If I have a character that is a cleric/druid and takes a druid domain instead of an animal companion, how many domain spells per level can the character cast in a day? Does the cleric/druid get one domain spell per level which can be selected from any of the three domains, or does the character get one domain spell per level from the cleric domains, plus a second one from the druid domain?

Cheers,

Sir George Anonymous

Just one domain spell slot per level. Like a Cleric.

You only get to select one domain though, so you only have one avaliable spell each level to fill that slot.

What would be interesting to know is what happens if you actually multiclass cleric and druid. Would the domains be interchangeable between classes? Like bonus domains gained through some 3.5 PrCs?
Thoughts any one?

The Domains are separated by class. If he's a 1st level Cleric or Gozreh (Air, Weather) and a 1st level Druid (Animal), he's got a bonus Domain spell that can be either Air or Weather, and a bonus Domain spell that must be Animal.

If he progresses to become a 6th Cleric / 1st Druid, he has bonus 1st, 2nd and 3rd level Domain slots for Air or Weather and, over on the Druid side, a single 1st level Domain slot for Animal. His Air and Weather Domain abilities will be those of a 6th level Cleric, but his Animal Domain abilities will remain at 1st level, as he's still only 1st level in the class that gave him access to that Domain.

Your spellcasting from class to class is totally separate

A level 1 cleric/level 1 domain druid would have 1 domain spell for first level cleric domains and one spell for first level druid domains.

That being the case, could the character choose the same domain for both classes, tracking the abilities and spells for each individually?

Well first of all, forgive the nonsense of my first post. I read your question too fast...

Yes, he can take the same domain in both classes.

about tracking the abilities and powers individually...

at first I'd say yes, but:

from Nature Bond:
...When determining the powers and bonus spells granted by this domain, the druid's effective cleric level is equal to her druid level...

To me these effective cleric levels seem stackable.
Just like the effective druid levels from a ranger's hunter's bond stack with druid to determine the power of the animal companion.

Your cleric/druid could have one domain powered by the two classes at full character level.
Domain powers dependant on level would benefit from the two classes levels.
For spells it would be weird since you could get domain spell slots for spell levels you could'nt cast yet as a cleric. So maybe spells would need to be tracked individually for each class.
I don't know really, just guessing here.

I'd be tempted to allow the player the option of having his seperate Domain bonus spells for each class list normally, but advance the Domain powers based on total Cleric/Druid level.

Example:
3rd level Cleric (domains Fire and Sun) / 4th level Druid (domain Fire)
Bonus 1st and 2nd level Domain spells of Fire and Sun for Cleric levels
Bonus 1st and 2nd level Domain spells of Fire for Druid levels

One iteration of Fire Bolt inflicting 1d6+3 fire damage 3 + Wis mod times per day and Fire Resistance 10, stacking Cleric and Druid levels for Fire purposes.

The other option would be to track them seperately, which would give the Cleric / Druid two seperate 'pools' of Fire Bolts, with the Cleric ones doing 1d6+1 fire damage 3+Wis mod times / day and the Druid ones doing 1d6+2 fire damage 3+Wis mod times / day. In that case, the character wouldn't get Fire Resistance until he reached 6th level in either Cleric or Druid (and gain nothing extra if he reached 6th level in both, as the same ability from the same basic source wouldn't stack and turn into Fire Resistance 20).

Where this gets wonky is dealing with Domains like Animal. A 4th level Cleric / 4th level Druid with the Animal Domain on both sides could theoretically have two 1st level Animal Companions. Frankly, it would be an enormous waste, and if I were that character, I would much prefer being allowed to stack those levels and get a single companion at -3.

That's a definite corner case of something the rules should probably not even be expected to plan for, and I'd adjudicate it as appropriate.

My inclination is to track them separately, so in your Fire example, 3+WIS fire bolts doing 1d6+1 damage, and 3+WIS fire bolts doing 1d6+2 damage. And as you pointed out, no Fire Resistance until one or the other of the two classes reached 6th level. That also eliminates the wierdness with the spells that nidho pointed out.

However, there is a note in the animal companion section that says that different classes granting an animal companion stack their levels rather than granting multiple companions. For the animal companion, a Cleric 7 with the Animal domain would contribute 4 levels, a Druid 6 with the Animal domain would add 3 levels, and a Ranger 4 with an animal companion would contribute 1 additional level. This one wouldn't be tracked separately.

He would have two domain spell lists with two sets of domain spell slots (based on his independent caster level from Cleric and Druid.)

For example, a Druid 9/Cleric 7 with Sun (Druid) and Healing & Protection (Cleric)

He would have 5th level Sun domain spells and 4th level Healing and Protection spells.

Therefore he would memorize 5 spells from Sun domain (1-5) as Druid Domain spells and 4 spells total chosen from Healing or Protection as Druid Domain spells.

That doesn't mean what you think.

They are not stackable, that rule simply says that for the Druid domain, the PC's Domain abilities are based on how many Druid levels he has. A 19th Cleric/1st Druid multiclass would have 19th level Domains from Cleric Domains and 1st level powers from Druid domain.

Yes, that's how I read it also, in a general context.

The stacking possibility(I'm not really convinced it could work) I mention could be only in the OP's context case. The PC chooses the same domain as a druid and for one of his cleric domains.

So cleric 19/druid 1 with domains: Sun(Druid) and Fire and Sun (cleric)

Would it have 20th level domain powers for Sun (cleric + druid) and 19th level power for Fire (cleric)?

or

would it have 19th level powers from Cleric Domains Fire and Sun and 1st level powers from Druid Sun domain separately?

This is the only way it can reasonably interpreted.

Any other interpretation makes leaps or ignores text.
