But seriously ... buy Yoda stock. Paypal and all that.

Am I the only one who finds that in these horrible economic times when any of us would love to go to Paizocon that someone feels the need to come, and solicit financial support on this website to get the money to go to something the vast majority of us can't afford but would kill to do?

I haven't had a vacation in 9 years. I have to use virtually ever day I get off in a year taking care of sick kids or working anyway to support my family. But I'm not on this site begging strangers for money so I can go have fun. This thread bothers me more than just a little. It's like having someone sit outside your favorite game shop with a cup and a sign saying "please donate money for game supplies" while I work my tail off to be able to afford the stuff I am going to get.

There is a time honored way to get the money to do the things you want in life without shamless begging. It's called working for it. Even my 7 year old knows she has to do her chores to get her small allowance that she saves to buy things she wants. Absolutely pathetic.

Brent, levity in tough times! Bring it on.

Yoda8MyHead said
"You and me both! I made the initial post more to get other poor people to commiserate with me, but the same generosity that has been shown in this community reared its head again. I didn't expect anyone to actually do it. . ."

It's OK. No, it's good. Actually, it's great fun!

Back to the original topic: Send Yoda8MyHead to Paizocon!!

Couldn't agree more here, Brent. Shameless. Boorish. These words come to mind. Given that he is an able bodied, educated adult, one has to wonder at what age the young yoda looked into the mirror and decided, "When I grow up I want to be a beggar." Pathetic is right.

Perhaps yoda is just channeling his Runelord of Sloth alter ego. One hopes he will rediscover his self-respect and snap out of it.

Ultimately the undeniable generosity of members of this board is better directed at those in real need in these troubled economic times.

You two did see the earlier post by the OP regarding this, right?

Y'know, the part where he thought he'd see about getting empathatic "yeah it stinks we can't go", and instead had the pleasant surprise of actually receiving donations?

Just sayin'...

Let's not take our eye off the ball.

The proven generosity of members of this board is not at issue.

The propriety of setting up a PayPal account, soliciting donations, and then accepting them is. Remember, these donations are not solicited so yoda can pay his mortgage or medical bills. It's so he can attend a Con.

Yoda has put himself out in public as a beggar. He therefore should expect to elicit reactions across the entire spectrum, from support to censure. Given his able-bodied, gainfully employed status in these times of genuine economic hardship, my reaction must incline toward the later.

Just clarifyin'...

I think that's pretty much my perspective on this - he *should* expect a variety of reactions. Mine is support, others are censure, and I don't think Yoda has a problem with that.

As someone first introduced to PFS by the generous Yoda8, and someone who knows he donates all kinds of time to spread the love and joy of PFS to the masses of NYC via various meetups and other groups. It saddens me to see people jump on him b/c he wants to go to a CON which we all wish we could attend and DARED to mention it in a public forum.

Go after it Yoda! Check's in the mail. Not much but I hope you can make some use of it. May the force be with you 'n stuff!

P.S. I will need that first born by C.O.B. Friday. . . . get crackin'

I just wonder if we have our eye on the right ball. I have to ask however - what's your stake in all this? Outrage? Disgust? Or is there some other need, Torc? I mean, you've already stated your stance, let things go for a few days, and then out of the clear blue reposted more of the same.

It will be sent to me! I need it more than Yoda, who secretly charges a penny every time somebody logs into the wiki...

*plots to take over yoda's fund raising*

IconoclasticScream wrote:

Of course. It's all still in the PayPal account, nothing moved to real banks. And PayPal allows full refunds within 60 days of transaction. Most of the people who have sent money have been people I know through the boards or chats, or even real life who could simply ask for a refund if they changed their minds. They're all friends.

Hugo Solis wrote:

Under the newly released Community Use Policy, the wiki is not allowed to charge any money. I don't think Wikia's terms of service allow it either. And all the money from the ads on there go straight to wikia, as they're the ones who place them there and host the site. But I bet you could totally bill people for your dA page.

But by all means, who am I to beg alone? I welcome your company. Let's all degrade ourselves together. There's no one else I'd rather raise the ire of the community with than you, Hugo. Can you draw me a nice picture on my sandwichboard sign?

Making that alias directly toward this point make me think of you as the pathetic one. And the same with the words shameless and boorish. In this thread, they would apply more to you than they would to yoda.

I am only the figment of a fun house mirror, reflecting the absurdity of that which is in front of me.

When yoda looks, he sees a stooped and distorted figure holding a tin cup.

When you look, what do you see?

I would think this would fit under the not being a jerk clause.

As for Yoda I applaud his ingenuity and I don't really see any beggar connection at all.

Taldor (Pathfinder Adventure Path Subscriber)

shaw I just wish I had the will to do it, I can't go because from FL it would cost me somewhere in the $600 range and that's just not an acceptable expense when my wife couldn't go to new york to dance because it was too expensive and I'm in between vehicles because someone decided patience wasn't worth it and pulled in front of me when I had the right of way... I just can't build myself up to ask for donations even in jest because I really would take the money. Still showing outrage or disgust over it seems like a waste of my otherwise busy life. I mean the Octa-mom deserves it more than yoda8myhead.

Doesn't she have corporate sponsorship or something now? I'm sure her interview fee alone could pay for her and her dozen kids to fly to Paizocon five times or more.

Kevin Mack wrote:

When you extend your hand toward another, rotate the palm skyward, and ask that the other give you money for no other reason than you asked for it, it's called begging. You could even look it up in one of my books. I'll even bet that one of my books is installed on the shiny computer thingy you're using...

In the UK if you're playing a violin and happen to have an empty case in front of you for any donations, that's not begging but being a street-entertainer or a busker; and as master of one of the Paizo Wikipedias, Yoda seems to fit more into that category to me than that of a beggar. He provides a service valued by some members of the Paizo community, and is requesting a little recognition/support at this point.

Exactly maybe mr touctheorc should go and look up the webster on his computer.

I appreciate everyone coming to my defense here, but it's not needed. Stay your rage, friends, for I fear it will lead us all down a road we wish not to travel. I have tried to email TorctheOrc and his various sock puppets to discuss these issues in a private and civilized manner, but his email seems to be inactive. In any case, I apologize that a personal issue between myself and fellow player has tainted this forum. Nothing to see here. These are not the droids you're looking for.

Woo! Yoda8myhead's Goin' to washington! Kikai13 and I will see you there.
