This is the official call for volunteers for PAIZOCON 2009! Volunteers will receive a handsome volunteer package of product in addition to the attendee bag o' goodies. (And I mean HANDSOME! As in, we only had to drive it 3 miles from our warehouse HANDSOME. Like, we're really close to the show so we can bring a metric buttload of stuff HANDSOME.)
Look through the list below and email me the games/slots you can volunteer for!
Here's where we need help:
Friday 12:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M.
Need: none! thanks!
Friday 7:00 P.M. to 11:00 P.M.
Need: none! thanks!
Saturday 8:00 AM to 12:00 P.M.
Need: none! thanks!
Saturday 1:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M.
Need: none! thanks!
Sunday 8:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M.
Need: none! thanks!
There are 5 slots in which we need volunteer assistance. In order to get the goody bag mentioned above, you need to volunteer for a minimum of 2. The more volunteers I get for these events, the more events we can run. So please take some time to run one or two events and help Paizo and the Pathfinder Society make this the best PAIZOCON possible!
We hope to have the event schedule live for sign-ups very soon. Details forthcoming.
At this time we're only seeking volunteers from those who have purchased a badge and plan to attend the show.
All volunteers can email me: josh@paizo.com with the subject line PAIZOCON Volunteer.
How "good" does one have to be as a DM to run a game? I do a lot of DMing at home, but I don't know if I'd be qualified to run a game at a con. (Cue neurotic worrying about ruining someone's con with a bad game experience)

Ditto. Been DMing since 1983 for my home games, but never DM'd a con game (and only played in one once in 2001).
If you are enthusiastic and prepared, it will go ok.
Remember that all of the players are there to have fun, and the players at this con are the people on these boards, so they are going to be good folks.
Don't be shy! Get out there and game! I had a blast at GenCon last year GMing for the PFS premiere. Just read your materials and be ready when the players throw you a curveball. :)
I'm trying to organize Slot 0's for the local (Seattle-area) volunteer GM's. See my thread in the Pathfinder Lodge forum. The soonest we can get the mod's is June 1st.
Also, I should note that I need more volunteers! I was hoping for more on the initial wave than what I got. Help me help you! Volunteer for one or more slots and help make PAIZOCON an awesome event. :-)
Signed up for a second session. Early morning on Saturday--no one will be awake enough to notice how bad a DM I am. :)

I read through the Pathfinder Society guide to organized play and have a couple of questions. To run a game, does the DM need sign up as a member? Will these games be run using the D&D 3.5 rules or the Pathfinder RPG beta rules (it said Season 1 will use Pathfinder but that hasn't started yet, right)?

I have a lot of experience with running interactives for a "different international DnD campaign" in Florida. The whole family is flying in from Florida for the con, and volunteering makes this even better.
I am one of those sick puppies who likes to pitch in.

Hello.
I have been DMing and playing DND since 1978.
Including Chainmail and every DnD update since then.
I just got my group into 3.75 and they love it.
Think I love it more. I also judged Necronomican
in Tampa Florida and other big games / Cons in
other states. Anyone for any reason can get back
to me at krool357@yahoo.com for my help and advice
or for maybe my volunteer services I can provide.
After a huge surge in volunteers (thanks, email!) I've updated our needs. We need more alternates now than full-time GMs. Alternates may or may not have to run an event, but should be prepared to do so. Regardless of whether or not they're needed, alternates still get phat l00ts. Keep 'em coming!
I'm happy to help out in anyway I can. Just let me know how.

Hi Josh,
I'd don't want to sign up for another definite game but you can put me down as an alternate GM for the Saturday afternoon session if you still need alternates. Or, if it's better for you...you could switch my morning session to the afternoon and put me down as an alternate in the morning (I just notice that you're short of GMs in the afternoon but not in the morning).
Looking forward to finding out about the scenarios!
Best,
M
Will they be new scenarios or currently existing ones?
We'll be officially running the June scenarios at PAIZOCON. If folks want to run older scenarios in the open gaming area, they are more than welcome to! :-)

Send me this in an email so I have your proper info. Thanks!

Josh,
When is the list of events going to be posted? I'd like to volunteer to GM, but I'd also like to schedule around things I'd like to be doing.
Yes, two of them are. Here are the four being run:
#23 Tide of Morning, Tier 1-5
#24 The Decline of Glory, Tier 1-7
#25 Hands of the Muted God, Tier 5-9
#26 Lost at Bitter End, Tier 7-11
Wow. Folks already have 7th level characters! I don't know anyone with anything higher than 3rd.
Is there a "low level" track being offered on the schedule? Or should those of us who aren't eligible for the higher tiers plan on migrating to the Open Play Area after we have played our two mod's?
