I was wondering what would be a good group of books to get to start my RotRL campaign. I'm looking for character options for my players mostly and anything else that would be useful. thanks!

Depends if your playing it in offical settings or not. And more important what are you looking for? In terms of Offical I don't have enough books on Pathfinder yet, the CG is always good to get however, if nothing else it'll help with offical flavor.

I played, not GMed, during the Beta play test period with my group. My GM wanted somebody to test out the backwards aspect of Beta so I played two charactes that were outside the norm.

1. A Goblin Tinker from WoW RPG (yeah I know but in our setting a subrace of Goblins grew out of enslaved goblins and they have found a nack for being Tinkers).

and

2. Pevishan Sorcerer/Archer

I'll break down some tibits.

Goblin worked well in terms of Role Play, but lacked in terms of power.

Tinker Class didn't need to be buffed up at all IMOP

Pervishan needs updating, but nothing major.

The Archer Class from 3 arrows for the king was lacking big time. I ended up combing aspects of the Archer from Sovering Stone.

So here are some books,

Mythic Races by FFG hard to find as it was 3.0 book but the races in it are very well done with somthing for all tastes.

World of War Craft RPG: Two words Tinker Class, and rules to invent stuff, great stuff, don't get me wrong I really like Iron Kingdoms and other sorcery and steam stuff, but the Tinker fits into any setting just fantastically. Also get the two Magic and Mayhem books they have lots of cool toys in them, and a good player (such as myself) can make some nasty stuff with them, inflatable guards filled with poison gas is not something imbreed Olgers think of when they attack your camp thats really a trap, just saying.

Sovering Stone and 3 arrows for the King for the Archer class, but be prepared for work (at lest for Beta standards).

As I recal our group ended up moving away from the core game for a while and played the swords of sins advanture, it fits in well with RotRL so I'd pick that up as well.

Also Spell Compainion and Renigade Wizards Spell book, if your GMing because the Rune Lords had a lot of Arcane Lore so our GM decided that the Wizard(s) in our group would discover new scrolls with unorthidox spells all the time. Or worst have bad guys use such spells on us.

I'd say most of these books are still available on line, if not I'm sure you can find them in e-book format.

Hope this helps, or if you were looking for something else ask, see what I can come up with.

TTFN DRE:)
