That's right.

I am swearing off 4E. You heard it first here.

I'm about to start up a new RPG campaign and you want to know what I am playing? What Clark Peterson the President of Necromancer Games is playing? PATHFINDER.

Why? Because Pathfinder is D&D--its the D&D that I love.

Now don't get me wrong. There are lots of things I like about 4E. But when push comes to shove and I have to choose a rules system to use for my home game its Pathfinder. 4E may work for you, I am not criticizing. But for me, its Pathfinder.

And I am going to run the Legacy of Fire Adventure Path (updated to Pathfinder) from Paizo and with a first adventure by my pal Erik Mona.

Orcus has spoken ! Have fun with pugwampis, proteans and that whole City of Brass place :-)

It's about freaking time. I miss me some Necromancer product, dagnabbit!

Edit: This does mean some new product eventually, right?

I dont have anything against 4E perse, but I love the fact Pathfinder is backwards compatible with a huge extensive library of 3.X stuff, so thats a huge plus.

I tried both, and have to say, I didnt like 4E too much, its too combat orientated, missing alot of the non-combat type spells that made Dungeons & Dragons what it always had been. Some improvements did exist dont get me wrong, but overall, it just seemed WoTC was aiming to appeal to gamers who wanted a fast, easy to play Warcraftesque 'point, click, kill and loot' style philosiphy. Not saying that doesnt suit some style of gamers - of course it does, but alot of hardcore D&Ders who spent their time with 1E upwards generally avoided 4E, I know alot of people that went back to 3.5 after giving up on 4E, and I directed them to Pathfinder and they got hooked instantly.

That I wouldnt wager against WotC having 5th Edition out in a year or two (given what they do infamously with their trading cards like Magic The Gathering and so forth by ditching and outlawing older editions for tournament play and official use in favor of a new series).

At the end of the day, for what its worth - I think you made the right choice.

I've converted most of the NPCs in the first two adventures to PFRPG, if anyone wants them.

I could very much be interested in that.

And good to hear that we're a step closer to those coveted Necromancer products in Pathfinder clothing.

Vagrant-poet, may I have the updated NPC's for Legacy of Fire? Please send them to (avatar name)at hotmail(dot)com.

Finally... The Wizard's Amulet is what got me back into playing D&D, so I've missed you guys.

Is the whole company next? I really want some new Necromancer products!

I'd love to see The Wrath of Orcus.

Kingmaker is going to have some mass combat rules, apparently.

Welcome into the fold, Orcus. :)

I didn't know Orcus was so popular...

Great to hear Clark

Now when are we going to see some Necromancer Games Pathfinder Products?

Good for you! You are a public figure on the RPG scene and one that has quite a following, so it took some courage on your part to publicly stick with 3.5 (via PF of course) and break from 4E. This could not have been an easy or quick decision for you to announce publicly -so kudos. Enjoy your game and let us know how the LoF goes for your group. It's great to still have the game that you love around and supported. Hopefully Necromancer will be publishing new stuff soon if that's what you choose to do.

Great news, Clark! And sounds very similar to my own experience.

BTW what I was thinking about this earlier: Could it be profitable for Necromancer to release their best modules again converted to the Pathfinder ruleset? You had so many classics in your line (my favourites were sandbox goodies like Vault of Larin Karr)

Cheers!

That is great to hear!

Question though ... Clark, are you saying that Necromancer is swearing off 4E in favor of Pathfinder or just that you personally are?

I guess I should head over to Necromancer's web site and see what I can find ...

EDIT

... OK, I didn't see anything on the Necromancer site at all regarding this. In fact, both the News and Home page seem sort of out of date.

Clark, are you planning on posting a message like this on your own site as well?

Either way, glad to hear you are declaring your 'pro' Pathfinder voice Clark, even if it is 'only' in your personal campaign.

So much to say.....

But I'll just go with:

Excellent choice, sir!

Oh please oh please oh please, convince Judges Guild and Necromancer to do Wilderlands for Pathfinder, and make me the happiest guy on the planet!

Don't forget the GM reference threads stickied to the top of the Legacy of Fire forum. Ohh, or the obituaries thread on the Legacy of Fire forum either. There is going to be a certain expectation that if Orcus is running a game that PCs will occasionally die, and it would be kind if you could share the details of your glorious victories... uhh of the tragic demises.

Oh.....my joy is almost full. Now announce that JG and NG are doing Tegel Manor for Pathfinder. Do'h, just slap me and I will wake up. Welcome aboard Clark!

(Pathfinder Adventure Path, Modules, Battles Case Subscriber)

Gee. I was expecting a stat block. But this is pretty cool too.

I agree with Clark's view. 4e isn't horrible, it's not the end of the universe, it's not even bad. It's just also not for me.

Praise be to Paizo for keeping the edition I happen to prefer alive and growing.

Necro released 3 adventures a few months ago on PDF for 3.5, sales wasn't very good from what I gather. I know Bill has been talking to people that work with them about doing some more adventures, but has not said what they will be or if they will be 3.5 or Pathfinder. Clark has mentioned again recently about doing a Tome of Horrors Pathfinder version. But yes the front page is way out of date, you best bet to find info is in the Necro forms.

Cheliax (Bella Sara Charter Superscriber)

TRAITOR!!! HOW DARE YOU, THIS IS ABOUT MAKING A STAND AND TAKING SIDES TO THE DEATH AND...

oh wait...

I've been reaching the same conclusion and doing the same thing (though my Pathfinder AP of choice is Kingmaker)...

Never mind, carry on.

Talking about Mr Peterson and Necromancer Games: Any news on the Tome of Horrors update/upgrade/conversion to Pathfinder? Hmm? Hmm?

That would be very much appreciated if you don't mind sending to gsladoueur@cogeco.ca

Doesn't mean much until I see reasonably priced print (hell, even PDF) versions of the 3 recently-released adventures. :D

I'd buy Eamonvale if the PDF were priced properly (and Tsar if I had a guarantee the other 2 would come out).

Dont worry Clark about naysayers, you made the right choice. I loved Necromancer products, and Rappan Anthruk was a real monster of a dungeon (my players in particular still speak about the poor Mimic on the first floor of the dungeon, the one that was mutated by a Staff Of The Magi into a horrible killer shapeshifting mess...they went so far as to name it "The Gugarthin" themselves and lived in fear it would pounce on them every time they tried to hole up to rest).

I look forward to seeing new material for Pathfinder and I hope you enjoy every moment of it.

(Publisher, Legendary Games & Necromancer Games)

I'm sort of teasing. Its not that flamey :) I just like how if you say anything anti-4E it gets posted there now.

Clark

Well, that's impeccable taste right there, picking a Mona module. Not that Paizo has produced many. If you got any leverage on your "pal", I'd ask you to get him boozed up in a lonely bar and then have him sign a contract to do at least one module a year. Would you be kind enough to do that? For an old fan?

PS. A a pure aside, why did you update to Pathfinder from 3.5? Just wondering, because you obviously thought it's worth the effort to do the conversion work for Legacy of Fire, when you could have run the modules off the pages.

I miss ENWorld. It was such a nice place before the Edition Change. Now it's just a mean and spiteful dark corner of the web. Unless you're a 4th edition missionary and then it's crowns to you!

And it is odd to me that a place that uses such heavy moderation is still pretty bitter while here, a place that uses moderation sparingly is relatively civil.

Please, please, leverage Erik if at all possible into writing another Pathfinder module some time soon. We need more pugwampis in cactus patches... And further well thought through adventures, too.

Apparently it's fine to say that 4E is the real D&D on ENWorld, but if you make that claim about Pathfinder they shut down your thread ;-)

This.

I miss posting there as well but what we call edition wars here are nothing compared to the hell you open if you criticize the least little thing about 4e over there. (And for the record do NOT call it Magic the Roleplaying game, that didn't end well... just sayin. :-P)

That was just good sense on PirateCat's part to lock it. It was needlessly provocative and would just stir sh** up that needs not be stirred.

There are nasty forums out there where the word 'Pathfinder' is an invitation for vitriol and high dudgeon, but ENWorld remains a good place to visit, even having its own Pathfinder sub-section on the forums.

And, 4E *is* the 'real D&D.' So saith Hasbro, and since they own it, that's their right. There's nothing wrong with saying it, since it's the truth. I'll play Pathfinder anyway, and calling it 'the spiritual successor to D&D' or whatever is just provoking people who desperately want excuses to be provoked. Best to leave them be.

The Editions Wars are over. Both sides won. They got what they wanted, we got what we wanted. Beer and pie for everyone!

(Pathfinder Adventure Path, Tales, Battles Case Subscriber)

*Does the Safety Dance in Orcus' thread.*

Closed the thread.....someone sure does not want Pathfinder discussed as a game that is an incarnation of D&D. Reading what was there, you could feel the tension building. I dont visit EnWorld much, and that is why.

Ok, so Clark, we are sure happy to have you playing Pathfinder.

You gonna write anything?

I literally said the exact same thing about why I gave up on 4th edition less than a year after switching. Its not D&D, imo it's pen and paper WoW.

Thank goodness that Paizo kept the tradition alive.
