I've sent professor piehead an email to wake him up, he usually has a doze on a sunday afternoon as if he doesn't get his nap he brings his rusks back up at teatime.
He is, loathesomely, the master of the Con I must say.
I think the fine Mr Jacobs should come this year, as he was too woosy to join the ale-supping/owlbear wrestling/curry eating/pneumonia catching/logue insulting last year...

If you're interested in this, we'd, as GameCon, based in Manchester and held annually (this year is 17th and 18th of October) in the City Centre of Manchester at the Palace Hotel can help host this.
Just let us know at RPGManagerZZ@ZZgamecon.co.uk (please remove the ZZ's)
Thanks for the offer Peter. I'm thinking of trying to run this well before October though (end of June is most likely) but if I get a team together and this goes well perhaps we'd be up for running Pathfinder at GameCon too.

Of course, there's the curry mile in Manchester's Rusholme - about 1 mile from our venue :)
We'd certainly want to have PF at GameCon - I love the advanced 3.5 feel that is in it and really respect the designers. It can only be strong! I'm your servant - just let me know what you'd like to do.

I guess I'm very lucky to have a gaming wife.
However, my wife and I would come, but distance and baby commitments have priority... I don't think a bored baby in a big room of gamers would be appreciated.
Would've been nice to run something...

Then tell her it is in Manchester. Or Leeds. Or invite her to come with you and meet all those cool people you correspond on the Net with.
I would humbly suggest that the ideal place should have good road and rail connections. Leeds is OK, but Birmingham and Manchester are actually pretty good. Manchester is probably about 2 hours by train from london, so it isn't too bad. Due to its proximity to me, I'd personally prefer Birmingham, which has reasonable rail and excellent road connections.
Leeds has the M1 and the A1, but bother of those roads are not much fun at all. I think the trains are OK there, but have never tried so don't know. Anywhere too far north is pretty much out for anyone in the south and south-west of England - this might count out Manchester too.

Extremely expensive as a venue. I help run a comic convention based there and it's way too expensive for this. There are a number of hotels though that may have enough room.

No real news at present, which is why I haven't posted anything else. I've made contact with Aston University about it and I'm currently waiting for them to get back to me. They are very central and accessible as a location but I'm still undecided about the best date for it to be honest.

Have you guys thought about a date yet?

My first suggestion would be to find when term time finishes at Aston, then work around that, as it would be nice to game in privacy rather then having to cope with a lot of students and classes.
I personally would want it to be in July, as that's when my own term time finishes, but it's far more important to get a date that appeals to any of the guests we'd want there, like the various designers. Though, with a lack of GenCon UK this year, it seems the summer window for conventions is wide open (though perhaps not sustainable for the next few years)

what numbers are you expecting to come? I mean in wild guess what is the size you are going to cater for?
it is a shame here we dont have something similar to gen con in the US where they get 25k turning up. gencon uk in 2007 reported almost 1800 people.

I'm thinking this will be fairly small. From looking through this thread I figure we'd be certain to get about 30 people and I'm thinking a maximum of 50 people.

If you need anyone to go and make inquiries, or check things out in person, I live on the northern edge of Birmingham.
Aston University sprawls a bit and is something of a walk from the closest station, but it is well served by buses, and taxis are available in the city centre.
Whilst Aston University is adjacent to a canal, I am uncertain to what extent moorings are available in the immediate vicinity; The Typhoo Basin project is in hiatus, and other than that, I think that the closest might be either up in Gas Street or down at Cuckoo Wharf, at least a mile away, I would think.
For significant others, Birmingham has no shortage of shops, there are a handful of free museums/houses, and there are other museums/attractions which charge entrance fees such as the National Sea Life Centre.
I think that the closest Games shop would probably be Wayland's Forge in the city centre, which carries various roleplaying and board games, and has a modest Paizo line.
As others have observed, Birmingham city centre has no shortage of curry-houses, other eateries, or pubs. :D

I'm due in town a some point over the next few days, so I can try and investigate if they don't carry that information on the University website.
Edit:
Hmm. Aston University refers you to a broken link at Travel West Midlands. I'll try to make some inquiries.

No problem.
I was thinking of one or two rooms, rather than the whole place, but I have no idea of the cost.
I was really was just throwing it out there since it would make a change for people to come to me, instead of me going to them!
