Just thoughts for after Gen Cons. Certain other skills lend themselves to Day Job style applications. For instance Handle Animal or Sleight of Hand. Of course I recognize the Day Job part may be more acknowledgement for those of us who choose to invest in a skill that will see little use in session.
As a bard with the Performance Artist faction feat, I have a +11 Perform check for my day job at 1st level. I'll average 25 gp after each session, and 75 gp on a very good day :-). This Taldar shall never poor. :-)
Although I'm not a bard, nor am that charismatic which means I'm looking at +8 bonus for my day job.
I am a fighter though, so I should be relatively good at that even though I can play a happy tune. Though, my low number of skill points, and low intelligence means that I haven't put any skill points anywhere else yet.
That doesn't help if you have a party of 6 wealthy bards. ;-)
Luckily, in another thread (I forget which one), Josh said that marshalling for events will split the players by arcane caster, healer, fighter, etc., to help make balanced groups. If you're running the mods at home or a local game store, you might have slimmer pickings if everyone insists on playing bards. (Then again, Hideous Laughter pretty much is SoD at low levels - maybe you'd do great!)
With my character craft alchemy at +11 (4 ability, 4 ranks, and 3 skill focus) i should range from 20gp to 75gp. Which is good because those alchemy labs aren't cheap.
I managed to get a total of less than 10 3 of 4 times and the other time I got 10 exactly. I only had a +4 (+5 on the last one), but the extra money isn't rolling in yet. But, I lived, and am now level 2 at least.
