Following the first course of the banquet, Zeech commands the Fabler to tell a tale. The Fabler responds by telling a story about a dryad, a wealthy merchant and the dryad's revenge on the merchant. Did anyone actually come up with a humorous story for this to tell to your players? If so, would you be willing to share it with those of us who are about to run Prince of Redhand?
So, out of all the very creative people on this board, nobody came up with an actual tale for the Fabler to tale? I find that disappointing... :)
I felt kind of guilty telling my players only the basis of a story, but I wasn't sure how well telling them an actual story would go over. I mean, they're there to play, not to listen to me talk.
I'll be running this adventure soon, so I'm interested in such stories as well.
I might come up with a short tale for him to tell if I get a chance before running it; if so, I'll try to make it appropriately ominous.
Ominous Fabler spoiler:
Spoiler:
Since the Fabler has some sinister connection to a later adventure, I'll be tempted to have his story reflect some circumstance that will be relevant to that adventure, so that the PCs can be appropriately creeped out when the Ominous Fabler's tale starts to come true around them. Perhaps it will involve giants and dragons, or a dragonslayer who tracks his quarry to a distant lair, only to find the dragon already dead, but even deadlier than ever...
"And so did the beast, with its hollow eyes of flame, rain destruction down upon our hero. His roar was the sound of all dead things, and in his breath lay the scent of sweet damnation.
In the end, the bones of our brave hero joined the mountain of those who came before, and on this bed of broken hope does the wyrm still perch today, as it waits, patient and quiet as a tomb, for the next in a line of hapless fools to come walking towards their doom."
I haven't decided how much to give away, though; I'll probably try to keep it subtler than that.
Why not let the Fablers tale be played out by the PCs? Let them take the place of a few pregenerated characters- fae trapped by trolls and trying to get out? Let them play through a few obstacles, and if they die, let them play the opponents of the original replacement characters? Give RP XP as needed.

That's not really what I was looking for. Thanks for the idea, though.
