This may be a little soon, but I was wondering whether Paizo will have a Pathfinder Society presence at GenConOz in July this year?

If not - would it be alright if I try and organise a gathering at the event? I so very excited about these changes that have been made in the last few days, and I know there must be more Aussies excited then just myself and my gaming group. I'd love to get a meet up happening so that we can play test the new rule sets.

I'd definitely play...
But then I'm Manda's husband. I have a feeling I might get hit with a couch ban if I don't. :D

You can add myself and my group to the list of excitied Aussies. Don't know if we can make it up for GenCon Oz (we are in Adelaide) but this would certainly help sway my decision.

Cheers, Chris.

Me too, me too...I have been throwing going to Gencon Oz up in the air (I'm in Sydney). This would be the clincher.

On a more serious note, it would be good for Paizo to have some sort of Presence there for those people who aren't as net savvy as everyone here.

Ditto, I was about to give up on D&D until Paizo revitalized it with their Pathfinder products.

"Hey Paizo, come to Gen Con Oz, I swear we'll throw another cliche on the barbie for ya mates."

Awesome - that's at least a couple of us.

I was starting to think that I wouldn't be making the trip to GenConOz - it's not as bad as Adelaide, but rural NSW is still a pain - but Paizo coming or having a Pathfinder Event/Meeting would make the convention worth it.

"Come to GenCon Paizo, we've got Drop Bears!"

I personally would LOVE to head to Gencon OZ. If Josh is at all interested, I'd be all for heading to the Gaming Outback and running some fun events for you all. Dunno if its feasible, but if it is, count this Logue in.

I would be personally very excited, Nicolas... please, let us know if there's anything we can do to help.

I feel a road trip coming up...

Don't blame you dude, but do you have any idea what the ROI on that would look like. Maybe they Paizo could ship you bulk freight?

I really want to support Gen Con OZ and will do so fully (mostly through our PFS volunteer network) in 2009. For 2008, we *might* be able to do some preview type events down there depending on how our volunteer pool looks. Actually sending Paizo employees down there to run these events is a bit of a long shot for 2008. :-/

Gen Con Indy 2008 will see us launch Season 0 for Pathfinder Society. We have to make sure all of our organizational ducks are in a row before we can get ahead of ourselves and run PFS events at a show before PFS really even launches. Season 0 will represent our playtest year for org play.

I'm sure Nick and I can come up with some type of PFS support at Gen Con OZ for 2008. It may look more like the Drow Ascension event than the scenarios ...

The short answer is: maybe. Sorry I can't be more specific.

Thanks for the replies so far.

If Paizo can't come perhaps this might work;

I was thinking of less of an organised game (in the style of what was to come for Gen Con Indy), but more of just being able to host an organised meeting of Australian players interested in the new rules sets and Pathfinder in general. In corporate speak 'a networking event'.

We could have a bit of a forum on the rules so far, get together as a group (or as several/lots of small groups) to playtest sections and have a laugh about the stupid things that our players (or ourselves) have done in the modules so far. If a DM wants, he can even host a game with the new rules, it won't be official but it would be building the society over in downunder.

Manda,

I think that sounds like a fantastic idea!

*glowing inside - praise is great*

Okay, the first Australian Pathfinder Society meeting is booked in for the 4th of July at 10am for 3 hours - now I just have to wait and see if it's approved...

So, what exactly would people like to see happen at the meeting?

Would you enjoy organised play testing 'rounds'? (kind of like speed dating but with RPG)

We could set up tables so that there are 5 people to a table - one DM, four players - a lot of pre-generated characters and scenarios that would test certain sections of the game mechanics. You would have maybe 1/2 an hour to play and test this section of the mechanic, 10 minutes to write notes on what you thought, and then swap to another table. It would give everyone a chance to chat, mingle and play. We could play 3 mini sessions and then have an hour to chat and talk about the changes etc.

Sorry, flying by the seat of my pants right now, so let me know if this sounds terrible...

I am really psyched about this. I too am probably unable to make it to GenCon Oz (live in Newcastle), but I am really gonna push my play group to shave a serious read over the rules and give me their thoughts. We will get around to playtesting, but for the forseeable future we are locked into a FR Campaign. First thing on the list after that is RotRL though (I have been talking it up to no end). I think we will be more likely to begin playtesting in the second round (Beta Playtest). Can't wait to get that Rulebook in Hard Copy! =)

Troll be going as Brisbane is only a 9 Hr drive from Townsville and I'll be bring Troll Jnr with me.
If there is any Pathfinder activies, offical or unofficial, then we will be sure to give them a good poke.

The Troll

1) Bumping to see if anyone else bites.

2) Hi Joshua, is there any more info on what we can/will be doing/running at GenConOz? Manda and I are still on target to get there, and we'd like to be helpful.

Nick Logue starts for us officially on Monday and we're all at the GAMA Trade Show next week. We hope to begin releasing loads of PFS information by month-end.

Just letting you guys know, that as much as I would like to meet up with some fellow Paizoians and talk the talk, I won't be going to Gencon Oz. Too much other stuff happening in my life at the moment.

Have fun!!

A 9 hr drive from Townsville? How fast do you drive?

But to the topic at hand, I live in Brisbane so will definitely be getting along to Gencon, be keen to see what is on the go from Paizo.

I bought the plane tickets this morning for myself and the Mrs. Baby-sitters are lined up. Good to go!

Unfortunately guys, Manda will be unable to attend. I will still be coming, though.

However, we won't be doing a Pathfinder 'event' there... obviously the Paizo guys have been run off their feet doing everything fantastic they do (and getting ready for GenCon Indy), but we haven't had the time to plan an event with them.

If I see anyone there, I'll still be spruiking Pathfinder RPG enthusiastically, but I will be a little busy attending other stuff myself (including running a game with Salvatore Conti on Thursday morning) [/plug].

...By the way, there were a few dramas negotiating even getting to GCO. First, one of our return flights was cancelled, then our accomodation (just this week, can you believe it? And because we have the nerve to not have passports, they won't take us... fun.). I'm glad I'm going, I just wish the check DC was lower.

I'm running an OD&D game Saturday so hopefully I'll get to see some sort of Paizo-related activity going on somewhere.

Hey guys. I won’t be going to Gen Con Oz unfortunately - seriously, can they do 2009 in Syndey! ;-)

Anyway … I’m interested in PFS, but my real-life gaming schedule tends to be … slow. My current group meets once a month and at this stage they have no real desire to break away from our long-running campaign to play Pathfinder… SO, I’m wondering if anyone else in the Sydney area is planning to join the PFS, run games etc. And whether playing one session a month (or less) is feasible?

Hey Mothman,

My real-life games have been getting kinda scarce as well. In addition, my "local" group is down in the 'Gong, so the travel is killing me. I wouldn't mind a PFS game sometime. Where are you based? - I'm up in Thornleigh.

Andoran (Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, Adventure Path Subscriber)

Thornleigh’s up near Hornsby right? Wow, from there to Wollongong is definitely a long commute for a game. I thought I was bad, travelling from Leichhardt to Campbelltown for my local game. I’m looking at an hour + drive, how long would yours take? 2 or 3 hours each way?

Yeah, so I’m in Leichhardt, inner west area.

Yeah, up near Hornsby. I just M7 it now and go all the way around - about 1.5 hours each way, but still annoying after a 10 hour gaming session.

My missus used to live on Allen St, just off Norton when I was at Uni, so I know the area. Nice.

Huh. I live just off Norton ... on Allen Street. Small world.

I'd forgotten about the M7, wow, that's a lot faster. I've only had occasion to use it once, when I had to go out to Norwest Business Park, and that was only for a short stretch.

Andoran (Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, Adventure Path Subscriber)

Dementrius, are you planning to go to SydCon? I started a thread about it here.
