Hey guys,
So my DM is running an upcoming FR game and he's being super cool by allowing me to play a really outlandish character concept so long as I have the proper mechanics for it. My character concept is to play a Netherese diviner who foresaw Karsus' folly and preserved himself by transfering his mind/soul/personality/what-have-you into a magic ring. The ring in and of itself dominates (I guess?) the creature that wears it and replaces the host creature's mind with his own sentience, which is more or less a form of immortality. Tale as old as time. It's kind of a clone of Record of Lodoss War's Karla the Grey Witch concept, with a dash of LotR thrown in.
So basically this guy's been body-hopping for centuries, but it's just as likely that he's been sitting in a Halruaan workshop for many years as well. Anyway, it could very well be an artifact, but it also smacks of being a cursed item with intelligence . . . And does this already exist anywhere? It seems iconic enough that it just might.
So, anyone familiar with what sorts of numbers would need to go into making a magic ring that permanently replaces the wearer's sentience so long as it is worn?
Thanks guys!
(PS. I don't know what level the game is starting at, but it's likely that the guy restarts his class levels every time he takes over a new body. Oh yeah, and this is 3.5 FR with PFRPG rules, pre-Spellplague, etc.)
