Can anyone point me to a good website for info on the running scene in the Bellevue area? I think it would be pretty cool to get in a 5k one of the mornings of PaizoCon 2010. Don't get me wrong, there is nothing magical about this guy running, but I also think it would be great if there was a whole group from the convention doing it. Maybe it could be a scheduled event. PaizoCon 2010 5k t-shirts anyone?

Sounds awesome to me,maybe we could charge a decent entry fee and raise some money for a local Bellvue charity.

Try Run.com. Gives plausible routes around the suburb cities around here.

If you try Redmond, the Sammamish River Trail is a pretty nice way to go.

While I will happily use run.com if my other options dry up, I am actually hoping for an organized event. Here in central Arkansas arkansasrunner.com provides me with a full schedule of events and sometimes even maps of the races though this isn't near as important.

My secondary hope for this thread is that it will reveal if Paizo actually has a fair amount of runners among their fans. Maybe there will be enough for a Paizocon 5k to become a reality.

Might be the first game convention with a 5k as an event.

Tam.

I can't speak for the rest of the con attendees, but I only run for fear of my life or when I'm late for something important.

If you can find enough people who'd rather beat feet than roll dice during their time at the con, then more power to you. Me, I go to gaming conventions to game, not pound three miles of pavement. I can tell you from taking walks around looking at shops/eateries that pedestrian crossing at the nearby intersections is insane; Bellevue was not designed with pedestrians in mind.

I'd do a 5k Friday morning perhaps, or maybe Sunday, depending on what gets scheduled when.

A 5k run would be an option for most attendees either before or after the con, not during the regular schedule. Most gamers I have seen would only run if they were headed to the fridge or for the last piece of pizza. A few gamers I have seen at the convention would only run if they were being chased by soap.

I crack myself up.

Have fun with the run though!

I can see the need to keep it from getting in the way of traditional convention activities, and I would easily stay an extra day or come early if this was taking place.

The observation that most gamers tend to be out of shape absolutely correct. I am still pretty out of shape. There, of course, is no reason this has to stay the case for me or anyone else. If motivated, 4.5 months would be enough time for most people to get ready for their first 5k. We're not talking land speed records here.

For companies like Piazo to encourage gamers to be healthy seems like a no brainer to me.

I'm no toned and svelte athlete myself, and if people want to get together and run at PaizoCon, awesome, more power to them.

That said, I won't be too broken up if Paizo doesn't push this. I get preached to enough about heath and exercise at work, and virtually everywhere else I go.

It's nice that my chosen form of entertainment leaves me alone and lets me play.

I am happy that the people who wouldn't participate in this kind of event are chiming in. But I have to admit that I am a little more interested in, and hoping for, responses from people who might be.

I'll run it! 5k really doesn't faze me, and remember that you don't actually have to run, a light jog will get you all the way to the end in about 30 minutes or so. Then again, I run 5 miles twice a week, so I'm not exactly an accurate representation of most PNP gamers.

~sniffs at my armpits~ Hey! I resemble that remark! ~GRINS~ I would not be able to run 5k, but I would be more than willing to walk that distance or more. My mutt reguarly takes me for 3 to 5 mile hikes at least twice a week.

Is it wrong that my first thought upon reading the first post was Shadowrun?

Edit - Crap! I forgot that I can't make PaizoCon 2010. ~sighs~ Have fun you all!

I'd be up for it definitely!
The Northwest Runner has a listing of events: http://www.nwrunner.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&i d=58&Itemid=37
I looked at other places and there doesn't seem to be any events the weekend of Paizo Con. The weekend after is a Rock ‘n’ Roll Seattle Marathon* & Half Marathon which I heard is fun.

OMG, first post! Welcome! ;-)

Thanks Marpie. I'll check it out. Whether I find an organized event or not I will still run one of the mornings or get in on the geo-caching and hiking mentioned in another thread.

Tam

Depending on the time/day this is--I'm totally up for it. I'd love to run with fellow paizo fans! Maybe we could do a donation thing or something?

Bellefields Nature Park and Mercer Slough aren't too far from the hotel. I believe that both of these have running trails.

Or we could just run back and forth along the edge of I-5.

...yikes, I said "we". Not sure how realistic that is.
