The Mordant Spire isn't actually a part of Azlant. It's part of Avistan, but is the closest point on Avistan to Azlant.
You can see why this Wiki entry on Azlant would lead to confusion:
"The island of Mordant Spire, on the far western edge of Varisia, remains as one of the few remnants of this once great continent."
I can indeed.
If we've mentioned in print that the Mordant Spire was actually once part of Azlant, I'm relatively certain that's an error... likely because we probably wrote that before we had a map of the Inner Sea region to reference.
I would just like to pop in here to remind everyone that the PathfinderWiki is a resource which anyone can edit, including those of you who aren't registered (though I don't know why you wouldn't register for the wiki just to get rid of the ads). So if these sorts of clarifications or confusions pop up, feel free to make changes to the related articles as necessary. Every little bit makes it easier for the next user. Just be sure to cite your references!

This is just a bump because the forum is kind of hard to use when things drop off the first page.

How much more tricky is Garund proving between all those deserts/magical wastelands/jungles?

Garund strikes me as much less populated than Avistan. Huge swaths of it are desert, destroyed countries, or have odd backstories built on the undead.
Garund would not be hard to stat up.
However, the lack of interest in this project means that I'm probably done. Avistan interested me most and I'm unable to develop it any further on my own, so if I ever do use Golarion as a setting, I'll just use my numbers I guess.

If Paizo ever puts up that blog with figures which James Jacobs mentioned earlier in this thread, this would be a natural place to come to discuss it, but other things have a tendency to fall behind when all the staff are busy, busy, busy. :(

A few days ago (see blog 23rd October 2009) James Jacobs invited feedback on his estimate for the size of Westcrown, based on the city's known population, and comments seem to be gathering *on this thread*.
Sorry for the delay in posting to bring this to your attention, but I've been offline and distracted by other things for a while...

It's ok. I've completely given up on this topic.
The bestiary was also such a major disappointment that I've lost interest in Pathfinder, at least for the time being.
