I was just searching the PFRPG Beta rules for the word "Slam" to find out how a slam attack differs from a standard attack and I only saw references to Slam Shield.
Does anyone know where (what page) the slam attack is described? Or, is it only described in the 3.5 ruleset? If so, I couldn't find an index entry in the PHB or DMG for "Slam" either.
Or, is there any difference at all? Maybe "Slam" is just a word that describes a standard attack that does it's 1dX damage by thumping you with something big.
I'm pretty sure Slam attacks are described in the 3.5 Monster Manual. That wouldn't be in the Beta because (1) it focused on the PH and DMG rules, and (2) focused on the changes from 3.5.
Sean's correct. We DO define what all the natural attacks (from slam to sting to bite to wing) are in the final book, but we didn't have space in the Beta to do so.
So the original is in the Monster Manual!? That would be why I couldn't find it in the PHB or DMG. The one place I didn't look and there it is. Oh well.
Thanks for the help.

I always picture it as that two-armed fist attack that James Kirk does. You know the one I mean. ;)
Your and me both, brotha. Anytime a monster delivers a slam attack to one of my players, I always tell them they got "Kirk punched."
I like to add some flavor to Slam Attacks. Sometimes it's just plain old fashioned fisticuffs and pummeling. Other times it may be a head butt or a kick or even a body check.
I love the idea of a mummy grabbing the elf wizard by the shoulders, head butting him and breathing noxious fumes into his face as his slam attack and to spread the mummy rot. That seems so much more satisfying than "He hits you with a slam attack and make your save vs mummy rot."
Or maybe a construct can grab the elf wizard by the neck and bash him into the walls, floor and ceiling as his slam attack. That is just so much cooler, and I expect would get most PCs more heated and involved in the fight.
I always think of those critters from the original doom games, who run up to you and hit you over the whole body with their freakishly long, clawed hands.
