The glass works sounds very cool. I think the whole family would be interested in that....

Jason, since you've been there before, how long would you say a good visit would take? Is it a 3 hour tour? Longer? Shorter?

Oh, I suppose it depends on how long you want to linger over any one piece, but I'd say 2-3 hours is a good ballpark.

One amusing room has little plastic sheets and markers so you can make little artworks on them that can be baked hard and turned into little magnets and what-not (basically it's kinda like do-it-yourself Shrinky Dinks for those of you old enough to know what I'm talking about). Fun for the kids and entertaining for grownups as well; I made a cute little one for the missus.

Tickets are pretty reasonable, and if you have one of those Entertainment coupon books you may be able to get a buy one/get one free deal. They have paper tickets for it in the Seattle-area Entertainment book, but I think even if you buy one from another area you may be able to print out-of-area coupons out through their website. Something to look into at least if you have an Entertainment book.

It will require a car, as it's down in Tacoma, about 30+ miles from the PaizoCon site, but if you're looking for a local attraction that's pretty unique and very interesting, I'd give it a thumbs up. I went there with the wife and kids last year and everybody liked it.

I think my wife and son would get a real kick out of it. As would I. Thanks for the advice!

I am not a brewer but I would certainly be cool with getting a hold of some Arkansas micro brews and mailing them ahead of me. I am assuming that since wine can be mailed that beer can as well. Is this correct? I hope so.

I. LOVE. This. Idea. Anyone volunteer to write it? And, once you do, will you let me know which minis will be needed for said event?

Of course, as the artist, I will not be involved in acting in this thing. AMUSE ME, PLEBIANS! :P

I have heard nothing on this, but I still think it is doable.

I'd love to make label images for your homebrews, sir, if you want. Just lemme know.

You got it! I am figuring out my canidates now. I have a very big problem with labels that run when water touches them. They are also bad when they are refrigerated and then sweat outside the fridge (Thunderin' Condensation). It would be nice to have labels that can be chilled and still look good after an ice cooler bath. Any ideas?

Most states forbid average citizens (as opposed to businesses, which follow different rules varying from state to state) from shipping alcohol, though it's a bit of a grey-market issue, since there's a vibrant beer-trade scene despite these issues. I did a quick check-up and it appears Arkansas does not allow alcohol to be shipped into the state by the average Joe, but shipping out of the state is apparently okay.

I'd recommend (very securely) packing some booze into an extra suitcase and putting it on the plane as check-in luggage. I've never been to Arkansas, but I've taken beer and wine with me out of both California and Oregon with no problems whatsoever, and my co-worker has done the same with those states plus Washington.

Barring that, you can attempt to ship it via FedEx or UPS, but it might get confiscated en route. The choice is yours.

I'll look into it. My labeling knowledge is limited, but I bet I can find something out. Worst-case scenario, I can just ask one of my brewing contacts, which shouldn't be too hard.

Don't forget, Hugo would love to do some labels, too. And if you ever do a non-Pathfinder themed doppelbock, I'd love to do an Ordinator label for it (doppelbocks traditionally have names ending in -ator; it's in honor of the first doppelbock, Salvator).

Hey in looking over local attractions, the Redhook Brewery is listed as close by.

How close is this and do they have good brew?

Red Hook is up in Woodinville, relatively close by. Yes, it is good beer. You can even get a tour there.

I'd also recommend the Black Raven Brewery in Redmond. It's got a small taproom right now, but their beers are excellent.

Mac n Jacks is somewhere around here too, but it's just a place where you can go in and fill your growlers, or a keg.

Hmmm. I'm sensing a Wednesday night event here.....

Hmm, relativity is a great thing.

What is this relativity thing?
Driving related?
Walking related?

Given that I will be flying in and taking a shuttle, I was wondering what the local attractions are. I understand there is a mall close, but you can goto a mall anywhere. The Seattle area is suppose to be know a little for its micro breweries.

Oh, definitely a drive. In Seattle, if it is not over 50 miles away, that's Relatively Close.

Exact distance from the hotel? 9.4 miles, if travelling up 405. So, that's about 15-20 minutes of driving. CLOSE.

The Seattle microbreweries you are thinking of are mostly IN Seattle.

The one that is right down the street from me is Black Raven Brewery.

Right around Bellevue and within walking distance? Yeah, you are looking at Bellevue Square for the mall. There's a Rock Bottom Brewery. And the Tap Room, but, geez, that's an upscale suit and tie place.

If you are here on Thursday night, be sure to join us at the Crab Pot. You should be able to catch a ride with someone!

Darn wish I could get off work on Thursday/Friday. But our school is in session for another week, and it would be very frowned upon for the teacher to be "sick" the week before finals! :)

As it is, I'm running out of the school on Friday to make the plane to be there Friday night.

I'll be starting a "who wants to share a ride from the airport thread soon"

Have fun at the Thurs Meet and Eat!

What about the after hours Music Jam? That was very cool last year. A repeat would be excellent, though we may want to run with a 30 second sample of all tracks to keep from running until 4am. ;)

Erik? Erik? Mr. Mona??? ;)

2 first time attendee questions:

What is the music jam?

Is there anywhere the late arrivers are planning on meeting for a drink? Like my DH said, he's allergic to seafood and we can't even walk into the restaurant. I'm hoping that late arrivals tend to go somplace for a drink/late meal so we can still get the chance to meet up with people.

Looks like I'll be landing in Seattle around 5:30, so upgrade my maybe to a probably.

Colter and I missed Fight Club last year due to us sitting at Red Hook for 5 hours straight. It was an easy drive and was great food and beer, we did the tour very intoxicated and are looking forward to going back there again this year or trying to find another brewery to go to. We would be down with going with a group to any of the brewery's. If we are planning a Wed night thing please let us know so that we can edit our room reservations for a day earlier

Last year folks who were interested burned CDs with four tracks and we spent two or three hours one night beginning at midnight listening to the tracks (though by the end we were running with listening to the first minute of the track). Some truly great tunes out there.

the actual name of the event was the Paizocon Mix Challenge.

The Music Jam he's talking about was an "after hours" beer-friendly music listening party where we all brought four songs in an attempt to smash together a representative sample of music we thought others should know about. A sort of musical zeitgeist of the community. It was altogether pretty great, actually, but the whole thing was a bit of a grind. I think it took us until after 2:00 before we even hit on the idea of not listening to every song.

I still listen to a mix I made of some favorites from last year's party, and if I can carve out the time I'll probably burn it to a disk for clandestine circulation at the convention.

I would like to do it again, and have been thinking about it a lot lately. I think it had a cool vibe from being after the banquet, but I was really exhausted by the end of it. I think I'll be staying at the hotel this year, so at least I won't need to drive back (which will mean more home brew for me!).

I really do think we'll sell out, and that means TWICE the attendees of last year. I think this year we might have to limit it to one song per person, lest we find ourselves jamming until the next morning. Which would be cool, but I need at least some of that energy to GAME! :)

Yes, my spidey sense is saying the same thing.

Andoran (Pathfinder Adventure Path Charter Subscriber; Roleplaying Game, Campaign Setting, Companion, Tales, Battles Case, GameMastery Maps Subscriber)

i think with the music we also might just listen to the first minute if we have alot of people, unless of course the song kicks so much sonic ass that we have to complete it!

Wow, I am late to this thread for sure. Zux! Looking forward to the get together this year. I am also have a room reserved and was going to offer to assist with supplies for the beverages. I can start gathering various things now if there are requests!

Also will be looking for another game of Werewolf one of the nights. I don't even know how many hours the game went last time. Drunken fun for all!

Yes, my goal is to get kicked out of the hotel before the convention. That should make a good story.

I just booked my flight and my room and purchased my badge and banquet tickets! I'm in, this year! Woohoo!

Now...as long as the ship's schedule doesn't change. ::crosses fingers::

This is shaping up to be the best Father's Day present I've ever received!

I'm looking forward to meeting you folks in person, at last.

Cheliax (Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, Adventure Path, Campaign Setting, Companion, Modules Subscriber)

You coming Paris?! Awesome!

Andoran (Paizo Charter Superscriber, Pathfinder Battles Case Subscriber)

Yep. I'm really excited to finally meet you guys. I won't get there until Friday night, but I'm all in until Sunday evening. (With the exception of having breakfast one morning with my good friend Angel Leigh McCoy, who I haven't seen in person in WAY too long.)

Any chance I'll be able to share a meal with you and Liz, Hugo? (Aside from the banquet, that is.) At a minimum, I'd like to buy you both a drink or three...or whatever. The same goes for you, Zux! ;)

I hope so, Adam. I've been really bummed about missing the first two. I'm really grateful to my wife for taking care of the kids so I can come up and hang out for the weekend.

And now for something completely unrelated to the above stuff:
I am gonna bring about ten older Pathfinder Society scenarios and be running them off hours. I will also be able to report right after the games, so if anybody needs an exp or two during the course of the weekend, look me up. If anybody wants to set up a late night game ahead of time, just let me know.

Very cool of you...I'm very much up for a late game...I missed a number of the season #0 mods...#18, #21, #22, #26, #27, and #28.

Thanks!

Thanks for the recommendation Jason!
