So anybody interested in PaizoCon UK 2010 back at Aston University on the weekend of the 17th/18th July?

Volunteer GMs, suggestions for games, guests and activities and any questions then just contact me via paizoconuk@hotmail.com

I am interested for sure, but I'll have to wait and see as to what I'd be doing at University around those dates.

The only real question is what other games we could play. Keep it to PFS, or maybe introduce a few other game types. I wouldn't mind playing another game, but then again, I can play them at plenty of other conventions, while this is PaizoCon!

Interested, and very pleased to see this thread up... :)

A number of people this year talked about running their own adventures using the Pathfinder rules (much as happened at the US PaizoCon this year). I think while the focus will continue to be on Pathfinder Society organised play there will be opportunities for other games. If there's a particular game you want to play or run then let me know.

Yetisburg!!!

There are a few games I was thinking of, mainly revolving around a 1920's Call of Cthulhu meets Torchwood mashup. Or a 1930's Torchwood vs the Nazis game. But anyway, with the con being so far away, I think it best to not worry too much about what games to run till at least next year.

I am doubtful at the moment as to whether I will attend. I am not sure whether I will be buying Pathfinder RPG yet and if I do, I doubt I will be comfortable enough with the changes to GM it. If I borrow my mate's copy or there is a free SRD on line I may make a character to play.

However, more to the point Continuum 2010 is on Friday 2nd until Monday 5th July and I very much want to attend that. Having gone to a weekend of gaming only a couple of weeks before PaizoCon UK I doubt I can justify to my wife going off for another weekend.

I guess I could maybe swing going to play in just 2 games on the Saturday as I did this year, but I am not sure the cost will be worth it.

Sorry!

That date is the best one for Aston. Unfortunately I think whichever date we picked it would be too close to another convention - I guess we can't please all of the people all of the time.

The actual cost to attend hasn't been determined yet so keep an eye on thsi thread and never say never...

And that is cool, I don't expect everything to revolve around me :) I am pretty sure my two mates will attend at least.

I will indeed keep an eye out. Just as a point of reminder - do GMs get a discount at all? If that is the case (and more importantly I have bought, read, digested and become confident with PF RPG) I may offer to GM. I have run several PFS scenarios in Season Zero as well as numerous other cons and find it enjoyable.

Yep, GMs get discounts. Basically what we did this year was you only pay for what you play. So those of us who GMed five slots paid no entry fee (and got some cakes!).

[As a side note, I'm trying to organise a team of Pathfinder GMs willing to run Pathfinder at UK conventions. Hopefully we can then get together to do slot zero games too. Game 09 in Manchester in October will probably be our first outing. If people are interested then do contact me.]

I have wifely permission already for this.

Great News Dave

Re the point raised here, I would only be interested in PFS games.

Thanks

Thanks Jason.

I'm still thinking about how to organise it. Current thoughts are to again have 5 sessions but make the third one (evening on the Saturday) 'lighter' with it being more explicit that there are boardgames/card games and non-pathfinder society games going on but for there to still be a few pathfinder society scenarios being run for the 'hardcore' Pathfinders.

This year we really had only one group of 5th level plus characters so on the Sunday they were playing a scenario that had a minimum of tier 5. In 2010 I think there will be a greater spread of level characters plus some of those playing 5th/6th level characters now will possibly have some other, lower level characters to play (and with the new rewards structure, some of us GMs will have characters with a couple of levels too).

Oh yes. I will be there. Oh YES!

By this time, the craziness in my life should have stopped, and things returned to normal, so Yes, I'd join !

(Assuming I still have a job of course).

I'm in a similar situation. But yes do join up!

Kinda implied by the fact that Ninjaiguana has agreed to GM, but I'll be there next year barring calamities between then and now!

A fair few of the guys I play with have been regretting not coming this year, so hopefully we'll be a full contingent of 5-10 people next time :D.

Excellent, the more the merrier (people, not calamaties). I've already even had some of the guests proposing to run particular games too. I can see the advantages to starting to organise this early. (Strange to think that it was only February of this year that I first suggested PaizoCon UK!)

I missed it this year, but I'm very interested in attending the next one. Got my copy of the book yesterday, and we're converting our 4E game (which I'm DMing) to PF, and soon our other weekly game too, so I may well be up for doing some DMing, but I'll have to let you know a little closer to the time (those pesky family commitments can get in the way sometimes :).

You've got your copy of the book already!? Jealous! I only got the email notification to say it was being shipped on the 11th so chances are it won't reach me until September.

I hope to get a few prospective GMs together (despite their family commitments!) and run some stuff using the Pathfinder rules (plus gives me a chance to see them GMing and playing). So if you're interested in GMIng any Pathfinder stuff in the UK - for PaizoCon UK or other events - then let me know and hopefully I can at least set up some slot zero games so more GMs get to play the scenarios.

I got it literally minutes after my FLGS got its delivery. Quite lucky too - the whole shop only got 3 copies since Esdevium only ordered a small amount of books. And now they can't any more since the first run is sold out.

But yeah, I'll get acquainted with the rules, join the PF society, and also head to GameCon in Manchester if I can. Anyone know what that's like?

I've not been to GameCon before but it looks like this year they are trying to get a big RPG section. Should be fun. They've asked me to organise Pathfinder Society games there and we'll have a Pathfinder room with probably 5 or so tables. Depending on how many GMs I recruit we should have plenty of games running. GMs get a ticket for another game slot as payment for GMing so people can run some games and play some too

Sounds familiar, we snuck into our FLGS and got copies as he was unwrapping them yesterday, he'd been sent 8 books (a third of what he ordered, and he'd triple-checked they'd be sending the right amount quite recently), needless to say he was quite pissed off as there were three of us and three more were already reserved, so he had a whole 2 left to put on the shelves and he'd already had a load of people express interest but not actually reserve...

You have a definite attendee here.

Slightly biased as Aston University is a perfect location for myself.

Qadira (Paizo Charter Superscriber)

Trying to stay on thread here...

I just popped out to Orc's Nest and they have started selling copies of the Pathfinder book. Totally failed my Will save and bought a copy. Just so that I can start getting to know the rules for running at PaizoCon UK and other conventions of course!

(Though now I have to be at work all afternoon knowing the book is sitting under my desk!)

Of course. I'll await my subscription copy, even though I know at least one and probably two of my players are getting their;s from Orcs today.

I'll almost certainly, barring calamity, be up for the next PaizoCon UK. Still not ready for con-level GMing, but I'll bring plenty of board games.

I'm keen to come again, it was a good con and the PF Society adventures were great.

As for running something of my own, I was wondering if anyone has any preferences between these;
1) ravenloft - horror
2) al-qadim - kind of legacy of fire sinbad style
3) light hearted bit of fun.

Whatever it is, I'll probably run it in Pathfinder rules and supply characters.

Cheers

Thankfully we get our stuff straight from suppliers so got it a day early with no need for will saves or such like.

Looking at whether I will be putting name down for GMing depending on your numbers.

I should make it..providing I can get my hols organised for that time of year again

Qadira (Paizo Charter Superscriber)

Hopefully announcing it this far in advance allows people to arrange attending PaizoCon UK fairly easily. Do let us know if you need any more information at this stage.

I will be there for sure, I love big cons but with GenCon being as far south in the UK as humanly possible I am unable to attend that. Should be a good year to butt up with the UK Games Expo.

Qadira (Paizo Charter Superscriber)

Just a thought - would there be interest in an interactive at PaizoCon UK?

Hi, I am from Germany but since we do not have a decent Con or a Pathfinder Society community, I think I will participate in your PaizoCon UK.
I would be interested only in Pathfinder Society scenarios and, of course, in an interactive.

Oooh... That's a tempting idea!

By interactive you mean larp right? But without people hitting each other with foam swords? The reason I ask is that I thought the whole idea of attending a role-playing game convention would be to interact with other people. Seems a bit pointless otherwise...

You'd be very welcome to come along. It is called PaizoCon UK but hopefully we can have a good level of European representation.

No foam swords. The idea is that you get to interact with a larger number of player characters than just the ones at the table of a regular game. The focus is on social interaction. Paizo ran some at the US PaizoCon and GenCon I believe.

Perhaps not. Maybe that could be part of Wintergreen's interactive....

I'd have to approve all the contestants and costumes though.

I will carry out a check on the broader range of B&B alternatives to on-site accomodation, at some point, but for now I have been able to confirm that at least Birmingham Central Backpackers (hostel) expect to be doing business still next July, and that they may even be taking reservations this far in advance (five per cent deposit on rooms, I think they quoted).

The sooner PaizoCon will be the better. I would be thrilled if you could arrange multiple cons. Maybe one around new year or feburary. While I can't afford a trip to GenCon Indy or GenCon Oz for just 4 days, RyanAir offers cheap flights to England. And the english speaking countries are the only ones able to organize the big fantastic Cons.

PaizoCon UK will just be a once a year affair and the date is fixed for mid-July 2010. But there are other UK cons where I will be ensuring there are Pathfinder Society games on offer. (Game '09 in Manchester in October, Conception 27th-31st January 2010 and I'm sure there will be others.)

Out of interest, who's planning to go to Game '09?

In terms of Pathfinder GMs, there's a handful of us going including myself and Rob Silk.

I'm hoping to go to Game 09, but given that I am about to start University, money may be too tight to allow it.

How far away is the venue of Game '09 from the airport. And is it easy to get there without a car?
