After we finished and published the design as shown here, we played several games and found that there can be quite a bit of strategy aside from the luck of the draw -- overall, we found that the better player usually wins regardless of their hand. The winner usually plays more offensively, setting up possible runs while trying to proactively claim any spaces that might prove beneficial to their opponent. Consistently good card draws certainly does help, of course, but I've found that the more cutthroat player usually wins. And the game can get pretty mean with three players.
Our primary goal was trying to design something a little different for Stonehenge, and something that could be played with two players, unlike the five games that come with the original ruleset. I'm glad that you wrote the review, even with the low rating -- if you get the time, try the game a few more times and let me know if you have any questions. Thanks!
