I haven't used a player shield in years, but this I may just end up using, as soon as I have a group and have had some time to play!

Bummer. I was really hoping for a landscaped screen. I love the 4e DM screen for exactly that reason - it's so much more stable than a vertical screen and easier to see over.

I've used both screens now (the 4E and the PRPG one) and I find them to be of equal stability.

I'm glad to see that they are using a thick hard stock cardboard for their screen. The D&D ones get trashed after a lot of use.

Although pretty expensive, considering the shipping.

That is part of what lead to me subscribing to more lines. My screen shipment has 4 items in it. So with the combined shipping being what it is, between the 20% discount and value add of the given PDF values, I got and additional $43 of stuff and savings, which more than covers the combined shipping which was less than $11 here in the US.

Then again, I get a lot of use out of my PDF's since I do a lot of gaming on line with SKYPE/Maptools. If I didn't get such use out of the PDF's I still wouldn't subscribe, I would buy via Amazon.

I have a couple of questions if I order the screen direct from Paizo.

1. If I order now, how long will it be before it ships? I assume everyone that pre ordered and subs would go out before me.

2. Also, I would not want this to get bent or folded while in route, anyway that I know that won't happen?

1. I was one of the later pre-orders to ship (judging from others, and knowing I had a complicated order), and it already has, so I think it would ship as soon as your order was ready. (Holiday close of course)

2. It's pretty tough, I don't think it would bend or fold. Best way to be sure though would be to order another book with it so it gets a box instead.

The Customer Service Forum would probably be a better place for questions like this.

1. It would normally ship within a couple of days... although orders placed today probably will not go out until next week, as we're closed Thursday and Friday for Thanksgiving.

2. It's almost a half-inch thick, so folding it would be a challenge for even the most dedicated of postal workers.

My screen arrived today. It was in the same sized box the Bestiary shipped in, so between packing material and the sturdiness of the stock, the only way I could see this thing getting bent or damaged is if it accidentally had a mail truck back over it.

Great product. It covers a lot of area, has a great deal of info ready at a glance, and of course sports fine Reynolds art. It will be good to have a nigh-indestructible Shield of Fear and Ignorance separating me from my players.

The day after I asked that question, I got an email notifying me that it was shipping. It arrived today. It tough, solid, and has plenty of easy to read tables on it. The cover paper for it, is durable as well. Excellent job Paizo.

For those of you that haven't had the chance to download my Actions In Combat sheet, it is noe being hosted at the Pathfinder Database. The previous link no longer works as the file has been moved to a different directory.

I have one suggestion for this. Shade every other line on the tables, or provide thin lines on them, so tired eyes can find the connecting items more easily. Otherwise, the action sheet is an excellent reference.

(RPG Superstar 2009, Contributor)

Mine just arrived last night and I felt compelled to track down the product page to offer some commentary on it.

This is easily the best-looking, most durable, most useful GM screen I have ever owned. I really appreciate the rogue's gallery of art on the exterior, as the iconics serve as inspiration for any players looking towards the GM. And I love the page number references for each table on the interior so we can quickly look something up in the core rulebook, if necessary. But given all the information you guys included (particularly on the skills section), I don't foresee having to do that very often.

Job very well done, guys. Paizo keeps living up to a standard of quality that paces the entire industry. I'm proud to be carrying this thing to every game. And I plan on showing it off as the way a GM screen should be done.

My heart-felt two-cents,

I thought they were joking about that screen stopping a bullet....dang. Nice screen. I may have to go back to using one for a bit just cause it's pretty.

(Pathfinder Adventure Path, Companion Subscriber)

Just got this last wednesday, used it for the first time in last night's game. Kudos to Paizo for making it totally useful. Looks like they made perfect choices with the charts/tables they put on it. Well done.

*** The only table I may not use much is the treasure values per encounter.

(Pathfinder Adventure Path Charter Subscriber; Roleplaying Game Subscriber)

Just got my screen and wanted to comment on the product page (something I don't often do). This is one really nice piece of work. It's beautiful and beautifully made. I have the thin cardboard D&D3.5 screen (the one that came with a D20M screen) and liked its form-factor but not its durability or its contents. I *really* like the SW Saga screen, which is hard-cover like the Paizo screen, but don't find its contents very useful. This one has it all. Looks, durability, and contents. All at a great price. Must have, IMHO.
M

PS. Don't get me started on the GURPS screen. Well, the contents are great but the art? Gawd!

I want to add a review, but I'm not seeing a link for it. What am I doing wrong?

It is a little bit confusing (IMHO), but to write a review you have to go to the respective thread in the store:

DM Screen shows you all review and lets you write your own one.

Here is the direct link.

From what I can tell holding this gorgeous edifice of gaming in my hands; yah. They look to be all to scale, and standing on the same level. Beautiful artwork; I'm jealous that my players get to look at it while all I get are tables, hehe.

Yeah...but the tables are pretty too!

I think this is the most sturdy screen I have ever seen. Folded up it would make decent armor... against thrown dice.

you mean 'against small caliber bullets' right?

I've already threatened a player with a DM Screen induced concussion.

Received mine yesterday - total awesomeness! Best screen I have ever laid my hands on.

Any word on when this will be available on places like Amazon and Buy.com?

The retail release date is December 9. Whether or not those particular outlets will be prepared, I cannot say.

I have to agree with several posts above about the quality of this screen:
I was expecting something along the lines of TSR's old cardboard screens.
What I received was a hardbound Super Quality Bound Book Style Screen.

I expected the information to be well laid out and the artwork had been previewed, so that did not surprise me (quality).

Definitely a good buy for any Pathfinder GM out there, the PDF that I received with the subscription is nice for doing some handouts for players, but do not do the actual physical product justice.

Andoran (Pathfinder Adventure Path Subscriber)

I ordered and it shipped yesterday. I can't want to get it.

I would feel safe with it unfolded on the table in front of me, even if the dice came at me by the handful. Like, for example, if I were to throw this at my players.

Just adding my approval of the product - best sturdy DM screen I've ever come across. I wasn't expecting that sort of durability. This along with the core book will make great improvised weapons in my arsenal. ;-)

Is the cardstock suitable for Dryerase pens? My copy arrived the other day and it's simply the best Screen I've ever seen.

I got my screen today. I really like the quaility and most of the info on it. But IMO I think it would have been better if the screen did not have the XP rewards and treasure value per encounter tables on it. It should have had the actions in combat instead. Those two tables that are on it IMO are not really used during the game, just for game prep.

/disagree

I run a sandbox game. The party is free to go anywhere and open any door they want to; I don't know ahead of time exactly what they're going to get into. This means I have to improvise the encounters at the game table, most times, and the XP table becomes one of the most-consulted tables.

I downloaded my PFD versions this morning, but the zip file for the single page per panel is empty. Downloaded several times and no files. 3 other downloads are file.

Anyone else had this problem?

Nope its already available.

When I unziped the file I ended up with 6 files:
GMs Screen Pg1 925kb
GMs Screen Pg2 926kb
GMs Screen Pg3 926kb
GMs Screen Pg4 926kb
GMs Screen Wrap 3.1 Mb
Artwork 143kb

I checked all the files on all my machines and they displayed ok.

This is really a great product. Attractive, heavy duty, very useful. Definite thumbs up!

Picked this up on Friday @ the strat in NYC, along with the big campaign setting book.

This GM screen is truly a first-rate product. The print quality is outstanding, the colours are very lush, and the charts are legible.

While not as crazy-go-nuts over-the-top as the Fat Dragon screen, this one is by far the nicest conventional GM screen I've come across.

The default unzipping utility in some version of Windows has issues with some files. Using an alternate unzipping utility should solve the problem.

The XP and Treasure tables take up a half panel. Actions in Combat would take up a full panel. So we'd have had to take out a lot more than those two tables to fit it in...

(And, back when we used XP, my GM would have used the XP table every session.)

ARGH!

(and the PDF isnt up yet)

Awesome product! What I like most about it is that the way it is folded makes it possible to use it as a reference booklet in case you don't use a GM screen. I myself GM from a laptop, so a GM screen is of limited use for me, but this way this product is still very useful to me.

Got my screen last week and used it in our game session Sunday afternoon. Just wanted to chime in and send out a kudos to the design team. It's a VERY sturdy, well-designed DM's screen. I rank it as the best one I've ever used. Thanks Paizo, for raising the bar once again.

Here's a cool compliment quote from one of my players: "I don't even own any Pathfinder rpg books and I want to own one of those [screens]!"

I have never had any problems unzipping Paizo files until this one. I have downloaded several other utilities that will not open it either. Do you have a specific one you recommend?

Is there any way Paizo could post an unzipped version of this file into my downloads?
