Hello,
I have questions about the spell statue.

The fate statue gives a solidity of 10, was on page a paragraph on the destructive energies.
This one mentions that in general the damage is reduced by half, is this the case as a statue?

The material is stone, is what all the damage by destructive energies are halved: acid, fire, cold, electricity, sound? Damage type Divine?

On ranged weapons, this is halved as well?

It is noted that most weapons melee may be ineffective against certain objects. Only the peak or the hammer may affect the stone. Is this the case of a person under the influence of fate statue? only type of weapon pick or hammer affect?

He is also immune to non-lethal damage and critical hits as the form of a statue?

Thank you in advance for your help.

I'll assume we're talking about the Pathfinder RPG.

"A statue spell turns the subject to solid stone, along with any garments and equipment worn or carried. In statue form, the subject gains hardness 8. The subject retains its own hit points. The subject can see, hear, and smell normally, but it does not need to eat or breathe. Feeling is limited to those sensations that can affect the granite-hard substance of the individual's body. Chipping is equal to a mere scratch, but breaking off one of the statue's arms constitutes serious damage. The subject of a statue spell can return to its normal state, act, and then return instantly to the statue state (a free action) if it so desires as long as the spell duration is in effect."

I think most of the damage-preventing qualities of being an object of solid stone will apply

  • You gain hardness 8 (not 10, unless the French version changed the rule?), so whenever someone attacks you, the first 8 points of damage will just disappear.
  • Some weapons might be considered completely ineffective. A whip will probably not help. For everything else, check with your GM, it's his discretion
  • Energy attacks will deal only half damage (you divide by two and then apply hardness). Generally, this should apply to all energy attacks (i.e. acid, electricity, fire, cold, sonic), though there might be specific instances when energy attacks will be different. Maybe you're attacked by acid that attacks stone, which will not only be applied in full, it will also ignore hardness. Also, don't let really old red dragons breathe on you, they will turn you into magma - which can't be good.
  • Note that "divine" is not an energy attack, neither is "force". Hardness will still apply.
  • Ranged attacks will do half damage.
  • I'd count out non-lethal damage, but critical hits should still be possible: You might be solid stone now, but your form still matters, your anatomy still matters. It might just be a stone head, but once you turn back to flesh, you'll really be needing that head.

  • I asked this question because I'm interesting about the living monolith PrC.

For the critical hits, I thought about the increased damage, not immunity for the decapitation or dismembered.

    And for the poison ?

Refresh my memory: Where is that from?

Well, the increased damage comes from getting hit in places where it really hurts. You might be stone now, but once that spell wears off you really wish he hadn't pierced the place where you heart is.

I'd say immune. You're made of stone. the stuff will just run off. Maybe if it's contact poison and no one washes it off before, or other circumstances where the poison will still be there...

A more interesting question is, when you get the appearance and hardness of granite, do you also get the weight? If you, say, jump off a flying carpet and cast Statue, can you do a pile-driver maneuver on whatever you're landing on? Can you block a trap door by standing on it? And if you're on weak flooring when the spell is cast, do you fall through?

Unless you have quickened the spell Statue, I'd say you fall and hit the ground before you can cast it. That's why feather fall is an immediate action to cast, so you have time to before you hit the ground.

    Contingency? :D

Contingency can only take up to a 6th level spell, so you'd need to research an improved contingency spell to use with statue (a 7th level spell). So, in core, no.

a feat for a quickened spell like ability in bestiary or elsewhere ?

Just a note, it depends on how high up you are. No breaking the speed of light by jumping off a carpet 1 mile up and hitting 4 seconds later. ;)
