I have a cleric of Nethys who's asking for an ally in Sunday's game via lesser planar ally. They'll be going into Arkona Manor. I'm thinking that an advanced mephit might be the only option, but I'm open to other ideas.
Anyone have any?

How about an advanced elemental? They're neutral.

That could work. Thanks.
Nethys lives in the Maelstrom, so he'd have a lot of contacts with CN creatures too.
I'll ponder. :)

Proteans might also work, though you'll have to peel back on the hit dice for a lesser ally.
If you really want to stretch, Spellweavers make excellent minions of Nethys. Just change their type to Outsider.

Nethys is on pretty good terms with the proteans. Now whether they'd be cool with the bindings of one any of the various planar binding/ally is another question. Depends on what chorus the potential protean ally belongs to (if any), and that chorus's philosophy, and the PC's goals, etc.
They'd be fun to have with a party though.

The Torthune from Kobold Quarterly 7 would also be appropriate (although they'd need some depowering) as they're specifically mentioned as being Nethys' servants.

I'm delighted to hear it! I thought they'd be a good fit. :)

The really great thing about the planar ally spells is that they're clearly negotiations entered into willingly by both parties, so the proteans not cool with it won't be those called.

They'd be very fun. :D
Am I right in thinking that we haven't seen any proteans with as few as 6 hit dice yet? I'm pretty much on my own for making them up, right?

I for one want a protean familiar (as if the ubiquitous faerie dragons that always seem to show up in my campaigns weren't bad enough). ;)
