Minis Sculptor Dennis Mize Dies RSS

This weekend, we at Paizo recieved the news that freelance miniatures sculptor Dennis Mize has passed away.

As a very small part of his influential body of work spanning more than two and a half decades, Dennis Mize sculpted eighteen minis for our Compleat Encounters line: Death Shrine of the Ninja Cult, The Vault of the Whispering Tyrant, the Origins Award–nominated Throne of the Gorilla King, The Liberation of Prince Thorgrim, and the upcoming Terror in the Chamber of Pain and Grove of the Mad Druid sets.

At the time of his death, he was working on our upcoming line of miniatures for Monte Cook's Ptolus; we haven't yet determined the impact that this will have on those products.

While very few of us at Paizo interacted with Dennis Mize, I suspect that we probably all agree that he was one of the best sculptors in the business, and we're proud that we were able to present some of his last—and, in my opinion, some of his best—work.

This is so sad. I own literally hundreds of miniatures that he sculpted over the years starting back in the 1980's when he worked for Ral Partha. He was a phenomenal talent.

Aw, man. He's been one of my favorite sculptors for many years. Sorry to hear of his passing.

Maybe I'll just leave my "Slave Auction" set unpainted in tribute...
