What's the lowest CR colossal creature in 3.5/PF?

The only one that comes to mine for me is the Titanic Creature from MM2, which if like anything else in that book, is under-con'd (yes I'm an EQ veteran).

What about a 0 level commoner who's drunk a potion of whatever that Wu Jen spell is that lets you become colossal size, created by mixing Wu Jen with Master Alchemist so a 9th level Wu Jen spell can be put into a potion with no chance of DM blackballing apart from Rule 0?

I think Attack of the 50 Foot Commoner could be done pretty easily that way.

The titan centipede from the bestiary is CR 9, so this is an upper bound on the answer.

Titan Centipede sounds cool, my Bestiary is in the mail right now (GET HERE ALREADY!). It's for a solo game for a level 6 fist fighter who's pretty tough. I think he'd really enjoy getting to beat down a colossal creature.

That can then be dropped down to CR5 by making it a Skeletal Titan Centipede.

No, it can't. Centipedes have no skeleton. Now, a zombie Titan Centipede might be possible.

The just gave the various chitinous robots sized-based names, instead of monstrous whatever. Also, the coconut crab sounds delicious. Perhaps it will be the signature dish of Paizocon III.

This is correct. Zombie can be applied to any corporeal non-undead. A zombie colossal centipede goes from 10 HD to 20 HD, and 17-20 HD zombies are CR 7.

An even lower CR colossal creature would be to take the Great Forest Centipede, apply the Giant template, resulting in only a CR 7 instead of the titan's 9. I personally consider exoskeletons to be skeletal systems, which makes the Giant Great Forest Centipede Skeleton a colossal CR 3.

I agree that exoskeletons should count as skeletons for the purpose of the skeleton template. If nothing else, that ruling allows necromancers to send creepy, hollow bugs after people, and I'm not going to be the one to argue against a rule that allows GMs everywhere to haunt players with creepy, hollow bugs.

EDIT: Semi-Off Topic: And why exactly is it 'OKAY' to eat crabs and not spiders, lobsters and not scorpions. Where did our society fail to realize the similarity between crustaceans and arachnids? If there were merfolk, would it be 'OKAY' to eat them? Since the only difference would be fins and gills, lol.

A Titan Centipede (Bestiary p. 43) that is a hollow exoskeleton (by applying the skeleton template (Bestiary p. 250) sounds like it would make for an interresting a harrowing encounter. :)

Add the Burning Varient for even more fun.

Yea, I figured it's probably a size & location issue as well. I'm pretty sure somewhere in the world Tarantulas are good eats.... for someone. It just makes me laugh to see someone deathly afraid of spiders go to all-you-can-eat crab night.

I remember my wood elf barbarian ripping legs off a giant spider and making his survival check determining it WAS edible, while other players at the table grimace at me for suggesting such a thing.

And... I probably need more sleep.

Whoa! That thing looks like it should be in a monster manual. No need to add giant or something, it's good as it is. CR +1 for looking extra creepy.

8 limbs = creepy. You don't eat creepy.

On the other hand, I don't eat anything with more than 4 legs - yes, even if you cut off some of the legs.

And I've seen a reportage where some Amazon jungle dwellers catch and eat tarantulas. They showed you how to catch and prepare them, including the very important part about getting rid of their hairs (those things can really ruin your day. Apparently it's like getting metal filings into the face.

It's not really about fear. More about revulsion (which arguably is a sort of fear). I mean, I'd probably be afraid of a wild hog if I met it in the forest, but would have no problem eating it if it was on my plate. Things on the plate don't move any more, and all the pointy bits like tusks aren't on my plate at all.

Anyway, it's all irrational, that's what fear often is.

But I can see the spider/crab thing: Spiders are hairy, disgusting creatures, while crabs are obviously hard-shelled. That can make all the difference in the world.

LOL, that's so not the same concept. KaeYoss pretty much covered it, it's about the imagery and the '8 limbs'. Plus, where in the heck do you live that they serve BBQ Bear Ribs?? I really need to come visit, I wanna try that! :D On my plate, without the pointy-bits that is.

The point is that crabs and spiders are vaguely similar-looking but not terribly closely related, just as bears and cattle/swine aren't terribly closely related.

They are delicious, but expensive. I remember when I was stationed in Guam, one guy had one atached to a small chain. The thing was bigger than most small dogs and he had to pick it up with two hands.

Although I have to wonder. What's creepier: one burning titan centipede exoskeleton, or a nest of fifteen bloody house centipede exoskeletons that just... won't... die?
