I want to start GM'ing a Pathfinder game at my local store's monthly meetup, but I can't decide whether it would be better to run a module or a regular adventure path. Since I plan on doing it monthly, I would normally opt for an adventure path, but I want to start the Carrion Crown AP when it comes out. Therefore, I'm not sure I'd want to start another AP only to stop it and switch to Carrion Crown.

Additionally, I want something with a horror theme. My primary interests are in Ravenloft style games thus my interest in Carrion Crown.

Any recommendations are welcome!

Council of Thieves is pretty good for horror. Otherwise i might recommend starting up a Pathfinder Society chapter in your store?

So your saying Council of Thieves is pretty good for horror then?

;-)

I would use Pathfinder Society rules and Scenarios they are set up to usually take 4-5 hours and work well for a monthly adventure.

You might want to consider starting up a Pathfinder Society group until Carrion Crown comes out. You can pick and chose from a pretty good selection of modules designed for a night of play. A lot have the horror theme you're looking for too. Once the AP comes out, switch things up a bit and start running that. :-)

I'm not certain I understand what you mean by "rules and Scenarios." Is there an adventure path associated with PFS games other than the published adventures?

I removed a double post.

Just as an FYI, DM_AKA_Dudemeister's post is showing 20 times (literally!) for me. Still.

Pathfinder Society uses the core Pathfinder rules, with a couple modifications to make it acceptable for an open play environment. What the poster meant by Pathfinder Society Rules are those outlined in the Guide to Organized Play.

The second half of the 3rd book, 'What Lies in the dust' in Council of thieves is pretty solid on horror. A haunted pathfinder lodge, undead shadows, creepy pyschotic animated childrens toys, 'haunts' that cause you to imagine you are consuming the flesh of your comrades (with wounds and a sense of fullness to match) along with vampires and the haunted skull of a former pathfinder venture captain? I think that can definately qualify as horror themed.

For a good horror themed module I highly recommend Carrion Hill. It will take a couple average sessions to get through, (took my group 3) and is set in ustalav where carrion crown will be. Great horror theme in my opinion and could help get your group in the mood for carrion crown.
