Below is a message I posted in the Dungeon general area.

But first, I have to wonder WHY Dungeon Magazine has to suffer in order for Paizo to put out a $60 hardcover book compiling the Shackled City adventure path series.

Not that I am a big fan of White Dwarf or Games Workshop products, but when a new book or game comes out, White Dwarf does not suffer in content.

I realize this is comparing a Fiji apple to a Golden Delicious apple, but come on -- why should Dungeon suffer for the sake of another product?

Small, dedicated staff...I can hear it now.

I don't mean to sound so bitter, but I came back to Dungeon expecting so much more.

=========================================================

I've been away from Dragon for about 6 months now.

When I read in Dragon issue 333 about the new Age of Worms adventure path campaign starting up in Dungeon issue 124, which would have CONVERSIONS FOR THE FORGOTTEN REALMS for the adventure and setting, I made it a point to search out that issue of Dungeon.

Now I find I need to buy issue 125 for the conversion and another Backdrop installment.

Yet again, another feature promised and promoted that did not surface.

PLEASE, to whoever is responsible for making the "coming next issue" and similar claims: DON'T make claims you're not sure will be in a given issue.

I really looked forward to issue 124, but my enjoyment is subdued over the lack of coversion for the FR setting which was promised. (And please, no comments about "a good DM is able to make his own coversions".)

It also seems that the three part Vampires of Waterdeep adventure series, which was also promised to start in issue 125 (as per Dragon 333) has been delayed.

Sheesh!

(Pathfinder Campaign Setting Charter Superscriber)

AFAIK the conversion for FR is in the backdrop of #124.

Dude, Email me at Patman21967@comcast.net, and i will send you the conversion notes. They are part of the web enhancement for issue 124, which I have saved!!!

Good gaming,
Patrick ( 4 too many Smithwicks tonight )

Or you can just go here:

http://paizo.com/dungeon/resources/downloads

And get them like everyone else did.

On the note of not promoting something they're not sure will be in next issue... a lot can happen in 30 days. Writers cancel, long-awaited articles come in, schedules shift... I get just as miffed as the next guy when a promised article doesn't show... but I know there's a reason for it. As much as they seem to be God-like, we have to remember they're just human, and so are the people writing the articles. If they only promoted the things they had already in thier hands, the "coming next month" section would be a little barren.

Of course, they could always change it to "what we think should probably be coming in next month's issue"... but that's a little long-winded. ;)

We need to give our "Dungeon" team a rest. The magazine has made huge leaps and bounds in the past year. These guys are putting their heart and soul and countless hours into this magazine. I give props to the whole team over at Paizo. Though, the magazine is not always perfect, they put every effort imanginable in creating a monthly masterpiece. A year ago I almost let my subscription lapse, now I look forward to Dungeon even more than I do Dragon (although, also quite excellent). We really need to be grateful for how hard these guys and gals work over at Paizo. Constructive criticism is one thing because there is always room for improvement, but the out-right complaining, just to complain, really needs to stop.

I understand all the factors you list, but again, they should only go with what they are SURE is coming up. Other publishers and editors (myself included) work from that rule. I just wish Paizo would as well.

THANKS to all who replied with the help and links.

If the conversion notes are in issue 124, I have yet to find them. Dang new backgrounds/layout still leaves my eyes swimming sometimes. I miss the crisp black and white pages, though the color pages are nicer to look at (if not looking for details).

I'll go check the link. Thanks again.

The conversion notes are in the issue 124 Download at the link I supplied above. Somewhere in the middle of the PDF, if I recall.

Thanks again for the link.

:)

I just got Dungeon issue 125 and appreciate Erik's editorial where he tells us about the soon-to-come Overload and other aspects of Age of Worms.

Man, I may have to subscribe soon!

(but I love to support my little local gaming store...)
