The gang might have already chosen a cover to knock our socks off, but still, it won't harm to try. What do you want the cover of the final issue of Dragon to look like?

• An homage to Dragon #1, with that "green" dragon done by Todd Lockwood.
  
• The Dragon staff as the iconic D&D characters (Jozan, Lidda, etc.)
  
• The Dragon staff as the core Greyhawk deities (Boccob, Wee Jas, etc.)
  
• A portrait of Bahamut and Tiamat together. Yikes!
  
• A portrait of the entire draconic pantheon (including Sardior please - his very first incarnation was in Dragon #37) presided over by Io.
  
• A collection of thumbnails of all Dragon covers.

Pathfinder (or D&D) iconics staning over a tobmstone with "Dragon Magazine" as the name, dates of publication.

I like the collection of thumbnail images of covers. You probably couldn't fit all of them, but if you picked the biggest most influential/famous issues and used them, you could get it to work.

Though I would probably want to see what will be in 359 before I make a vote on what the cover should be.

Pathfinder (or D&D) iconics standing over a tombstone with "Dragon Magazine" as the name, dates of publication.

I was going to suggest a gatefold cover (ala one of the earlier issues before Paizo that I can't seem to find in my collection to quote the # atm)with a heap of the D&D World Specific Iconics (eg. Mordenkainen, Elminster, Drizzt, Tanis, Raistlin, The Lord of Blades, Vol, etc...) standing together.

IIRC, Larry Elmore (squee!) is doing the final Dragon cover. I have no doubt that whatever he comes up with will be spectacular.

That being said, I'd like to see him redo the Dragon vs Barbarian that was on the cover of the Red Books (since that piece was his to begin with).

I think I'd like to have both--maybe the front cover is Dragon-oriented, and the back cover is the Staff in caricature.

He hasn't been published as much lately, at least in magazines I've read, but in the 80's and early 90's he was the god of D&D artwork. He did probably a few dozen Dragon covers, along with a great deal of other artwork used in D&D.

And man I wish Snarfquest was still around. Next to OOTS it was my favorite comic seen in Dragon.

He did a butt load of Dragonlance art to.

Well, considering that WotC still has a say on what is published in Dragon, I am quite sure they wouldn't be happy with this cover...remember, Dragon magazine is not dying, it is just going online (or whatever their statement du jour is).

I like the idea of Bahamut and Tiamat going to town, fighting to the bloody, fiery end, desroying everything in their path. Would make a great gatefold also.

I can just see it, the two deity dragons fighting above the city of Greyhawk, wrecking ruin and mayhem below. Adventurers man the walls firing spells and magical arrows at them to no avail as they are lost in blood lust for one another.

In the background hundreds of chromatic and metallic dragons do battle...

Oh that would be awesome...

Do like CU Amiga Magazine did in 1998. Have a giant Monty Python foot stepping on the dragon from the first issue. Since it was the last issue, they could get away with doing more or less whatever they wanted.

Alternatively, I'd be amused to see a hilariously serious painting of someone throwing bags of holding into portable holes as his allies look on in horror, or Jozan and Tordek celebrating the death of Mialee, or Ashardalon retiring to take up knitting.

The final Dungeon should involve the iconics (blue-wearing paladin, stupid-looking tiefling, unlikely chaotic good drow bard), either being finished off by Dragotha, or making their own attempt to lever the ruby eye off that squat golden statue.

How about a horizon shot of a dragon's graveyard during dusk?

Thinking about this idea more, it could include a corpse or skeleton of each dragon that has appeared on the cover of Dragon Magazine.

If it never makes it to an actual cover, how about a wallpaper?

I like your thinking. It would be a great message to send to WOTC to show them what we as a gaming population think of them. Maybe the "guy in the pointy hat with stars and moons on it" could be holding a deck of Magic cards or something as we all know where WOTC's loyalties lie.

A dragon MUST be on the cover of the final Dragon Magazine.

I would LOVE for it to be a revisit of the Basic Red Box, that picture is what sucked me into D&D once upon a time (HERE).. However, I think that same warrior should be standing over that same dragon's corpse, with some other monster lurking in the darkness (ie Dragon is dead, but the adventure continues)
