Which seems a woefully short list to me... so I checked the data base on the off chance that something just got cut off on accident in the book. The database however has the exact same summoning list, which means good clerics looking to summon a monster off of this list are reduced to elementals only.
I guess the question becomes: Why? It's not like you have a level where there are only good aligned choices. It just strikes me as wonky.
The reason is that there just wasn't enough monsters in the book to fill out the list with lots of choices, honestly. We'll likely be providing guidelines on expanding the summon monster lists once Bestiary 2 rolls around.
Until then, though, yeah. It's elemental time. Fortunately there are four different flavors of elemental to choose from...
Perhaps also summon a creature from the Monster 7 list, and throw the advanced template on it?
Wait. I can summon an Ettin, but not a Unicorn? I don't know what to believe in anymore...
Yeah, the unicorn was the biggest blow to the SNA list in my opinion. I loved being able to port in any ally to kick off some healing and then proceed to gore and kick enemies until the duration expired.

What about summoning a genie? Is that a bit over the top?
All's I'm saying is, if I was a healthy adult male wizard, and I just hit level 15, I would be summoning a Marid, and I would have my Wizard Hat and robe PREPARED, if you get my drift. Scrolls of Transmute self to Rhinoceros would litter the floor.
Some monsters we wanted to leave off the list so that you'd need to use planar ally or planar binding to conjure them up. Genies are a great example of this.

My only question is why you would only want one Marid when you could have 1d4+1 Succubi...

Sounds like a lot of work for 90 seconds of fun. ;-)

Was this intentional?
SM XIII just happens to be a poor summoning spell.
However, note (for those who can summon evil creatures) that the Barbed Devil and the Hezrou used to be on the SM IX list, and the monsters that used to be on the SM XIII list are all down there at lower level summonings.
For example:
3.5, Wizard uses SM XIII to summon one Vrock, or One Fiendish T-Rex, or one Celestial Triceratops, or one Fiendish Dire Tiger.
Pathfinder Wizard uses SM XIII to summon:
1d3 Vrocks
1d3 Fiendish or Celestial T-Rex's
1d4+1 Fiendish or Celestial Triceratops
1d4+1 Fiendish or Celestial Dire Tigers
Etc.
Though I do miss my Colossal Fiendish vermin though... ;)

Poor Daivrat. Not only does he have a useless class ability, they're forced to imprison their friends.
:P
Genie's friend boosts caster level - irrelevant for planar binding. And planar binding is quite unfriendly, while summon monster only calls willing creatures.
