My RotRL campaign starts on the 25th of July. I have most of my pre-planning finished, but I'm trying to dig up some good supporting material. One thing I'm interested in is suggestions for Dungeon Magazine issues with good sidequests.

I'm planning on having the manticore from issue 98 as a diversion, and I also plan on having the Red Raven make an appearance during the swallowtail festival.

I'm looking for a couple other interesting ideas.

My players tend to spin off in all different directions, and I'd like to have a few red-herrings to throw at them in case they get too zany.

Thanks!

I used pretty much all of Wingclipper's Revenge (sorry, I can't remember the issue #) during an early trip from Sandpoint to Magnimar. At the end of the side quest, the heroes were rewarded by the Shadar-Kai second-in-command with a two-headed coin that the PCs could use for a favor from the First World. The players (except for the one who was carrying it) forgot all about the coin until the party met Svevenka in Spires. She appeared in a threatening manner and then realized they carried "The Grey Man's Coin." She provided them with aid and shelter, which was a great closure moment in the campaign.

Thanks! I'll look that one up.

It's a great adventure. When I ran it, my PCs really loved the chance to raft down the river. They pulled out banjos and fishing lines and asked eachother what corn-pone was.

Wingclipper's Revenge Dungeon #132 (Mar 2006), page 20.

I'm going to need a sidequest or two for my players -- we are using a slightly slower rate of advancement. I'm not sure rafting down a river is something they would chose to do (and I don't own the magazine in question).

Any other "adventure seeds" GM's have used?

I too am using the slow advancement rules.

I have used the free "D" series (Hollow's Last Hope, Crown of the Kobold King and plan on using Revenge of the Kobold King soon).

I put the site of the ruined dwarven Monastary in Whisher's Well.
I had the building be an ancient Thassilonian ruin that the dwarves had repaired for their use.

Not Dungeon magazine material, but hopefully interesting enough for you;

I intend to combine a couple of modules from WotC site
http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/duarch/ad
I have an idea for my online game, so if any of my players happen to be viewing this thread , look away .......NOW..

Spoiler:
First of all I am using "Night OfThe Strawmen" to be combined with the events that take place during the Swallowtail festival. (In my game the two festivals have been combined to reduced the number of days where people are not working and on holiday).
The hooded, mysterious stranger is none other than Old Megus upto some nasty tricks, one of which is to get revenge for the "murder" of her sister (though in my game she will not be identified at this point).
The second comes after Burnt Offering when she comes to the edge of town with two, maybe three Ogres and offers a deal for peace; In return for stealing a heart stone from a Night hag that is passing through the area.
Later on (at level 7ish) I will play out "Witching Season". Changing Groa for Megus, Rann as the "murdered" witch that was burnt at the stake at Pyre point (before breaking free of her bonds and falling off the cliff at Hags Plummet)and the role of Autumn Wren being played by Rynshin Povalli (area 30. Vernah’s Fine Clothing in Sandpoint) The Pearl used in this module is actually the heartstone that was stolen from the Night hag some weeks/ months ago and modified by Megus to have different / New powers.

If you wish for me to elaborate further then let me know.

I need something urban or at least very proximal to Sandpoint to occupy the party while Hemlock is in Magnimar and they are "holding down the fort".

I was thinking of the following:

1. PCs need to break up a bar fight
2. Found dog
3. Barn, or perhaps dump fire
4. Visiting "somebody" would like some more security while he flirts and tries to score with the local women.

Does anyone have any ideas that they think would work supremely well in this situation?

Thanks in advance.

OOOH OOOH OOH I got one!!! If I recall correctly the head tutor of the academy has some sort of lab/museum/whatever in the basement of the school.

How about he has a fair sized number of inaminate objects down there that manage to break free causing all kinds of chaos in the town. The funniest thing about it would be the fact that they could be every day objects such as a stool or a plantpot (with plant of course!!) which could try to hide amongst items of a similar nature so the players have to guess which one is the animated one whilst it pretends to be normal before making a final break for freedom out of town.
