I would like to compile (with the help of the forums) a list of apps that people use from the app store to assist or enrich their tabletop gaming experience. Pretty simply list some apps that you guys like and use.

I'll start

I like

Candy dice
Dice bag
DnD scribe

(RPG Superstar 2011 Top 4)

Dicenomicon is pretty cool. It let's you make dice formula. I also like having a safari app in the background with the d20pfsrd open. There's also a spell collection app I can't remember the name of.

Osirion (Pathfinder Adventure Path Subscriber)

And the Dicenomicon guy is adding a MapTool client! Or at least, he has a demo of a MapTool client running on an iPhone. :)

I use QuickRoll. Pretty easy to use.

Gmtoolkit is pretty cool. It has a dice roller and you can use formulas to roll, for example, 8 groups of 3d6+5 or whatever you need.

Also has a quick name generator, room description generator and a word generator for fantasy sounding words.

Of course keep a Safari window linked to the PRD as already mentioned. Would like to see a basic character sheet and initiative chart someday.

Grand Lodge (RPG Superstar 2012 Top 16)

Any good apps for Android?

The Pathfinder Reference Document is out now as an iPhone app!

Complete with races, classes, feats, skills, spells, magic items and even monsters!

Unfortunately none that I've found yet. So far all the attention for Pathfinder/D&D Apps has been set squarely on the iPhone. What we need is an Android developer/Pathfinder Fan to change things.

Taldor (Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, Adventure Path, Campaign Setting, Companion Subscriber)

And Zune. :)

DnD Scribe is a nice, although basic, character development and management program.

What I use is Dice Shaker, Dice Bag, and PolyDice.

I really like Poly Dice Because it has one Button to roll 20 different lines at the same time. So if you have a creature with 4 attacks you can do all 4 attacks with the damage in one push of the button.

Anyone know if the Pathfinder Reference Documents app is being updated for the iPad?

I promise to do so after v1.1 of the iPhone version is out the door :-)

Are there any issues that you had to work out in terms of being allowed to charge money for this app? Or is it all kosher because it's OGL? I don't know

all the ins and outs of the legal stuff...

I use these apps for my RPG purposes:

Pip - A great die roller, and I highly highly recommend it. Comparable to a paid version of Candy Dice, with better performance and more options (variable dice colors for different attacks etc)
GMtoolkit - I mainly use this for coming up with random names; it's other functions are not very useful to me.
OpenGaming - I got it because it was free. I haven't used it much at all. I would love to have a PRD app to reference without using Safari. Thomax - I'd like to see more screenshots etc of your app (my wife doesn't approve of my buying apps, so I like to see what I'm getting before I incur her wrath ;) ).
KTdict C-E - This is an English to Chinese translator that I use when I'm running Serenity/Firefly games.
FileApp - if I have a PDF I need to reference in game I'll sometimes drop it onto my iPod with this.

Of course I also use the photos app for storing images that I can show around the table to illustrate a location or NPC, and I use the music app for playing background music.

I liked the looks of DnD Scribe, and I'd gladly buy it if there was a PFRPG version...

There is this one: World Builder. I freely admit that this is a self serving post. But, it is in answer to a direct question.

That looks awesome Mark! I wish I had an iPad to test it out. :D

Edit: LOL - told the hubby about it and he got it. :D

Thanks! I'm currently working on the iPad version. I'm hoping to put out a call for beta testers next month.

Version 1.1 of the Pathfinder reference app is now out: http://itunes.apple.com/no/app/pfr/id365514623?mt=8

New in this version:
- Bookmarking
- Improved menu page
- App remembers your last visited item
- OS requirement reduced from 3.1.3 to 3.1
- $1 cheaper. The app now costs $4.99
- More screenshots to see in iTunes

About the legal stuff: I got an email from Paizo telling me to remove all references to the "Pathfinder" trademark. I had the impression that this was not so much because they were so picky, but because of section 7 in the OGL.

If you plan to publish any OGL stuff yourself, I really recommende you read up on the legal stuff. Especially getting the OGL and the Paizo Community Use straight in your head is very important.

The PFR app really works well now, as an ingame reference. I used it playing Pathfinder two nights ago, and can give you my thoroughly unbiased testament that this app rocks :-D

Thomax, great job on the pfr. I haven't had a chance to use it in game yet, but I have been playing with it a bit, and I like it. I'm not even upset about you lowering the price two days after I bought it. Lol.

Mark Woodside, I just picked up world builder, and so far, it looks cool. I was wondering if you could add a place to put descriptive text for the races, classes, and such.

Thanks a lot, Izkrael! If we ever meet IRL, I'll buy you an ice cream for that buck you wasted :-)

Mark Woodside, I also got you world builder app. I feels very nice! Time lacking, I haven't had the chance to try moving some campaign stuff in there yet, but it looks promising. A random name/place/map generator would be nice to have in there, I think.

Thanks Izkrael and thomax!

@Izkrael - You could use the Text Blocks to save the descriptive text, and then just add it to each appropriate NPC. I don't know if that's exactly what you were looking for, but that would be the best way for now. I tried to keep the display views very lean due to the small screen size. That's why things like Occupation are single lines.

@thomax - I avoided random generators because I didn't want to impose genres or systems on the user. I'm thinking though, that a random generator based on the info you (the user) have entered, might be a solution. I'll have to rattle that around in my head for a while, and see what falls out :)

If you have any other suggestions, there's a Feature Request thread on our forums. There's been some great suggestions over there, and a few were already included in the v1.1 release.

Mark

My d20 Rules app (for 3.5e) is also available now http://itunes.apple.com/no/app/d20-rules/id368796548?mt=8. It's built on the same framework as the PFR app!

(Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, GameMastery Maps Subscriber)

I've been contemplating getting the PFR app for my Touch.

The one app I'd love to see is a Spell Grimoire. Something that gives you quick access to the spell descriptions, and lets you identify which spells you have memorized for the day.

Additional functionality for multiple "sets" of memorized spells would be cool.

I imagine this would be a pretty simple addition to the PFR app.

Also, I'd LOVE to see the PFR app allow you to enter your own content for personal use - preferably by browsing/uploading an XML file. I'm currently playing an Artificer conversion, and it's a real pain to carry both the Pathfinder book and the ECS/Magic of Eberron books.

Yup, I'm considering to implement this. I very much agree it would be a nice addition :-)

Is there an app for iPhone that helps with combat initiative? Including dice rolling, initiative, track HP for monsters and pc's and active spells. That would be amazing.

While it doesn't roll dice, when push comes to shove I fall back on DocumentstoGo spreadsheets. If your hand with excel-like formulas you could even setup a simple round tracker for conditions.

Most of the dedicated trackers seem built either for 4e or are just initative. The only other two that come to mind are both Apps by Gandreas, Dicenomicon(mainly geared to single characters) and MapPnakotic (a still buggy MapTools client/ upgradeable .campaign file maker). Both of which seem overkill and not the most intuitive for your purpose. Dicenomicon is XML driven so it is theoretically possible to create a "character sheet" that behaves like the kind of tracker you want... but I haven't seen anyone make one yet.
