My players should be arriving in Runeforge next session, and I face a small dilemma. I haven't fully converted to Pathfinder rules yet, but I have borrowed from those to eliminate XP as a spendable resource, which I was never a big fan of. Which leaves me with the problem of determining just what Ethillion actually does since it can no longer defray XP costs. Suggestions?
In a similar vein, I'd like to offer an alternative to making Runeforged weapons to those party members who decide they don't want to harness magic based on sin--or who never use weapons, for that matter. Now, according to the fluff, the Runeforged Pool was used to aid the wizards of Runeforge in crafting magic items--and surely they must have used it for things besides Runeforged weapons. So I'm also looking for suggestions on ways they could harness the energies of the Runeforge Pool to create other powerful items that could aid the quest.

Isn't the simplest answer to have the Ethillion defray the GP cost?
IMC, we have decided to do something besides sell magic items on the open market, in part for verisimilitude, in part to keep them in Sandpoint instead of the Bazar of Sails in Magnimar.
in essence, if you have any item creation feat, you can "disenchant" an item and get a vial of "Ethillion", which is worth 1/2 the magic portion of an item's market price. You can then use this magic goo in the creation of another item. It's the same net effect of selling an unwanted magic item on the open market, except you have to use the ethillion-gp-equivalent in the creation of another item or items. It's also considered a trade good, so you could sell vials of it for full price instead of using it to create more items.
So in that sense, the pool of ethillion in Runeforge is could either be a big pool of gp-equivalent goo for making items, or a potent disenchanter sucking the gp-value out of existing items, or both.

That is a really good idea. I think I will do the same, but put an extra incentive in that when they use the Ethillion that it will reduce item creation time as well (maybe by half of the value of Ethillion)
