I've heard conflicting info on whether or not year zero characters are going to convert to year 1 or not. Does anyone know if there been an official call on this?
We're only 2 months out of GenCon at this point.
Thanks!

The official statement has always been that Year 0 characters will be converted. Most recent statements I can find are December 2008:
Joshua J. Frost wrote:
There will not be a reboot of the entire system. Negating a full year of play would do more to hurt our system then help it. New players coming into PFS with PRPG next August can also run any of the season 0 scenarios using the PRPG rules. The design goal of backward compatibility should make it relatively easy to run season 0 scenarios under the new rule set.

I believe that the exact nature of the amnesty period and conversion process is still pending.

more specific answer...
Yes they are converting. Joshua will be releasing a short conversion sheet to help with the conversion. I am unsure when that will be released, but I know it will be available for GenCon, and most likely available to GMs for GenCon before the convention.
If you are going to GenCon the first slot on Thursday is set aside for helping everyone convert their characters to the new rules. I will be one of the GMs helping.

What about changing factions for the year 0 characters? Does it have to be done prior to GenCon? Will the official rules be ready by then?

There are already official rules on that.
Page 6 of the Society rules..
Once this choice is made, it cannot be changed until the end of
Season 0 (after next year’s Origins in June of 2009)
And Page 13
Every season ends in June at the Origins Game Fair, and July is a “bridge” month between seasons. In the month of July (and only in the month of July,) you have the option to change factions if you so desire.
Though there are consequences. Which are listed on page 13.

Well, this year is kind of weird in that the new official rules won't be out until August. So I have to make my decision to change before I get to look them over. I may just abandon the character and start fresh in Season 1 anyways. Or, is it OK to have more than one active character and support more than one faction?

I have two active characters working for two different factions. A player may still only play a scenario once. I have not yet played two more characters but have the names up in the reporting system for them already.
Just make sure you record your correct character number or the wrong character might get credit. PFS#-Char# is the formula. If add yourself to the database then the computer will fill in the formula for you.

I'm pretty sure you lose your free faction feat and DON'T get to replace it with a free faction feat from your new faction. And I think you lose all your prestige points.

So far the only people with higher character numbers (xxxx-2, xxxx-3, etc.) had been from character deaths. If it's OK to have different faction characters, then I will go this route. The first character was more appropriate for Qadira, but I have a new character concept that works best for Osirion.
Thanks.

Each character can use a different faction at character generation.

When we convert can we use the Pathfinder beta rules prior to GenCon Indy?

Mike,
I can't answer definitively for Josh, but the short answer is, not for official PFS characters. (For your home campaign, do as you please.)
Before Gen-Con, use D&D 3.5. At Gen-Con and afterwards, use the final Pathfinder rules. (The Beta playtest rules were exactly that, an intermediate set of rules intended to invoke player feedback and discussion.)

No. The Beta rules and the final rules are not the same. While the conversion guidelines will be included in v2.0 of the guidebook which will release before the final rules, I'd strongly urge everyone to wait until they have the final rules before creating their PRPG character.
