Available Sources: SRD, Unearthed Arcana, Dragon 319.
Will consider the XPH, or other sources for alternative class features.
Soulknives start with Hidden Talent, not Wild Talent.
I have some serious revisions for classes / races that I’m not going to add at this time, so for now, just run with what is in the 3.5 Dark Sun in Dragon (though in places the city backgrounds are different), with the exception of bards (we’ll cover that if someone wants to play one, ‘cause fricking Asthasian bards DO NOT CAST). I also have an alignment modification for half-giants that we can talk about later.
Cosmetically, Sorcerers will be Defilers and Wizards, Preservers, though for this campaign it really only relates to NPC relations, both can rack up defiler points as you like and neither are penalized for normal casting.
Templars are available for play as spontaneous divine casters with one domain, and a different skill list.
We’ll be using single group initiative for combat, so feats that modify initiative may be of interest to you.
Each player has 3 action points to spend.
5th level equivalent PC’s.
Don’t bother picking out gear, everyone is butt naked. As far as animal companions, familiars, and weapon specific feats go, let me know what it is you want and I’ll see they become available before long.
If you don’t have the new materials, that’s perfectly acceptable, I can supply the stats and some flavor for character creation.
All characters will need at least a little background please (I can help with the specifics as you need). PC’s can come from anywhere, though the majority of the adventure will take place in Raam.
One post per day per player requirement. Can post more if you like, but at least once a day would be great, weekends tend to be a little more relaxed.
32 Point Buy on stats.
As for time zones, don't worry about it. I am Eastern here, but I work nights, so I tend to be awake from 10 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Something to keep in mind about Athas and Lawful Good for aspiring Paladins: When the air masks drop on an airline, you put the mask on yourself, then your kids (because if you pass out, well, you’re all screwed now, eh?).
Can we get feats from Complete Champion? I want to take one of the domain feats presented there.
Yes, but I'm obliged to believe the elemental powers would only grant the air/water/fire/earth devotions, or the inverse, that clerics would only devote themselves to these spheres of influence.

Perfect!

You are now. Get thee hence to the signup! ;)
Forgot to add: As long as you can be responsible, evil alignments are allowable for this run.
I was thinking of trying the Generic Warrior class from Unearthed Arcana section of the SRD. My thought was a light armored fighter type with some stealth, maybe a dagger wielder or unarmed combatant with some sneak attack capabilities, sorta Riddick-like. Whadda ya think.
+2 Str, +4 Con, Medium, 30 ft. base, half normal rest for natural healing, 3 psp's + offensive prescience (CHA), LA +1
Muls are hybrid dwarf / humans bred for gladiatorial combat or a life of hard labor. Generally, the human mothers do not survive.

what races are allowed?
Allowable races: Anything in the SRD (although the stats are beefed for Dark Sun), Half-Giant, Aarakocra, Mul, Pterran, and Thri-kreen. Anyone dead set on playing something special might sweet talk me into allowing a "new race" tower mutation.
There is a fairly wide deviation, but if you have a general idea what you might like to play or from where, I can help fill in the blanks easily enough.
Athasian elves are slick. If they had a philosophy they cared to debate, it would be, "Live in the now." They don't think about consequences, because consequences don't happen until later, and later may as well not exist. Elves tend to lead short, incredibly exciting lives, and few people are stupid enough to try to double cross an old elf.
Elves under the Dark Sun value one thing and one thing only: the tribe. Any other living creature, even other elves, are fair game when it comes to proving one's value to the tribe.
Slow to trust, the typical elf might test companions in subtle ways, eventually leading up to a dangerous or even life threatening proof of worth situation. Once trust is earned, an elf is a friend for life. Betrayed, that same elf can be an unpredictable and implacable foe.
Also, your sorcerer will gain Sleight of Hand as a class skill.
Stats here and confirmed for 32 pt.buy.
Name: Holdrus
The plan is for a 4th level Mul(+1LA) Warrior (generic class from unearthed arcana in the SRD)
Light armor (even though my proficiencies list medium also)
For weapon I was thinking either twf with daggers, kukris, or dogslicers(from Pathfinder,if allowed. They are short swords that do slashing instead of piercing)
str 14 (16 with adjustments)
dex 16
con 14 (18 with adjustments)
int 14
wisa 10
cha 10
with these feats right away:
improved initiative, point blank shot, sneak attack(2d6), 2 weapon fighting, and Uncanny dodge.
6th level I would take Evasion and Quick Draw
8th Weapon focus: dagger or kukris or some other small weapon.
9th Improved Crit: for the weapon.
10th would be either 2 weapon defense or farshot.
Cool. I'll get it worked up at some point soon. What does conceal thoughts do and how does it work? Is this a standard psionic power listed in the XPH?
Psionics are prevalent throughout the tablelands. Everyone (and many animals and plants) has at least some latent psionic ability.
Even the poisoned wells are guarded, and that daisy you picked? It's already sunk roots into your arm and begun feeding off you, even as it steers you back towards your buddies at camp.
FYI, I'm largely knowledgeable about the 'fluff' of Dark Sun but much of the crunch is lost on me (since the only time I have ever played Dark Sun was 2e many years ago). Should I consult Athas.org for the effects of defiling for Arcane casters? I imagine I'll be doing a lot of it (secretly, of course).
Oooh.. actually, would you be opposed to me doing a Beguiler (from the PHB2) instead of a sorcerer? The concept I have in mind would probably work better that way.

If it's anything like the 2nd edition Dark Sun, you could always roll them all up (er...point buy them all up) and keep them around for an occasion where previous characters have been murdered for water/eaten by gith/imprisoned by templars/horrificly maimed by giants.
Don’t bother picking out gear, everyone is butt naked.

Butt naked? That's kinda scary.
I'd like to get some confirmation regarding Raam. Will you be running it as written in the Dungeon update? Zuko is supposed to be a native of Raam with an axe to grind vs. the other native race (if you can call them that) of Raam.

Basically you’ll get the ability to use metamagic feats for free (even if you don’t know them), recover expended slots, or skip xp / material costs in exchange for assuming defiling points, which come with drawbacks, and can either be removed by simply internalizing the taint, or reflecting introspectively in a verdant area for extended periods.
Fatespinner wrote:

Initially, I thought about leaning away from introducing more mechanics for magic vs. psionic ways of doing things, but having a cadre of beguilers might suit Rajaat’s style, so I’m not completely opposed to the idea.
Fake Healer wrote:
Anyone know what these are and their stats?
They are sort of two grappling hooks at either end of a long rope.
Spoiler:
Exotic, adjacent or 10’ reach, 2d4x2, pierce
Fake Healer wrote:
What are PSP's and Offensive Prescience?
Sorry, just abbreviating psionic power points.
From the SRD, 1st level Psychic Warrior powers: Prescience, OffensiveA: Gain +2 insight bonus on your damage rolls.
Fake Healer wrote:
Do I take 5 one level and 6 the next, alternating through levels?
In general, if you wind up with a fraction, round down, even if the fraction is one-half or larger.
Fake Healer wrote:
I want to be able to make weapons out of wood and stone(obsidian), what Craft skill do I take?
While the different materials would represent very different skill sets in the real world, superficially, the craft (weaponsmith) skills in Dark Sun assume you are used to working with bone / stone / wood / obsidian in every day life.
Fake Healer wrote:
Muls start out knowing(common and/or dwarven I would assume)?
It’s somewhat uncommon for Muls to know anything except common, although the racial and elemental languages are all present and available. Rare or ancient languages (draconic, blue age Halfling, etc… are almost unheard of in everyday life and cost additional skill points).

Like I said, don’t be afraid to double up. There may be conflicting agendas afoot.

My thoughts. Mwbeeler, I order you to pick one.
I like the gamut, though I’m not sure if an alienist would snap into place or not (then again, do they anywhere). Just fyi, bards here are more like assassins, and use poison (but not spells).

I’m shocked that you could consider I’d ever treat my beautiful party in such a way. Why, they’re like children (moist, delicious children).

More or less (more on that as things progress). It will work a little smoother if he’s been away for Raam just a bit, though I could easily set you up with contacts inside the city from one of the factions.
I'm gonna roll HD, I don't wanna have to take below average for my whole career. Holdrus ends up with 37 total. Oh well, I am starting a couple below average anyway but a good roll should balance that out.
I'm slacking, but check it: I'm thinking a Maenad rogue/sorceror. Maybe just rogue if those d4's don't rudely jack me up.
Gott the bling bling thing on my skin,
And my mouth gets me outta the trouble I get in.
I should be ready to roll...some time this weekend.
Oh, and for that Dragon magazine-less, I look like a human with black hair and sparkly stuff on my skin.
Got most of his profile done. Check it out and let me know what you guys think. Just need to come up with some S.O.P.s in case I ain't around and someone needs to take my turn in combat, and come up with a decent background.
Thinking of something like this: Mum died during childbirth, Dad (a dwarf) raised him, training him to wrassle and fight from very young age, taught him some languages and skills that he had, then sold him to an arena team owner in Raam to pay off some debts. Holdrus has gained some fame within the arena circuit, as he hasn't been killed yet, in mostly team battles using sneaky attacks with obsidian blades while flanking an opponent. He earned his freedom in a small uprising of his gladiatorial team that left the Team owner and handlers dead. Trying now to figure out how to make his way in the world.
UNLESS!!! The DM is starting us naked and planning to have us be part of the arena circuit to start with, in which case the "earned his freedom" part hasn't happened.....yet.
I can I start with a pair of masterwork cold iron scimitars?
Where’s that silent strike guy when I need him?

Plenty o’ time. People will be reading countries for a while yet. ;)

I have no problems NPC’ing a character for a bit in game, but I deduct half xp for combat encounters, just fyi (though typically I lame out and allow ¾ to get by).
moving this line over here to the discussion thread where it belongs!
Thank you!
I actually have a request, I'm a bit brain dead form work at the moment, (That's my story, and I'm sticking to it!)
I'm seeing all of the other characters, and I'm looking for SUGGESTIONS for race/character/Dark Sun combos. As I am not a power-gamer, nor really get to play enough to know what races/classes (for multi class) really click well together.
I'm just looking for some DS flavor options to check out so I can build something out of the 'ordinary' (and fun!)
(Example- the 'Thri-Kreen Ranger" caught my eye. That's different. Stuff like that.)

Pretty much all character options are going to be out of the ordinary on Athas - 7ft tall elves, mantis men, cannibal halflings, monomaniacal dwarves, half-dwarf bald guys, and mutant humans.
