Hm, I'm afraid that it looks like I have to give some bad news then.

With seeker pulling his name out and no new entries in, it looks like we don't even have enough folks to build a full team so I am going to be calling this game. The backgrounds I received were great and I was really excited to get things rolling, but I suppose a few things worked against me; the fact it was a module and not an AP, the background requirement, and the low level. When initial interest came so quickly, I hadn't realized total interest would be so low.

So thank you to those of you who built a character and got started with things, I'm sorry that the game didn't quite pan out. If I put together an idea that has more traction and interest, I'd be happy to have any of you involved.

Thanks,

-Tarlane

sorry I pulled to give room for other players.

I have a few ideals on why the low interest. Ya have over 50 posts in here so many folks will think your full. I pulled as I thought it would open up space form some new players. I didnt mean to nail the game by pulling that was not the effect I was going for as you seemed to have more folks wanting in then ya had spots

Osirion Deserach (Pathfinder Chronicles Superscriber),

Tarlane if you still want to run this I would be interested in getting involved. As a character concept (rough will be happy to provide a more detailed description and background).

My intent was to play a local teen, a jack of all trades who has picked up his various skills from members of the community, a bit of storytelling here, some magic there, a mischievous yet good-intending youth. A bard initially, perhaps a bit more later.

Anyway let me know if you want to try and keep it alive, and I can give you the full write up.

Play by Post is a tricky beast, as I've noticed. I never thought our KOTOR game would wind down, but I gave out a few too many open ended choices, without realizing how hard it was to resolve decisions like that when everyone isn't face to face.

I also noticed in my Second Darkness pbp planning threads that at the beginning, you can find tons of people interested, but as Shadow pointed out, the longer the thread gets, the more I think people assume that the pbp is pretty much full. I've had a hard time getting back ahold of some of the alternates in that game when other people dropped out, so I don't think its just your game. I think its just how many initial people jump and and if they get the chance to make up their characters in the same timeframe as everyone else.

It seems strange, but even a few days after the initial post, I think you almost need to make a new post like "X Campaign, Still Seeking Players" or something like that.

Anyway, I had fun making up the character, so if it turns out nothing came of it, it doesn't bother me any.

Max Hellspont,

Shucks, and I was about to submit an application for a dwarf cleric of Torag this evening. If you decide that you still want to take a couple of character applications and start this up, I would be happy to post a character.

It looks like it took me getting disheartened about it for the interest blossom. I really was looking forward to running the game, and it sounds like a number of you are really interested as well so we can proceed. It just had looked like I was putting a bit too much on such a low level game.

If you two want to put in the idea of the jack of all trades character and the cleric you had mentioned above, I wouldn't even be adverse to expanding the party size a bit to include everyone so we could still have a balanced party and I can include those who have been around and waiting for me to try and gather a few other people. Hopefully I'll hear from those others at some point today and we'll be able to get things going.

I'm glad to have heard from you all and to have found out you all are looking forward to this as well.

Alright, I just put up a discussion thread and put up a post that is in character but takes place the day before the actual adventure begins. We can talk OOCly there, but I figure this will be a good way for you all to get to know each other(though your characters likely know each other, being from the same small town) and to get to know the other townsfolk as well.

Kevin,

What is your idea for a character? We have a few more people who are looking like they are going to put some ideas in, but id love it if you threw your hat in the ring too. Let me know what you were thinkng to play and whatever ideas you may have for a backstory.

Well I was thinking maybe a halfling monk background would be she is a student of the local one. Although I do notice you already have a monk as a character so if you would like me to come up with something else just let me know.

Could you summarize your current confirmed roster? I'm actively looking for a PbP game to join and will make a character appropriate to round out a party, but this thread has become more than a bit disjointed, and I'm having a bit of trouble telling how many and who are now on board. Thanks!

16 years ago a warlord and his horde tryed to take back the worldwound... it failed. As the namless warlord shamble to a outpost. He handed a child to a novice solaerd. "He holds..." Those where his last words. The novic wasn't a soldard he was a pladin. This pla. thought about what the warlord said. He figure no one would want a child from the worldwound. As he carried the child back to town a new family moved in. This family seem like it could handle a child from the worldwound. So the pal. tould them the story and before he could finshn the father exceped the child.

here is the expanded story.

Max Hellspont,

Filge avatar

Here's a bit of the background for the character I had in mind.

Drosk Ironhame, dwarf priest of Torag:

CLANG! CLANG! rang the forge hammer against the glowing red metal. CLANG! CLANG! as the young dwarf hammered the heated steel into the desired form. HISSSSSS! of the steam as he carefully lowered the still warm dagger into the quenching bucket.

Drosk raised the tongs out of the bucket and admiringly appraised his handiwork. He had been working at the forge for hours, carefully crafting the dagger that he would offer up onto the altar of Torag, the god of artifice. Finally, the steel blade was finished and, once cooled, could be fitted into the gilded hilt that he had fashioned earlier.

CLOMP! CLOMP! sounded the heavy boots as Drosk's uncle Braggar approached the forge. Braggar was the finest smith in Kassen, and had taught Drosk all that he knew about metalworking. Braggar was also a perfectionist, and Drosk knew that his uncle would find some fault with his handiwork. Without a word, he offered the blade to his uncle for inspection.

"Hmmph," the elder dwarf grunted critically as he eyed the dagger, slowly turning the tongs this way and that as he held the blade up to the light and then pulled it close to his face for a closer look. "Good and straight, but there are some slight imperfections here, here, and here," he said, pointing to two spots along the blade's length and one spot near the tang. "As it is, it will make a fine show blade, but with time it will break if it is used for much real work." Braggar handed the blade back to Drosk as he added, "You do good work, nephew, but you still have room for improvement. You need to spend more time at the forge..."

"I KNOW, uncle," Drosk interrupted. "'If I want my craft to live up to the Ironhame name.'" Drosk finished his uncle's statement for him. "You know I want to be as good a weaponsmith as you someday, but I also have duties to the church. You know how much it means to me to follow in Father's footsteps and become a priest of Torag."

"I know, Drosk," Braggar sighed, not wanting to start up the old argument. He loved his nephew as if he were his own son, and while having a priest of Torag in the family was an honor, Braggar would have done anything to have kept Drosk from following in Thangar's footsteps. Drosk's father had been an adventurer, and had been killed battling fire giants shortly after his son had been born. Drosk had never known his father, but had heard all of the stories of his father's many heroic deeds. It had always been Braggar's greatest fear that someday the young dwarf would take up his father's mantle.

"It is a good blade," Braggar said as Drosk placed the dagger on the cooling rack, "and will make a fine offering to Torag. Now, don't you have some duties to attend to at the temple with the High Priest?"

"Yes, you're right, uncle," Drosk said, putting away his tools and cleaning the area around his forge. "There is much to do at the temple. I hope we have time to finish before the festival starts!" As the young dwarf finished, he grabbed his cloak and donned the brightly colored hat that his aunt had knitted for him. "Tell Aunt Beryl not to keep supper for me. I'll plan to eat at the temple with Father Prasst!" he added as he hurried out the door into the brisk autumn afternoon.

"I'll tell her," Brask replied to the door as he sat wearily on a nearby bench. He was beginning to regret suggesting Drosk to Mayor Uptal as a candidate for the pilgrimage to the Crypt of the Everflame this year.

If you think this would fit with the party and adventure, I can have the character put together by tomorrow night.

Thanks for your consideration.

Best Regards!

Hey Tarlane, Deserach here. This is the character I would like to play in your game. All background and bio information is in the profile, so I will not re list it here. Let me know if you have any questions, I built it on the 20 points and everything is from the core book and the traits pdf.

Once I hear back from you I will post in your discussion thread.

Naria,

A 16-Cressida-the-Rebel R avatar

Here is the Monk character. Admittedly it was made for another persons game but that one died out pretty quickly and I was still hoping to get a bit more out of the character (If you would prefer I did one from scratch let me know)

As for background I was thinking of maybe making her the origonal or just another student of the Monk teacher and she and Bandar could have been rivals (That is if Bandar doesn't mind)

Ok, it looks like we have now officially flooded and filled up since my last posting. This is a rather good thing though, I think, as with the attrition that PbP's have on players it will be nice to have a bit of padding. I can strengthen up the encounters to make sure that things are still nicely challening.

When I saw the rush of submissions start yesterday, I had actually meant to cut things off at 7, but if Bandar is interested to have the competition of another fellow student, I think that could add a nice bit to the RP and so I think I can handle having all 8. With that in mind, the team should be those below.

KEJR - Thindar - Half-orc Ranger
CHP - Velios - Half-Elf Fighter
Seeker - Hanathan - Human Paladin
Catman - Deilen - Human Sorceror
Kaspar - Bandar - Dwarven Monk
Max - Drosk - Dwarven Cleric
Deserach - Beilin - Human Bard
Kevin - Naria - Halfling Monk

You'll need to be a little careful with not having a rogue, but you do have a handful of skilled or agile characters and so I think you will be able to do alright.

Please, everyone feel free to start to pose on the discussion thread and I'll get some posts in here for the newcomers to try and give them closer connections to different townsfolk.

Spoiler:
I think that Braggar is quite a perfect fit for your character as someone to be attached to, so that will do really well with your character. Just to give you a bit more insight into his personality however, so you know what you are likely to have dealt with in the past, he's a barbarian and is known to fly into rages when there is imperfection in his works. It is somewhat accepted in town that his regular need to repair parts of his workshop or tools is one of the aspects that adds to the length of time it takes him to forge his creations.

Beilen

Spoiler:
Having a tie into the tavern should work very well for you, Trelvar and Asina are very welcoming and Jimes likely would have taught you any sort of larcenous skills that you may have. He's well known to be jovial about his sticky fingers and jest about such things, often saying that a little petty theft is all in good fun.

The other person who may be of interest to your character and has likely taken him somewhat under his wing(and I don't think I've mentioned above) is Jocyn Elmaran. Jocyn is a half-elf bard who lives in a room above the tavern and has for the last five years since an encounter with some orcs near the belkzen border left one of his legs crippled. He earns his keep playing a variety of instruments and singing in the tavern below and he is very eager to help anyone who shows an interest in the arts. He's something of a lax teacher due to his carefree style however and if you have spent much time with him you may have occasionally heard drunken ramblings from him that hint at a terror in his past that he refuses to speak of any other time.

Kevin

Spoiler:
I haven't seen a lot of your characters background yet, though having him be a fellow student of the Monk Mentor in town will give you a good tie into the others. But if you can flesh out the character a bit more I can probably find some other people in town who you can have some real connections built in too.

You know i hate to be a bother but i was certainly looking forward to playing Manduzi and it appears that you currently only have 4 players in the Kassen Village Thread.

Memento, I'm glad to see your eagerness to be in the game and your character is looking pretty good.

I am still waiting to hear back from three of the characters who haven't posted since at least Sunday. Let me give them until tonight before I start looking at swapping in you. If I haven't heard from all three of them by tomorrow morning, you can slide in one of the spots and I'm sure a rogue will be a welcome addition to the party.

Hopefully we haven't lost anyone before we have started though and people have just gotten a bit busy and so haven't gotten introductory posts up yet.

The characters I have not yet heard from are:

Hanathan
Drosk
Deilen

I know Seeker personally and he has been having some troubles the last few days updating to Windows 7 but he had Decided to pull out Hanathan previously as he has quite a few pbp's he plays and runs and to make room for those less fortunate in the areas of pbp's.

So i'd gladly fill this spot, and would love to get in on the pre-game roleplaying

Andoran Tarlane (Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, Pathfinder Adventure Path Subscriber),

That could be, he is in one of my other PbPs as well, though he had indicated in that one that he would be posting on that tonight.

It does sound like Seeker isn't too sure about keeping up with it though, so I have a feeling that you will be able to slide in. Between that and a couple of the others who have been quiet for a bit then I don't think it will be a problem if you go ahead and post over on the discussion thread to get yourself started.

If everyone does come back and jump in, then worse case scenario is just that we just have a -really- big party, but since I was already planning on adjusting for a large party, that won't be that much of a problem. I think that as long as you maintain a quick pace still, having more players tends to work to your advantage in a PbP.

Is everything alright? I haven't heard much out of you and when I have its just really been single short sentences. We're all enjoying the rp over in the Kassen Tavern and are going to start off the real story tomorrow morning and I'd love to have you join us, but I have to admit that I am a bit concerned that you are up for keeping up with a RP heavy game. If you feel you are, I'd love to see your background more fully fleshed out and for you to join us in the tavern. If playing out your character isn't so much your style, then I'm not sure this is going to be the game you are looking for.
