I am curious. I wanted to get an avatar pic of myself on here. I was curious how I could do that.

The website is not currently set up for custom avatars.

It is on The Great Eye's list of things to do, but it's a long list and this is not near the top.

You can't upload avatars here.

Go to your account page and you can select an avatar from the list provided. There are no Custom avatars at Paizo, and it helps keep the boards clean, and help you remember who people are, because the avatar changes less often.

The website is not designed to permit custom avatars. You must select from one of the (many) pre-made avatars in your 'My Account' page.

Ok. I didn't happen to see where to do that. All I see is none.

You have to click on 'My Account' and then click on the 'Messageboard Settings' heading to get to avatar selection.

You'll need to go one step further than Ross suggested, actually. You can select your avatar under your Messageboard Settings.

Have fun! :)

Mind you, I use the same avatar on every board as it's symbolic and associated with my username (I mark paper models with it, and music videos and other things I produce). So there is a certain amount of "should we take into account users that have an online presence and identity"?

We'll likely allow custom avatars at some point. But there are many more things ahead of that on our to-do list.

Please don't! I can go to other message boards and get my fill of jiggly parts and spastic morbidly obese avatars.

I agree. Normally a "no custom avatars" is just kind of confining, but Paizo's catalog of avatars is sufficiently robust that there's no major issues.

Of course, it would be nice if Important People had unique avatars, like Mr. Lacefield has. There's a sort of mental assumption that a post by the fiendish T-Rex is from James Jacobs, and that can be confusing to readers (and possibly unfair to the three or so other folks with fiendish t-rex avatars).

(The avatar catalog has also given me the unusual experience of seeing a post by somebody else with the old Kenku avatar and going "Wait, I don't remember posting in this thread...")

Don't worry. The day paizo.com allows animated avatars is the day after I was hit by a bus.

And we'll have some sort of flagging mechanism by which you'll be able to notify us of inappropriate imagery.

I'd suggest plastic surgery to look more like your avatar, but that's too silly.

Well according to all the stories, you already look like your avatar, Heathy.

Or like this.

I like custom avatars, it makes you unique. There are many people here that have the same avatars. I picked this one because it had the fewest other people using it. (Not because I like it...)
I can wait until we can post our own.
I also agree that the tasteless avatars have no place here. It will be good to be able to 'report' them...

I also see custom avatars as a way to show off some drawings done by a friend of mine (the more exposure he gets the better, then he might be able to pursue his dream of drawing for a living). :-D

Why not just post a topic in off-topic like "Hey, Come Take a Look at my Friend's Art!" I'm pretty sure you're allowed to.

I could do that, but the only thing we have online right now are some really old drawings of his. We're working on building a proper portfolio and scanning some of his newest drawings.
