Thanks! I've updated the product description and image.

Does anyone have this and the 3.5 version? I'd like to know how they compare.

Just let me say that I'm as crazy as dog in a hubcap factory over this! I rearranged my spending money for next month to fit it in.

As much as my interest in gaming is declining I think this will help put the old spark back into me.

i have the 3.5 version - I even used some of it for an important NPC in my Savage Tides campaign.

Noble Wild is a great product and I would get this if you don't have the original. I need way more information about this version before I would consider buying again though.

I have the 3.5 version. I'm just hoping someone can tell me whether this version has enough changes to warrant an upgrade.

Well, I can tell you that we adjusted everything rules-wise to fit with Pathfinder. That means that nearly all of the species stats are ever-so-slightly different, in keeping with the comparable power levels of Pathfinder. Also, the species classes and prestige classes have been upgraded, becoming quite a bit more powerful, but totally in line with Pathfinder. Finally, in what is sure to be a controversial move, the way level adjustment was handled has been changed entirely. I'll let you take a look at the book to decide whether I went in the right direction or not.

Overall, I am very happy with how the new edition turned out (and not just because we got to use one of my brother's drawings for the cover). The Pathfinder is a natural outgrowth of 3.5, and makes a lot of common sense changes to the rules, as well as one or two pure genius ones; I was happy t work with it.

Hope you like it,

Lee Garvin

Lee, for the price I'm hoping this is a physical product. As much as I love the ability to copy & paste from a PDF, I love being able to hold a book all the much more.

The PDF is available from OneBookShop for US$16.99, so I'd assume this is the physical book.

Edit: Paizo usually specifies a product is a PDF if it is one too.

It is, indeed, a physical book. The .pdf is available now, with the hardcopy coming out sometime in late Feb or March, I think. This entry is for the pre-order of that hardcopy (also available at your FLGS - if not, raise a stink).

I, for one, also enjoy the tactile pleasure of a flipping through an honest paper-and-ink book, but there is also something to be said for the convenience of having your entire gaming library on a small netbook.

Will there be a PDF version of the Pathfinder version of the rules made available on paizo.com or on any other website?

It's currently available from OneBookShelf here for US$16.99.

The PDF is available right here at paizo.com.

Awesome book (I got it at Drivethru before the pdf appeared here but good no matter where it's from) but one problem is that several of the Natural Talent Tracks and bonus feats are still Track which is no longer a feat in Pathfinder.

One other question is: some animals have had their stats changed for the Bestiary (dogs as an example had their dex dropped to 13) so was there an intention to keep thes animals statistics consistent with 3.5? Just curious, still excellent though.

Just curious you planning to update some of your other OGL books as well? Like the familiar book for example.

Hm .... looks tempting. In fact, it's a kind of character I'd love to play, if I ever played .... assuming the rules fit smoothly into Pathfinder, of course. :)

you know that's the problem I had with tome of secrets. It's for Pathfinder, but they didnt follow all the the rules of Pathfinder. Huh?? Either it is or is not compatable. I noticed that the Pathfinder logo they make them carry says something to the effect that the product might not be so compatable. So why buy something that is not fully compatable. Certainly I still buy books that are 3.0 even though I now play 3.5/Pathfinder but thats because I get them dirt cheap (ebay, gaming store bin etc) why pay full price for something you're going have to house rule? Now I understand going beyound the rules like Monte Cook did in his books, but when a product doesnt follow the basic rules than what's the point?

Given that I was one of those that pre-ordered ToS, call it the curse of trying to release something simultaneously with the core rules to get an edge on other 3PP products, but probably not having enough time to fully absorb the rule changes and incorporate accordingly. It's not to say that it doesn't have its merits as there are definitely some useful content in there (with some tweaks), but I have to admit it was a bit rushed.

D'oh! Sorry, really thought we had caught all that stuff. I am preparing a brand new errata for the editor to bring it more in line with the Pathfinder rules. Unfortunately, most of the work on this edition was done before the Bestiary came out, so I only had the 3.5 SRD to work from. Now that the Bestiary is out, I guess I'd better adjust a few things.

The changes will be available as an updated download, meaning it would be free for those of you who have already bought it.

Until that time, replace the "Track" feat anywhere you find it with "Skill Focus (Survival)".

Thanks for the feedback,

Lee

P.S.
Am I the only one who would be interested in seeing folks post ideas/war stories/observations about The Noble Wild?

Spot on. I think most of them have done this. Not that I can blame them with us living in a Depression and all. I do like the little story of them eating the Necromancer though.

Most definitely up my alley. I assume that we would have to wait for a second printing (pdf not included), before the errata would be incorporated into the book?

No, I'm fairly certain the errata will be incorporated into the book (as well as some new art!). Ah, the glories of instant data transfer!

It's a wonderful time to be an animal.

I'm impressed with your ability make changes to the printed book based on feedback from the PDF, I realize of course that once the printed product is no longer preorder(or actually "off to the printer") that won't happen.

I'll add your book to my Wishlist, awaiting the arrival of some disposal wealth.

Oh yeah... preorder.. durr.. Completely missed that top-o-th'page notation. Do want book.

Don't suppose that any of us that have preordered the print book can get access to the .pdf to tide us over?

Got the updated version. It's good to see adjustments being made to bring the rules into line with PF. Just a couple things: First, with the tortoise, would it be correct to assume it does not have adjustments to it's ability scores due to size changes, because if it does have ability score changes due to size change its Dex is going to drop to 0 when it hits medium. Brown Bears have Skill Focus (Survival) listed twice in their Natural Talent Track line. Bats are still listed as doing only 1 hp of damage with their bite attacks while in the Bestiary they do 1d3 and Str mod either added or subtracted.

Any thoughts about doing an expansion book including new Noble animal species, subspecies, feats, Deeds, spells and support for further PF material? I'd be interested in seeing species characteristics for Noble: Giraffes, Hippopotami (-muses?), Kangaroos, Porcupines, Platypi (-puses?), Penguins, Ostriches, Sharks, Octopi, Squids, Stingrays, Seals, Wlaruses and larger non-predatory lizards (ex iguanas) possibly other creatures as well if they occur to me.

Or at least the base rules for making a creature so?

Several months ago, I wrote a compatible piece for The Noble Wild with stats for Noble Penguins, posting it on the DM Sketchpad section of The Grand OGL Wiki.

It's gone now (since the Sketchpad resets itself every month), and it was for 3.5, but maybe it'd be worth dusting off and reposting somewhere else in Pathfinder format.

Hey some questions occurred to me:
* Do some animals still have Level Adjustment (as in does the book use it at all, not whether they're more powerful than others)?
* Do the magical item substitutes (deeds, boons) still cost XP?

I was under the impression that it was due to have come out in print by now.. Or at least remember seeing an estimated date on the product description. Something gone awry?
I'd make a joke about "herding cats" but that'd be unfair to the other species. :p

As a hamster owner, I often wonder what it would be like to play a Noble Hamster Monk.

Also, is there a projected release date for this product yet?

Thought of one other possible Species for a successor book: Noble Large Cetacean (Belugas, Narwhals and Orcas as subspecies).

Another idea that would probably see some support is the Noble Prehistoric Wild: Dinosaurs, ancient mammals (like smilodon aka dire tiger) and other prehistoric beasts. Might require a bit of backstory work but it could be interesting.

That would be awesome! I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

Anybody?

I'd prefer to have the print version over a pdf because I can see getting alot of use out of this book....pretty please? :)

(Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Subscriber)

Okay...I see the print edition listed as available, but its cheaper than the pdf.

Methinks something is not right there.

Hm... why is the print edition cheaper than the pdf-verion? Mistake or intention?

Any word on when the print edition is going to be available?

I'm still interested to know what they did with Level Adjustment and stuff that costs XP.
