Table 11.2 Question:

Okay, I don't completely get this XX/YY thing.

Assume the PC has 40 MAX PA: "YY."

In his history of Scenarios he's had to spend 2 PA for a Neutralize Poison, 2 for two Lesser Restorations, 2 for a 750gp potion and 1 for a Remove Curse: 7 PAs spent.

His XX is 33 and his YY is 40.

So now he's in Absalom between Scenarios, doing his day job or something outside of play, and he wants to buy a Ring of Evasion for 25,000gp. It's never been on any of his Scenario Chronicles but he's got enough money and PA to be able to afford it.

So he buys it, informing the DM at the end of a Scenario (or the beginning of the next Scenario?) that he's buying it and records it on his Chronicle for items purchased.

My question is how much XX does that cost?!

It seems that this kind of purchase either doesn't cost any PA(XX) or, god forbid, a PC could never purchase an item that he doesn't find in an adventure.

Your former assumption is correct. If the PC has enough PA to afford the item, that's the end of the story. It doesn't decrease PA when you purchase an item with your earned gold.

Ok, that had me scrathing my head as well. If possible in FAQ or the next guide, if that could be better spelled out, that would be a Godsend.

Thanks Doug,

But how does that seem right? "Fix your Condition" potions cost you PA but a Holy Longsword doesn't?!

'edritch knight' should be 'eldritch knight'?

Sure enough. Good catch!

This language is much, much clearer in 2.2 and includes the language we developed for the Faction Guide.

As for "purchasing boons" there aren't any you can purchase right now. I'm leaving the door open for that.

Ch.6 Level Cap Question:

The text wrote:
"level-capped characters may be retired."

I have a real concern with the "may be" wording.

Is the retiring of a Pathfinder Society PC a choice that Paizo makes or a choice that the Player makes?

If my PC ever gets to 12th level, while I may choose to start another PC or more, I want to always be able to run my 12th level PC. Even if he can, at some point, never earn more PA, in addition to XP, I should be able to play him.

You're paying accumulated gold for the latter. You pay nothing (except PA) for the former.

Ah, now I understand. Thanks, Jim.

You may get a boon on a chronicles sheet that costs PA down the road, I think Josh was just covering his backside

Redirected my question here for an official response.

Always Available Items
In addition to any items listed on your current or two
previous chronicles, you may always purchase the
following items or equipment so long as you’re in an
appropriately-sized settlement (see above):
All basic armor, gear, items, and weapons from Chapter
6 (the equipment chapter) of the Pathfinder RPG Core
Rulebook. This does not include dragonhide under the
“special materials” section of that chapter on page 154,
but it does include the other special materials such as
alchemical silver and cold iron.

I have several players in PFS who have played thru at least half the scenarios out for play and "DRAGONHIDE" has yet to rear it's ugly head in any chronicle or even hint at purchasing it.

It drastically leaves druids with no thought towards higher AC as it is not available; any chance of it showing up in a scenario or even relaxing the "DRAGONHIDE" restriction as I think "ADAMANTINE" and "MITHRAL" are more troublesome to the enemy than "DRAGONHIDE".

Can't you still purchase it like you could purchase any other not-always-available item, assuming you have enough prestige?

Dragonhide is not on the "always available" list, true, meaning you cannot purchase it or anything made from it with gold. But I have not seen anywhere where it says you cannot use prestige to get it. The remaining question is whether there is even anything that can be made from dragonhide that has a cost as low as 750gp.

Always Available items are always available regardless of PA.

The rest of the items, assuming they are legal from a legal for play source and are themselves legal for play, are governed by your total prestige award. Dragonhide falls into this category and is governed by your total prestige award.

He's actually not talking about purchasing it with prestige, he's talking about having access to it because of his total prestige.

I think that is the part that is confusing people. Dragonhide is only mentioned in the Guide once and only in the Always Available section:

"All basic armor, gear, items, and weapons from Chapter
6 (the equipment chapter) of the Pathfinder RPG Core
Rulebook. This does not include dragonhide under the
“special materials” section of that chapter on page 154,

Since it is not mentioned again anywhere in the guide, this makes it sound like it is not available for purchase at all.

I can see why folks might think that, but it's only noted as not being part of the "always available" items and isn't noted anywhere as being "not legal for play."

Just a thought, since with just 4 PA I can purchase Dragonhide hide armor (15+150) x 2 = 330, and with 9 PA I can purchase Dragonhide Half-Plate (600+150) x 2 = 1500, is it worth the extra confusion to have this one item excluded from the "always available" list?

On a related note, if mithril is an always available item, as well as +1 enchantment, doesn't that mean a suit of +1 mithril armor can be purchased as soon as you have the coin, regardless of the PA? If so, then why is it often listed as a chronicle award?

Spoiler:

Voice in the Void (tier 6-7) +1 mithril shirt
Blood at Dralkard Manor (tier 3-4) mithril shirt
The Prince of Augustana (tier 4-5) +1 mithril shirt
Perils of the Pirate Pact (tier 1-2) mithril shirt (tier 3-4) add +1
or for that matter, the +1 half-plate from Murder on the Silken Caravan

Spoiler:
Explosive runes.

Voice in the Void is an error.
When Blood at Dralkard Manor was published, mithril wasn't always available. Same for Prince and Perils.
And Silken Caravan is an error.

Hi guys,

Is the Summoner as described in the Final Class Playtest pdf still correct for PFS play, or have their been any changes since that document was released that I need to incorporate to make a PFS legal character?

Thanks

Is there a sword cane listed in any of the legal for play resources? I can't think of one off top of my head. If I can't find one, I think I may just buy a rapier and a club (for the cane part) and call it a wash.

Grand Lodge aka Herald *** (Venture-Captain, Florida—Tampa)

No sword cane yet. After the Equipment Guide comes out who knows.

It's good as is. Though it will change with the final release.
