Hey all. I'm gearing up to start playing in a friend's new campaign and I'm looking for help trying to flesh out a character concept. I've decided to play a human fighter, a melee specialist, and I'm trying to decide what weapons to specialize in.
We're using a 28 point buy system, and my abilities are.
Str 17
Dex 10
Con 14
Int 11
Wis 8
Cha 12
I'm shying away from using a shield. I'm thinking of going with one large weapon or two-weapon fighting right now. I'd like the character to have a unique flavor, so I've been thinking of unusual combinations, like battleaxe and dagger, sword and handaxe, etc. Though options like the heavy pick and halberd crossed my mind.
Personality wise, the character is a tough, self-taught warrior.
Any suggestions?

Your dex is too low to dual-wield: you need 15 Dex for Two-Weapon Fighting. With 17 Str, upped to 18 at level 4, you're right in the prime for a two-hander.
Greatsword and Halberd are probably your best bets given your concept.

Ah. I overlooked that. Thanks.
Also, I'm looking to add a little flavor. Any suggestions for a prestige class down the road?

If you plan on going with the halberd, I recommend getting at least a 13 in your Int so you can eventually get Improved Trip. What's the point in having a weapon that can do something extra if you can't actually do the extra thing well, right?

Hmm. Good point. I might have some restructuring to do if I go with the halberd.
And since we're still using 3.0 as our base rules I can take two-weapon fighting without taking Ambidexterity and qualify for the Spinning Halberd feat from Complete Warrior.

Looks like you've left some points on the table.
Also, I have a character that uses a flail and throwing axe. Gives good damage, disarm, trip, and you've already got a ranged weapon equipped if, say, you drop one enemy and then want to throw at one attacking an ally. It's been a fun combo.
