I'm having a weird problem with 3rd party downloads. Not with Paizo products, as I've downloaded several modules and the PFRPGs with no problem. But I just purchased 01 Blueprints: The Ruined Town and I can't get it to unzip. The last time I had this problem was when Paizo had their big pdf sale last year. Several files I downloaded then had the same issue.

The file downloads and shows up as a zip file of the proper size. WinZip says the file is corrupted. I tried downloading another zip program, PKZip, and same result.

I'm on a year old notebook, Windows Vista, everything updated and just can't figure out what's going on.

Anybody have any hints?

Actually, you're not in the wrong place. It looks like Gary may have confirmed a bug related to this. Try renaming the .zip file to .pdf, and see if it opens properly.

How do I do this?

My entire PDF library that I've gotten from Paizo (152 items so far) no longer works. This includes all PDF's from all the Pathfinder lines, KQ, DCC, Dungeon, Dragon, etc. It seems that they all mysteriously changed from Adobe Acrobat Documents to ZIP files.

I suspect that this problem may be directly related to the last PDF I downloaded... 1 On 1 Adventures: Unbound Adventures. When I first downloaded it, it wouldn't work. So I right-clicked on the file, selected "properties," and then changed "open with" to Adobe Acrobat. Now, it is still a ZIP file, but works just fine. In fact, it is the ONLY PDF that I've gotten from Paizo that still works properly.

I'm really, really worried that I won't get this resolved before the PF Campaign Setting is available.

Any ideas?

Zootcat,

From your description, it sounds like instead of renaming that one file from a ZIP to a PDF file, you've associated all ZIP files with Adobe Reader.

Firstly, open Windows Explorer and go into Tools > Folder Options, click the View tab and make sure the 'Hide extensions for known file types' box is clear.

Now you need to re-associate your ZIP files with an application that can handle them. You can download registry fixes for XP from this page (direct link to file) and for Vista from this page (direct link to file) that will restore Windows' standard behaviour. However, I'd recommend downloading 7-Zip, a powerful, open-source program that can handle ZIP files, as well as many other archive formats.

Once you've got your ZIP files working properly again, go to the file you originally had problems with, right-click on it and select rename, and delete '.zip' off the end of the name, replacing it with '.pdf'. All being well, it should now work properly.

Thank, Paz! You're a lifesaver! I downloaded 7-Zip, and that is able to open the files. However, changing a file from .zip to .pdf doesn't allow me open it with Adobe Acrobat. But with 7-Zip I can open the file whether it's .zip or .pdf. Questions: Is this the solution you anticipated, or should I be able to open the files with Adobe Acrobat? Did you mean that I should download registry fixes first, and then 7-Zip? Or did you mean one or the other? I only downloaded 7-Zip, so let me know if I need to also download the registry fixes. As you can no doubt tell, I am not computer savvy, so this help is very much appreciated!

This should only have been done to your most recent download's zip (i.e. The 1 on 1 Adventure file.) All of your other ZIP files should just be adjusted to OPEN with an compression program like WinZIP or WinRAR.

I'm just glad my most recent PDF purchases are working now.

Everything is back to normal now! Thanks, guys. You really pulled my butt out of the fire. I never would've figured it out on my own. Thanks for taking the time to help me. I appreciate it greatly!

I appreciate you taking the time to help him too! I love it when I check a thread only to find out that everybody's answering questions for each other.
