Hmmm... Graymalkin Academy... surely a tip of the hat to a certain school for gifted youngsters?

Can I expect other references to the children of the atom next issue or am I way off base on this one? It’s just that after the recent adventure in Dungeon with a Batman theme I’m suspicious. Can’t wait to see what happens in # 140!

Will there be a weather controlling sorceress, a feral berserker samurai, a red haired psionic maiden and a frosty elemental caster? :)

Y'know, I was thinking the EXACT same thing... :-)

And here I was thinking it was Hogwarts...

Me too. I was all ready to break out my Gryffindor scarf while I read the adventure... :\

I imagine no one will believe me when I say this, but I honestly wasn't thinking of Hogwarts or Harry when I wrote the adventure. A lot of the inspiration came from an all-wizard campaign I did back in 1990 where the characters started out at the wizard's academy and evolved from that point.

Of course, it is entirely possible that the Harry Potter milieu crept into my subconscious and influenced the work, without me giving much thought as to where the ideas originated...

But Greymalkin is a conscious X-men reference... right?

Not quite. A graymalkin refers to a witches' familiar, more specifically a cat. It was appropriated for use in the comics, but that's not it's original usage.

Greymalkin was the name of one of the three witches' familiars in Macbeth (first scene).

In the X-men comics the address of Xavier’s school for the gifted is Greymalkin Drive, Salem Centre. A refuge and training area for those with special powers.

I thought maybe (what with the name and school factors) this Greymalkin academy for people with arcane talents (sorcerors are born with powers or come into them at puberty etc) would be kind of like a D&D take on 'mutants' going somewhere to learn and understand their gifts.

Is there a Menace Chamber?
