What is the range of Feinting in combat?

Can an archer use the improved feint feat to attack and feint at range?

I think it's meant for mêlée attacks only.

Feint is used for Melee attacks, not ranged. I think this would encompass reach attacks as well.

Well met archer!

Obviously at greater range than for alot of others. I have seen PCs respond just to the sound of bowstrings (great for sound based illusions) one you might consider adding to your PC, or a silent bowstring whichever you like best.

The long and the short of it would be a bluff check and I would say RP the bluff. screaming "get out of the way I have a clear shot at his eye!" Works better than I feint toward the spellcaster with my bow....

Ask your DM if you need the feat, i doubt you do if you do it right...

Osirion (Paizo Charter Superscriber)

The combat action "Feint" (a use of the Bluff skill) specifies that the benefit is for melee attacks (reach is fine also):
"If successful, the next melee attack you make against the target does not allow him to use his Dexterity bonus to AC (if any)."

However, there is nothing specifically requiring you to be *in* melee with the target when you feint them. With Improved Feint you could Feint at 10', and 5' step up when successful, or 5' step back when you fail.

With Greater Feint, you could feint at range, and your allies would gain the benefit until your next turn. DM discretion applies to all that of course (including the option of allowing the ranged attack to work, I just don't see it personally).

Ah! It does say "melee combat" no ranged feinting for me :(

Feint isn't any good for you unfortunately, but if 3.5 books are allowed in your campaign then the Complete Warrior book has the feats for Ranged Disarm, Trip and Sunder. :)

If 3.5 material was allowed I would just take the feats that let me sneak attack with ranged weapons at 60 feet.

I thought that was just with crossbows though? Crossbow sniper was a neat feat.
