Hey.

So... Our group recently switched from 3.5 to Pathfinder and I can't use Downdraft or Earthbind anymore.

We have to fight a large black dragon soon and I wonder if you guys have any tips that might get the dragon to the ground?

I'm the only spellcaster in our group btw.

I've got some offensive spells ready but I'm looking for something that prevents the dragon from flying away or something or get it to the ground for some melee slashing...

Cheers!

Control weather, gust of wind, or control winds will all achieve the generally same goal.

For lockdown, you can't beat Huge Air Elementals in whirlwind form (maybe with Augment Summoning, or Elder Elementals).

On the cheap, Tanglefoot bags & Entangle are very nice.

level and party members?

Depends a lot on party. A grappling optimized Monk/Fighter/Barb with Fly (or an item doing that) could theoretically grapple a Dragon and pull it down to the ground for you. Grasping Hand will work, too, if you have a caster with lvl 7 spells.

Can you wild shape to a dragon form, for example a smaller, weaker-looking metallic dragon that should have acid immunity (so it doesn't breathe on you) but seems to have a broken wing, enticing the bullying black dragon to land and attack you without mercy in melee?

Well, it's a thought. In other words, trickery or circumstance might do the trick (black dragons are not terribly bright, no listed ranks in sense motive) where spell power or technology will not.

Thanks for the feedback!

Totally forgot to post some data.

I'm a Lvl 10 Druid (actually 9 now, since I've got to deal with a lvl penalty).

I'll look into these tips asap and get back to the thread.

Tell him you're a dragon that got polymorphed by a goody-two-shoes wizard, and beg him for help to be polymorphed back. For good measure, use your eye color as proof of being a dragon.

bonus points for ripping off another Drizzt circumstance

As the others have said, I'd go with the tanglefoot bag. It might take a number shots (Reflex +10ish vs. DC 15), but it should work eventually.
