Okay, Adamantine clearly spells out that the cost is +60 GP per piece of ammunition.

Cold Iron is a simple double the price, which can be done individually or as a bulk purchase.

Unfortunately, Alchemical Silver shows a +2 GP for the Ammunition cost. Is that per piece of ammunition, like Adamatine, or for a set, like a quiver of 20 arrows?

That makes a serious price difference:
3 GP (at +2 for a set of arrows) or 42 GP (at +2 per arrow) for a quiver of 20 silvered arrows...

Serious archers want to know. ;)

It would be per arrow, as shown with Adamantine. And Cold Iron, if it wasn't a simple doubling of cost.

If it were the same as Adamantine, shouldn't it show the same entry on the price table?

Adamantine:
Ammunition +60 gp per missile

Alchemical Silver:
Ammunition +2 gp

Note that silver does NOT include the "per missile" designation, which is why I am asking for clarification. As is, it could be construed as being "per missile", or it could be construed as "per missile group". Where "missile group" represents a standard ammunition load, such as 20 arrows or 10 crossbow bolts.

Well that is confusing.

So what is the price of Mithral arrows?

I would say that arrows like hafted weapons should get a break on special material costs. Unless you are saying that the Adamantine axe has a adamantine handle.

Well that's a slippery slope. An Adamantine ax could totally have an adamantine handle. Actually it should considering the whole point is that it's incredibly durable, adding a weak point on the handle would be inviting your enemies to sunder it and ruin quite an expensive weapon. You'd probably be more likely to break the handle then anything more solid then wood you were swinging at too given the amount of force being pushed back on it.

Alchemical arrows have always been read by most people to cost additional per arrow. If you don't like that you should be discussing it with your DM. If you are the DM, then you decide how it works anyway. :)

Yes, but the difference in the price from 60/missile to 2/20 or 10 missiles makes it highly unlikely that it was supposed to work that way. Considering the question of 10 or 20, it's even more unlikely to be the case. Probably just a typo in the chart. 2/missile is still vastly cheaper than Adamantine.

The special materials section of the rules are FUBAR. There is six different special materials and there are six different ways to calculate the costs for those materials.

Cold iron is a simple x2

Darkwood are by the lbs.

Adamantine has a single weapon cost but multiple armor costs.

Silver has a cost for light or heavy weapons and a vague missile cost

Dragon hide ignores the armor cost but doubles the masterwork costs.

Mithral is by armor type or by the lbs for other things.

What a mess.

Agreed. I tend to work things out on a case by case basis depending on what is desired.

I...actually kind of like it being different. It makes things seem more special to what they are rather then some kind of clear cut all in one solution.

This is the first time in quite a while I've heard of it being a problem at all though, since they didn't really change anything for the Pathfinder RPG.

I know there was an errata for 3.5, but it doesn't seem to have carried through to PFS, and I just want it clarified, either way. Especially since the other answers seem to be, "If it isn't in our core rules, it doesn't apply." at least as far as PFSOP goes...

And this is for my PFSOP character...

Bump.

Any official word yet?

2 people marked this as FAQ candidate. 1 person marked this as a favorite.

So, are 20 Silvered arrows going to cost 3 GP, or 41 GP?

(Pathfinder Superscriber; Pathfinder Battles Case, GameMastery Maps Subscriber)

Did this ever get an official response?
It came up at a recent event and I ruled that the cost of silver applied to arrows was as a group so only 3gp. Was I wrong?

No answer yet hmmm.... gosh.

and I have a low level ranger I need to give an answer to soon...

I would think thou that as "Weapon blanch, silver" costs 5 GP and coats 10 arrows selling Silver arrows at 3 gp per 20 might be kind of odd.

this would mean that I can buy 20 arrows and two doses of Weapon blanch, silver for 11 gp, and then spend the time to coat the arrows, or just buy the silver arrows and save myself 8 gp and a lot of effort (and firewood).

Sounds like Twilight got an answer off-line and posted in another thread here

So, sounds like you found the cheaper of the two options already.
