Looking over the section on pregenerated characters in the PS Organized play booklet, it wasn't clear as to whether someone could begin by using a pregenerated character, say the 4th level ones, and then continue on with that character in further PS sessions.

I'd hope that this flexibility could be built into the system.

One of the big hurdles my gaming community had when playing Living Greyhawk was how you couldn't include new or old gamers in the LG games we were playing because the table we were at was too high of a level. An old friend would come into town who hasn't played D&D in ages, or a new gamer has emerged on the scene and is interested in joining us. We wanted these people to play, but the rigid system made these opportunities fall by the wayside.

Now, in past LG forums I've read the rather passionate positions on needing to "earn" everything for your character. I understand the sentiment, but ultimately it just seemed to entrench an old guard and made it more difficult to expand the LG community.

When Secrets of Xendrik living game came out a large chunk of the local gamers switched over to that after awhile, mainly because the level bumps gave the flexibility a bunch of 30 somethings needed, to be able to step away from sessions for months at at time and still be able to come back to play with the people you enjoyed playing with, all while getting credit in a living system for the games they played.

I certainly remember how much some people disliked the level bump system of Xendrik, and I'm not proposing that. But it would be great if you could just pick up one of the pregens at a certain level and then just run with it. The pregens do help the problem of old-friends-being-in-town-for-the-weekend, but if you really want to be able to hook people into the living community and keep them there then having the flexibility to start at any tier and continue from there would help tremendously.

The player isn't earning all of those levels, but the compromise is that they are stuck with a certain build up to that level, no traits, no prestige, no module specific perks, and no gold. Compared to a character that has run through all of those adventures, crafted exactly as the player desired, with prestige perks and module perks and outfitted as they wanted, it sounds like a fair trade for those concerned about earning everything.

Official characters in PFS must begin play at 1st level and advance per the rules in the guide book. The pre-gens are to help GMs and coordinators make legal tables or to help new players try out our org play system or the PRPG rules.

Any chance of a Level 9 or 10 version of the pre-gens?

Nope.
