Interesting stuff. I opened my PDF of this adventure and followed along as best I could.

It would seem to me (I'm taking notes - my players need an object from the depths of this adventure and will probably go through it soon) that using Arley to trigger the Terrible Iron Golem was a bit of a mistake as the players certainly could not beat Arley and the Terrible Iron Golem together. This sort of reduces the impact of the Iron Golem as it becomes something thats both a 'trap' and also a minion of Arley the Weaver. Since the Terrible Iron Golem is pretty much a once only encounter it might be more entertaining to have the players get in an out and out brawl with the thing when they start by thinking they can beat it. Sets the stage a well, when they almost inevitably get trounced in a tough fight, that there are things in this dungeon simply beyond them.

To bad the players saw through the tapestry trap - thats a fun one. Looks like you had a ball with the Gnoll Priestess. Your Blog partly convinces me of something I felt when I first read the adventure. The 2nd level is a bit of a sleeper.

Day Tripper,

My PCs were way too cautious and paranoid to go anywhere near the golem. They thought that the big metal statue might just stand-up and attack them if they went anywhere near it (imagine that!) So when the Iron Golem was triggered by Arely luring them onto the steps, it still had its effect. Made more so by Arley being close to death at this point. An added bonus of this was that it established Arley as a cunning and dangerous enemy to be hunted down. They're still looking for him now! They just avoid the golem now but every now and then they consider going back to attack it, but they haven't the inclination and aren't too sure whether they could still beat it even with preparation.

The tapestry trap is so dangerous that I'm actually glad they didn't trigger it - a save or die TPK would have left a very bitter taste in the mouth for all concerned.

The gnoll priestess is great and they're just about to battle her again - this time with some help...

The 2nd is a bit sparse, particularly if you make the denizens react to incursions but there are still some intriguing parts - such as the shadow vault. However, this should lull PCs into a false sense of security for when they annoy the dwellers below...

Day Tripper,

New installment added to the blog.

Whatever happened to this campaign? Is it still ongoing?

Still going on. We just had a bit of a break over summer. I have a new installment to add, just not written it up yet - it was a bit of an epic battle against Yug-Anark... But she still lives :)

Looks like this campaign died out. Rather unfortunate. I'd love to check it out as I am just preparing to run my second session of Maure Castle and would love to check out some other DMs experiences.

Anyone know of something similar that has progressed further?.

Are you going to post a journal for your group? Because Id read it. Its cool to see how others roll with this stuff and what new twists they add.

Unfortunately its looking much less likely this will ever turn into a real blog. I spend all of my DM time trying to stay a few steps ahead of my players and have no time left over to Blog this. Its amazing how much work one has to put in to run high level adventures really.

Have one of your players do it, then. Give 'em an extra 5% XP or something like that :D

Allan.
