owl Con for Pathfinder, I think we ended up with somewhere between 12-15!
This was my first con, and my first organized play experience. I plan to assist with DMing duties next year. :)
I think the final unofficial count was 13 games played over the course of three days. Derek's contact said that out of 600 +/- attendants at OwlCon 60-70 of them played or expressed an interest in Pathfinder. That's 10% of the recorded attendance. The suggestion was made of giving us a larger room next year. We will just have to wait and see what happens when it gets to be time to begin planning for next year. Thank you all for attending and playing. It was tiring, but fun.
Thanks again for organizing things for us SH2008. Between running my sessions, playing a little and running around the Con, I am completely wiped out. I can only imagine how thin you're running.
One of the players in my game Saturday night said that at least two of his friends didn't come because there weren't enough sessions for them to play 4 or 5 PFS events. I think it would be great if we could get together enough GMs for 15 - 20 sessions next year. Yeah, I know that's ambitious. What can I say? I'm the optimistic type.
And it was great to meet you Adam. Next year don't schedule your event in my time slot! :-D
Jess, it was great meeting you as well, and as I said a number of times, you were an asset to have at the table. Thanks for that. :)
Silverhair, again, thank you for organizing everything. This year was awesome and I’m certain next year will be even bigger.
Rob, it was definitely cool meeting you and putting a face with the name. I’m sure next year we’ll have more options to not double up and miss each other’s games.
