Here are some pictures from the first part of AP4

Spoiler:

I wanted to do something special for the Battle at Sandpoint. One of my players had a large basement and a ton of terrain. We set up the main areas of Sandpoint for the important parts of the battle. (We had to abstract some because of space limitations)

Cheliax (Owner - Enchanted Grounds)

Those are awesome!

I'm so jealous. This is exactly what I want to do, but don't have access to the terrain or the space. The best I'm going to be able to come up with is a table-size map of Sandpoint that's been gridded with 5-foot squares.

Congrats on having such a fun game!

Freaking AWESOME! I wish I had extra space to dedicate to such endeavors. I just finished running one group through that encounter.

Spoiler:
I just utilized a larger printout of the town and smaller minis to show the position of the giants, bears, dragon, PCs and guards/NPCs and then just mapped out where the PCs were on a battle mat when combat was going to ensue.

But this ... wow, man, just WOW!

Those pics kick ass!

Awesome. Thanks for sharing those.

That is pretty incredible, and exactly what I want our group to do (instead of a computer graphic projection like maptools or whatever).

3-D terrain rocks!!

Taldor (Pathfinder Adventure Path Subscriber)

Wow, that is fantastic. Thanks for sharing. :)

Well, this puts me a bit down today - as I start the raid on Sanpoint in about two hours - without 3d-terrain!

Well, as long as my players don't see this thread, everything will be fine! :)

Awesome stuff, and lucky those players who have such a DM.

I wonder, and this is kind of a thread-jack, if other DMs pay for handouts, terrain and all that cool stuff themselves, or if the players share some of the costs. I ask, because I normally pay everything myself (as the DM), and I love to show my players cool stuff at the table!

That's awesome. I have a buddy with a large collection of Dwarven Forge materials and houses. I'll need to hit him up to do something like that.

Thanks everyone for the comments. Its been one of our long time desires to do more with our miniatures with our role playing. We are pretty excited with Kingmaker coming up (and the guy who hosted this for my game is also a DM in a different game I am a player in and he is doing Kingmaker as soon as it comes out....can't wait!)

I DM one regular game and one infrequent game, as well as play in two other infrequent games. In all of them the DM pays for the things he needs, but we are all good in "borrowing" terrain, figs, or whatever else has been bought by someone else. I enjoy lending out my stuff in these cases because they get used. (Or as DM I can go buy something if I need it!)

Looks cool! I don't see any grids on the models. Do you use 5ft squares to determine combat effects or some other method?

For this since the table was an abstraction of the town, we used a combination of the Sandpoint map for travel distances, and we used a tape measure for the battles themselves. For anything else, I winged it and made judgment calls.

As a GM since the late 70's, I have tons of terrain, most of it older than my present players...

I have a ton of paper buildings and terrain from my days of Warhammer and Mordheim, and lately, there are a lot of inexpensive paper buildings available online. For about $40.00 in downloads and $30 in ink, cardstock, and foamcore, you can build some stuff. At least enough for Sandpoint.

What is cool about the OPs table, though, is that his buildings LOOK like Sandpoint, which is totally awesome....

Anyway. By the time I run AP4, I plan to spend a day with the players having them help me assemble the town buildings.

Dude, this is amazing.

My campaign has been doing everything through MapTools (not remotely -- we all get together and put it on my TV using an HDMI cable), and we've all loved it, but now you've got me thinking about setting up the raid like you've done here. The 3-D effect for building heights and whatnot really make a big difference.

Awesome. Just awesome. :-)
