Really, it's been long due. I think it will help old threads, like the poodle thread and the frog pond, return to their former glory. People will feel less cowed by all these confusing RPing plots and be able to pick out the 'funny' threads of 'shallow roleplaying'. We also won't feel guilty about burying real Off-topic threads with our own new roleplaying threads, which are becoming increasingly common. More people will be inclined to join us. And we can leave the other threads alone.
Really, there's only so much our poor OTD subforum can handle.
Wow, for once, I find myself in (partial) agreement with Kobold Cleaver. There have recently been a number of "role playing" threads popping up in the Off-Topic section, and they've disrupted the harmony.
Where we disagree is that I think the funny threads (for example the Poodle Thread, the Jack Thread, and the Untitled thread) should remain in Off Topics.

Huh? I thought that KC was proposing moving the RPG threads so that the funny ones would stop being overwhelmed by all of the RPing. He never suggested the funny threads should be moved.

I thought that might be the case, but with that deranged lizard you never know....
There's a difference between the RP threads and the "funny" threads?
Which ones are which?

There are a few threads that started out as jokes and hommages to long-term posters. The Angry Jack Thread started as an hommage to Callous Jack, the Raise of the poodle lords as an hommage to Courtfool, the frog pond to Hugo Solis ...etc. They were just fun. Then a game kind of mutated out of the funny aliases that incorporated free-form roleplaying. A long-term story arc formed with a non-rules emphasis and various threads were created to house aliases for people to play them. What KC is suggesting is a Freeform Roleplaying forum to give these threads a home. They are kinda clogging up the OTD forum at the present.

For the record:
Active Freeform Roleplaying threads currently in the OTD forum:
Eyrie of Celestial Harmony
The Palace of Skulls
The OTD OOC
The Bazaar of the Bizarre
The Oasis of Still Water
The Sanctum of the Sun
The Grove of Ancients
The Roleplaying Game
The Realms of Dream
The Place of the Winds
The Carnival of Shadows
That's more light RPing. It sees use occasionally, but would probably be used rarely.
Perhaps, though. Though we should probably see what its very own resident demon lord thinks.
Evil Monkey dwells there, so it could become an active RPG thread.
Well, do we include the Borg thread too? And The Frog Pond was kinda RPG heavy toward the end
I think that the creators should decide. But the Borg were definetly RP light. The Frog Pond was a bit RP heavy, but I think we should leave it. Make a separate thread if need be.

I think basically it would keep the RP threads segregated and apart from the OTD threads, which some of the older posters liked RP free. And I can respect that..
I don't exactly have strong feelings on the subject, but I think we've all been a bit sensitive on the subject of not stepping on people's toes lately. Mostly to keep from becoming an annoyance. In theory, as long as we stick to our own threads it's okay, but there's still some awkwardness floating around.

I guess I've been oblivious...(and with less time on my hands). I kind of liked that there were threads where the planar divisions were weak and they touched one another.

Well, they'd still be there, just in a different forum. Not like you couldn't bring Panama Jack over for a special guest star role if you wanted (or Jackin' Ape)

Yeah...but now The Place of the Winds will be stuck in a category..."X not Y."
I’m not involved in the free-form roleplay threads in off-topic, but I would also vote to move them to their own forum (although would not be too fussed if they weren’t). There are a lot of them, they clog up the off-topic forum and make the off-topic discussions hard to find amongst the roleplaying threads.
Having said that. I’m more interested in getting something done about the pbp section, so that my game threads don’t keep dropping into archives if they’re not posted on for three days…

Sign of a healthy community Moth. The amount of PbPs has tripled since I started posting here 18 months ago. Perhaps doubling the amount displayed before archivation (is that even a word?)?
I would like to reinstate my earlier post at a +1 bonus.
Me too.

I vote for a move to their own forums as well.

I think that's it at the moment
Don't forget At the Tavern of the Ranger and the Dryad and "The Tunnels." Those my newest threads.
We've moved the active freeform roleplaying threads into the play-by-post forum. We've also increased the number of threads in the play-by-post forum from 100 to 250, which should keep all currently active play-by-posts out of the archives (including the newly moved threads).
If you have trouble finding your play-by-post thread and don't currently use the "Focus" link, please give it a try.

Yes but what will all your avatars do now that they have no excuse to post in the PbP threads? Perhaps you should start the 'Island of Misfit Avatrs' thread for them to live on ....

Meh, there are plenty of other threads to post with those guys on. I'm sure I'll think of something. However, I'll take your advice under consideration with my legal counsel.

Ah but where to put it? Well I guess that's a question for the paladins to settle with a little barratry ....
