Gen Con 2009 questions

Hello all!

I am the DM of our group of players, and have never ran nor played in Pathfinder Organized Play scenarios. I have read the guide and have a couple of the adventures, just never gotten everyone else on board. This year, I and most of my regular group will be attending our first Gen Con (their first con of any kind, my first Gen Con) and I have several questions.

First of all, are scenario numbers 23, 24, 29 and 30 using the D&D 3.5ed or Pathfinder RPG rules? I've signed up for the Thursday morning PRPG Conversion and Creation seminar, will I be able to make my Society character there that morning and then use him in the 1PM slot immediately after? Or should I make and register the character online before then Con and try to "update" him to Pathfinder?

Since I've signed up for 4 events, would a new character be updated fast enough to level up between my morning session (3rd xp point gained) and an afternoon game?

Thirdly, can one play a neutral cleric of an evil deity, so long as they are only one spot away in alignment? For example, could you play a Lawful Neutral cleric of Asmodeus? What about channel energy? Can neutral clerics of evil deities (if they are allowed) channel negative energy?

I had more questions as I drifted off to sleep last night, if my morning coffee returns them to my waking mind, I'll be sure to come back to this thread and ask them anew. Thanks!

The GenCon scenarios use 3.5 rules.

You can use a character right after creation, just make sure he is registered after. Actually, there is no reason to not make and register a character now, as it is 3.5. Make sure to download the Guide to Organized Play for creation rules.

You can level after your 3 sessions. You don't need to input all of your character stats to the website, just have your character registered.

Can't remember the answeres for the cleric questions right now.

BE AWARE: when you create a PFS character, they are 1st level. Some of the scenarios at GenCon are not for 1st or 2nd level characters.

The Gen Con scenarios use the Pathfinder RPG rules. Gen Con launches "Season 1" of PRPG (season 0 was our first year and our playtest year).

And, yes, your non-evil character can worship an evil deity so long as they're only one alignment step from the deity. IE, a LE deity could be worshiped by a LN PC.

Ok, but what about Channeling Energy? What kind of energy does a neutral cleric of an evil deity channel? I'm assuming the only choice is negative.

A good bit has changed for clerics in PRPG, and I'm weighing my options on playing one for Society play. That and I need to pick out a figure and get him painted asap!

Ok, now that I've had a chance to peruse the Beta, it's pretty clear to me that clerics of evil gods always channel negative energy. Hmmm. I'll have to ponder this further...

And that's correct for the final rules as well.

Ok, so if I wait until Thursday morning at the 8AM seminar to make my pathfinder society character, will I be able to register him and use him by 1PM that afternoon? Will copies of the Pathfinder Rulebook be available for sale at the seminar, or just in the dealer room?

Question 1: You can register the Character After the Con.

you can do this 2 ways.

Register for the Society now to get you society number and the first character you make will be that society number-1

for example My rogue Gellius Ratarion is # 1619-1 my Bard Alexite Pindleloric is # 1619-2

Just make sure you have your number on you when you come to the con. and put that number on the chronicle sheet.

Or you can wait until the con and they will have numbers to hand out and once again your character will be the number - plus character number.

either way once you get access to the Internet you can add the character to the society.

Question 2: just at the dealers room, but the GMs will have copies to help make your character.

Ok, I think that about takes care of my questions. Thanks!
